Holy crap what the hell is that thing?

It looks like Shub Niggurath from Quake 1. (a14umbra ... you know what I'm talking about?)

"...there are Orcs, very many of them,' he said.'And some are large and evil: Black Uruks of Mordor. For the moment they are hanging back, but there is soomething else there. A great cave-troll, I think, or more than one. There is no hope of escape that way..."

That is the cave troll that entered Balin's tomb in Moria while the fellowship of the ring was inside.

Yepper, he's the cave troll that shafted Frodo w/a lance. Hooray for his little mithril shirt. Where's our anti-troll Fellowship?

And I do remember the Quake 1 monster you're reffering to. Are you reffering to Chton?

Not to get off topic, but have you guys seen the preview of Doom with The Rock in it??

I don't care if it blows, I plan to see that baby.

Yes, and I'll watch it. I still have Doom on floppies, and my Doom2 CD. I still hum the first level song to Doom2 every now and then.

This will take you back some years, remember the orginial Caste Wolfenstien. I had that back in the mid 80s. It was really good for the times.

Crap..got to go to work.....back in 8-12 hours...

Been away for 2 days (without my Charger!).

Shub Niggurath sounds like Cthulu.

Wait! I googled it. It IS Cthulu. Gotta pull out the Dieties and Demigods book from D&D.

Oh ye newbies of Lovecraftopia. :)

I was wrong, it was Cthos (thanks for the reminder), which was a made up name based on Cthulu, who was one the Great Ones from H.P. Lovecrafts novels in the early 20th century. D&D, if it uses the same names, got them from Lovecraft. Shub Niggurath is another one of the Elder Gods, and the name was tossed around for Quake1, but not used (for whatever reason).

Now, on to current matters: For you Doom guys, have you played Doom 3? Yes, you need a huge pc to run it, but MY GOD. It's just terrifying. Also, Quake 4 went gold. It comes out next tuesday. :)

Umbra, how you are with scifi, I am with horror. Just the dark side of the nerd spectrum, I guess. :)

The Dieties and Demigods book has an entire chapter on Lovecrafts Cthulu mythos. Basically they took his characters and created stats for them to be used in D&D. It's pretty cool.

Ssssshhhhh....haster...

That's pretty sweet, indeed.

Man, this sucks. I've been so caught up in this wedding that I haven't gotten into the full swing of October. Gotta break out the Lovecraft compilation tomorrow. :)

October and you breakout Cthulu. I breakout War of the Worlds. figures.

You like Clive Barker? I like his use of monsters (pumpkinhead, pinface, etc.)

Only read one of this books, a loooong time ago. It was great. Very weird, very fantastical, I think. And War of the Worlds, hmm...didn't catch that new movie, heard it was great. Probably read that book when I was like 10; hardly remember it.

I'm out for the night.

LONG LIVE THE OFF-TOPIC REALM

Think you're talking about the Shambler http://bullet1.chat.ru/images/shamb.jpg Looks like it but 'tis the Cave Troll mentioned above. Someone knows their tales.

I played GLQuake <again> when XP came out and jacked up rez. Never looked better. Also have it for the PocketPC but not the same on that little screen. And movies are worse [how can apple rip people off like that when I can watch pr0n for free on my PPC?] =)

Saw your Quake IV gold post...I stopped after Quake 3 Test (network beta). The Unreal franchise stole my money then. Shure do miss playing games.
