I got the sound package 2 that comes with I think a 250W amp but when I turn the volume past 25 I loss bass. I look all over to see if there is a external amp to turn up but can not find it, is there away that I can fix this problem?

The amp is 276 watts and it located under your steering wheel. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have bass gains or does it? You shouldn't lose bass when turning the volume up. Maybe your midbass drivers cut out when you turn the volume too loud.

Its a self-preserving system. If the bass is turned up too high, when you crank the volume over 29, the amp cuts back power.

yeah I hated that so I just took it out and found out its only one 6 1/2" speaker being used for bass!!!!!!!that sucked

There's a TSB for the amp pulling bass on high volume or loud bass. Next time you're at the dealer tell them about it and they'll reflash the amp with a new program. Fixed the problem for me.

There's actually an 8" Open-Air subwoofer in the rear deck doing bass. IIRC its <90Hz.

are you guys talking about the sub or the midbass drivers in the front door? I think the OP was talking about the midbass drivers cutting off. I have an SXT which doesn't come with a sub and I've cranked the stereo up to 25 with no problem and the bass stayed up.

The TSB covers all the speakers. Before the flash, all the bass would disappear - from the doors and sub. After the flash, everything works like I would expect it to.

Do you know the TSB number? And is this for the SRT-8 with the Kicker and the trunk subwoofer?

The document is attached. It's TSB # 08-056-05, and it looks like it applies to all Charger's with a Boston Acoustics system - so no.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to Charger vehicles equipped with a Boston Acoustics
audio system (sales code RC2 or RC6).

Just for reference (so you don't have to D/L the full TSB):
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The rear speakers cut out at high volume or bass and/or the Instrument Panel (I/P)
speakers pop or cutout at high volume or bass.

Thanks for the information, but Alas I have the Kicker....I appreciate the quick response, though.

where is that sub located i looked in the trunk and could not find it exposed anywhere..

i have a 2007 "road and track" with nav. , my stereo kicks ass , so do i need to flash it..
i noticed that my door speakers are subs, don't know what size they are...

it says my amp is 322 watts...

The sub isn't exposed. If you look under the rear package shelf you'll see a bunch of formed foam protecting the speakers & sub. It pulls out with 6 quick snaps. There are two 6x9 speakers (left and right) and near the passenger side (right) is the 8" sub hanging from the deck like a regular speaker. It's off-center to the passenger side.

The TSB only applied to the '06 model year last time I checked, so I don't believe you need to have it flashed.

The door speakers aren't subs, they're just driven with low frequencies from the amp. They're regular 6x9 speakers as well.

While we're on the subject of speakers, I have a rattle in what seem the right front speaker, pretty sure it's the one in the door. I mentioned it at the dealer and they replaced it, but it's still rattling. I was thinking of just upgrading the door and dash speakers. They have two different sets listed on moparsupercenter.com, one is cheaper then the other but it doesn't list the differences. Any ideas?

It'll probably be better if you start a new thread because that kind of problem could be a large number of things.

That said, is it actually the speaker that's rattling or is something rattling when you turn up the volume? Another important thing to know is does it rattle when the radio is off?

EDIT: Just went through the New Posts and found this potentially relevant thread: http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34881

There is historically a lot of confusion about the subwoofers on these cars. Try a search on "subwoofer" and see what you find.

There is an option for "six speakers with subwoofer" like I have, the "subwoofer" are intregrated within the front door speakers. The seven speaker system has the seperate subwoofer in the rear deck.

That being said, generally the consensus is the bass and mids to not need to be turned up very high at all on the factory radio - I run my bass from -1 to +3, and mids from 0 to 1. Treble usually all the way up, to a low of about 7.

Although there is some bass, and it does get to a very low frequency, this is not the ideal system to crank up the bass and be one of those guys that can be heard coming from 1/2 a mile away, and rattle everyone elses windows in traffic.

I know it's the speaker, as the rattle is only there while listening to music, and especially at higher volumes. Radio off... nothing. Thanks for the link to the other thread, but it seems to be different then what I'm experiencing. Thanks again though.

I heard somewhere that the amp has dynamic distortion control (or something like that) what it does is limit the amount of distortion by computer controlling power available to different frequencies. So when the lower frequencies reach max the computer will not allow more volume for base, while allowing the other frequencies (that require less power) to increase there power.

I don't know if that is exactly what the article or post said but it's close.

Well, I can't tell you for sure what or why it is. . . but I suspect that the plastic bracketry that holds the speaker to the door is loose. It comes from the factory with rubber seals to isolate it from the door, if someone forgot to put that on or didn't tighten the screws right - that could do it I assume. Don't know whether that helps or not, but thats the first place I'd look.

yes you can reflash the kicker system also since it uses the 322 watt amp and all 3 amp's [276-322-368] can be flashed. so if you have the kicker system it can be flashed-only the rt guys complain about the bass pull back because they hear it more with the sub in the rear deck and the kicker sub in the trunk doesnt pull back bass but the rear deck 6x9's do/you just dont hear it due to the trunk sub but if you really listen for it you will notice it. just tell the dealer that you have the problem and they can do the reflash.

IMHO, they should do something like that. As the amp reaches maximum output and begins to distort, THAT is when it can do a lot of damage to speakers. Most speaker designs can withstand quite a bit more than their rated power as long as it is CLEAN power.

I've got the BA system with the 6CD changer and it seems pretty darned loud to me. But then again, I'm an old phart and want my ears to last until next week so I've gotta be careful. :)

Went by the dealer today, and they are ordering a new speaker for the dash on the passenger's side. Should be in tomorrow, so we'll se if that's the problem or not.

LOL ha ha they did the same exact thing for me expect they had the speaker there. All they did was make my dashboard not flush..anyhoe while the speaker was sounding better. My actual problem is after the car sits for a while, after start up sometimes the right side speakers sound distorted like the volume is past 38 but say at 98...so sometime i have to drive with the volume very low for a couple of miles then it goes back like its suppose to.

I had a similar problem (w/ the BA 276w 6 spkr sys) but when I took the Charger and TSB to the Dealership they said the TSB didn't apply to my amp. Then I said maybe it's a type of limiter to protect the speakers (like others in this post have mentioned) and they basically didn't know so they just ordered me a new amp.
Not exactly the solution I was looking for since I don't think it will change anything, oh well. If I had the moola I would have them upgrade the amp and put the rear deck sub in. I guess I can't complain though they're pretty good guys at the dealership.

As far as the distortion, if you have an upgraded sound system, there is a TSB to correct that. They put the new speaker in, and then performed the TSB on my amp, but the rattle is till there. There is something loose in the door, I don't know if it's a wire or what, but it makes the system sound horrible. I'm going to try a different dealer and see if they can figure it out. It's starting to piss me off, scratch that, I'm pissed off now.

Anybody have a pic of this amp ? I am replacing my dash (Blown airbag) and my old dash had 2 black plugs that plugged into it. The new dash only has one that plugs into the bottom, and it doesnt have the 2 wire that plugs into the top. The black plugs. I think its the amp I see, but my buddy says its the computer ? Its under the steering wheel and to the left. Any help would be highly helpfull, and appreciated. I tried looking for some under dash pics or schematics, nothing yet though.

Do you know what the stock amp looks like ? Is it under the dash , in the steering wheel area ? There are 2 black plugs on it, one goes in the bottom, and one in the top, my new dash I am installing only comes with the one on the bottom, and not the 2 wire plug on the top. My buddy says its the computer, but it looks like the amp to me.

It sounds like you've found it. The service manual says the amp is mounted to the left of the steering column. It is accessible after removing the silencer panel at the bottom of the dash. You may need to use the wiring from you old panel since you new one only has one connector.

Thanks for the help. I figured thats what i will have to do, but I didnt want to hear it,lol. Being that I have boths dashes out already, it shouldnt be to much work switching both harnesses. Im just wondering what that top black plug is for ? It only has 2 wires going to it.
