My car didn't come with the Navigation system. I want to put one in and would really like to have the factory unit so everything looks right. The Dodge dealer here told me it would be $2000 installed. I think this is crazy!
Has anyone added factory Navigation to their car?
If so, where did you buy it?
How much did it cost?
Where can I find a new REC model for a decent price?
Could I install it myself?
And finally, will I still get my one year free Sirius Satellite subscription?
Wow, lots of questions...
Thanks...

Have you considered and aftermarket head unit? You would need the NAV bezel ($75.00), a double din TV / DVD ($700.00+) head unit (kenwood, alpine, etc...), and a navagation unit $($400+). You would also need a few wiring adapters depending on if you have sterring wheel controls, etc... All in all not a bad option... still less expensive than the dealer route...

I've seen used factory units here, and more so on Ebay selling for around $700-$900. Buy a Nav. bezel, pop out your stock unit, pop in the Nav unit, connect the antenna, mount it....Ready to roll for less than a grand!
I was going to go that route, but my father in law hooked me up with a sweet little Garmin Nav. unit for Xmas. I mounted it right under my rearview mirror...totally sweet

I have considered aftermarket units, but I just like the factory installed look better. Also, does anyone know if the nav system uses the same antenna as the sirius antenna that's on the roof of my car already? Or will I have to mount another antenna all together just for the nav system?
Thanks,

There is a second antenna for the NAV that mounts under the dash pad.
I have a factory NAV unit in perfect working order with the updated joystick, new antenna and the AD program disk that I am willing to sell for $775 shipped anywhere in the 48 states if you are interested.
VERY easy install.. All you would need is the NAV bezel, a 8mm wrench plus a philips head screwdriver. At most the swap is a 20 minute job.

The factory NAV is def. the way to go. I have it installed in my charger after I bought mine. I think I paid around 1500 for everything after it was installed as well. but it also helps that my dad is the business manager for a dodge dealer :) but I wouldn't get any other one. Its not like you can watch TV and drive down the road anyways. So stick with stock

I have the factory NAV unit and it is SUPER.....Just load the address where you want to go, sit back, and listen to the turns to take.

What are some of the benefits of the hacked disk other than being able to input a destination while driving?

I'm getting SRT option group III installed in my 06' CHSRT8 in a couple of weeks. Getting it done at the dealership as the car is under a 6yr/60k mile warranty. Yeah it's expensive but I want it and I want it done right. That way if anything goes wrong, they have to fix it. The wiring is already there so it's basically changing out the bezel and the mirror with the auto-dim mirror with U-Connect.

I would buy a DVD player with a retractable screen (apprx$800.00) and a navigational kit (apprx$400.00), and some wiring. I wouldn't even bother with buying a new bezel, with I retractable screen head unit all you need is a new radio dash kit. But if you like the stock look, then definitely get the in-dash screen dvd player.
But definitely use the dealer as a last resort. They charger for labor, check-in, and every friggin thing they can charge and at a higher price. They said 2k, but when you actually do it, it'll be 2,200 after labor and taxes, lol.
Also, don't forget that aftermarket sound is always better than factory.

Always? I think you're stretching it there...
A good quality aftermarket is better than stock. However I wouldn't want to lose the functionality of the steering wheel controls... If you have them.

Well, we're talking about good quality stuff, of course there are low quality stuff out there. With $800-900 he can get a good quality dvd/cd player with a screen; just gotta shop around.

I am fine with my sound. The Boston Acoustic speakers sound just fine to me. The factory head unit with NAV has the 6-disk CD changer. Oh and I already got a quote from the dealership. I will be paying $2500 to be exact. I have no problem paying it. That is what Option group III costs anyway for the SRT8. I love the NAV unit. I can control everything from the steering wheel and I don't have to touch the screen and put nasty looking finger prints all over it. I have option group III in my silver one and love it.

Yeah, if I had the steering controls also, i would think twice about putting aftermarket stuff. 2500 is a lot of d@m money though. But hey, if you gots the money, do it!
