So I have the 4 speaker system, and want to add the 2 dash speakers. I know they are 3.5s, I have looked on Crutchfield and they have none they say will fit. However locally, I have one shop that says they will put in some Infinity Reference for about $120 installed and another shop that will do some Boston Acoustics installed for about the same.

I called Crutchfield and they said the problem was the height of the tweeter and that of the 2 the Boston Acoustics were not as tall and most likely to fit.

I've done stereo in the past and don't see a problem installing these myself to save soem money. Has anyone put either of these in, and if so did you have to modify anything in anyway?

The infinitiys are these

Top-mount Depth (Inches) 1 9/16

Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) 1 5/8

Cutout Diameter or Length (inches) 3 7/16

and the Boston Acoustics are these

Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) 2

I installed Infinitys in my dash. The only fit issue is some ribs on the underside of the speaker grille. A little quality time with a sanding drum will fix that. There is a huge amount of clearance under the dash speaker locations, so if you go to the effort of undermounting them, there will be no fit problem.

The stock dash speakers have a black cloth cover glued to the top. Without that, direct sunlight makes the speakers reflect off the inside of the windshield, which is a bit distracting. If I ever have a reason to pull the dash top again, I'll glue the black cloth to the under side of the grilles.

They'll fit, but when you get up in there you'll see it may be a PITA to mount them as the opening is weird.

I actually put Morel Integra Ovation XO 4" coax (MSRP of about $5-600)...but I had to do a decent amount of cutting to get them to drop in. Then screwing them in was all sorts of fun.

Look at your window sticker. It'll tell you what sound group you have and if you have an amp. If so, what watts it is as well.

Maybe take the car to the dealer with the vin? I know you could go looking for it, but I don't know where it is. There's a box under the driver's seat...but thinking that may be the controls for the seat itself? Anyone know and can help this guy?

if you dont have dash speakers in the dash from the factory than you have the base system and there is no factory amp-it use's the amp thats in the radio. and one thing you all need to know is that the base system is a 4ohm out put set up-NOW if you put dash speakers in and run them off the front door wiring what happens is a 4ohm dash speaker in line with a 4 ohm door speaker = a 2ohm load and over time depending on how loud and hard you play the radio you will end up burning out the out put's on the radio-same thing goed if you change over to a after market radio-all radios stock or arfter market can only handle a 4 ohm load per channel-the fACTORY AMPS run at a 2ohm load-and 95% of after market amps can run at a 2ohm load or even a 1ohm load

the right way to wire dash speakers up is like this-door speaker pos wire to the door speaker/door speaker neg wire goes to the pos wire post on the dash speaker/and dash speaker neg post wire goes back to the door speaker neg wire and that will give you a safe 8 ohm load so as not to burn up the radio

The tweeter in my 3.5 dash speakers sticks up just a little too high to get the grill on completely flush. So I took a dremel and shaved off the high spots a little on the underside of the grill until it mounted flush again.

Great job on the thread hijack...
