Is the MOPAR crankshaft the same crank in the LX 5.7?

No, it is a FORGED crankshaft.
Much stronger, same stroke and journal sizes.

How does this piece help with performance.

It is stronger, therefore can endure higher shots of NOS, can handle higher RPM's. It does nothing to the performance where you would notice this in the seat of the pants, but it is a major improvement over factory for longevity.

hmm and my friend mentioned something about a 3000 dollar install. he drives a mustang so im sure he was exagerating.
