Well first off I just can't afford the $5k option of the Hemi, even though I reaalllly want it. ANyways I like how the Charger looks and I think it lowered on some nice wheels would look awsome.
Anyways I was on the Dodge site on "Build your own" and wondering if someone had a pic of a SE model Charger vs. SXT model. (WHta pkg includes leather?) What are some options you think are worth the $$? (I plan to get my own wheels) I am still wondering whats the outside difference beside badges? Also what are you guys paying for your Chargers? I know they are new and no incentives, just wondering if your getting any off sticker?
Ohh, what is the 3.5L rated 0-60? I keep hearing it pulls pretty good for a V6.
Thanks, Zach

I would recommend the SXT if you can't get the R/T. I ran into the same conflict. But I had to have a charger. The SXT has the Boston speakers and 6-disc CD changer, free Sirius satallite radio for a year. 60/40 split seats. Leather wrapped steering wheel. I can keep going on. Its still really fast and fun. You can drift it, not really big drift but enough to scare you. And every man will envy you. I've only been beaten by an BMW M3, I own the Mustangs so far.

Thanks, well I hope its still quick for my DD. I am gonna try to test drive one tommorow if I get the time.
What Mustnags did you race? V6s? I don't see it being as fast as a GT with 260 hp and being lighter. I just sold my '99 Supercharged GT, I miss it sometimes.

I have raced two Mustangs. One was an 98-99 GT with some nice aftermarket hood scoop and 3" pipes. He was fast but not fast enough. The other was a new style mustang i don't think it was a GT. Last night on my way home I took on a 2000 style Mustang, They could just be horrible drivers.

Does anybody really how the 3.5 L V6 runs from 0-60???
Having the SE or the SXT models, I dont think its embarassing to lose to an M3...I believe M3s run at about 330 HP...very fast, its equivalent to an Audi S4..which runs 0-60 in 5 seconds....
so if I ever run across an M3 BMW or an Audi S4 (those types of cars) I'm not even going to waste time racing them..theres no point.
I do agree that the base Charger can take the new style Mustang (not the GT). dont have much experience racing w/ my Charger...just waiting to put a few more miles on the engine and warm it up...but I cant wait to start.

Well you can try, but sorry the SXT doesn't have a chance. They are so light for there HP the cars carry. unless the driver doesn't know what he's doing. Or doesn't know how to quick shift. But there are not many cars on the road that can beat us.

I love the last sentence..I agree! But you know, just gotta know when to be realistic...and racing cars like the M3..S4...in the 45-50K range??? no chance....oh but you were talking about the Mustang..i dunno...I'll see...once I test one out.
however, when the SRT-8 Charger comes around
1.) It will be like a dagger to my heart when I start seeing them on the street...JELEOUSY
2.) It will keep up with the M3s...:)

You can take on Mustangs and ricers, don't be afraid. You will be suprised how fast your car is. if you max out 1st gear you should get over 50mph. This thing goes.

The Charger is a pig period. 250 hp isn't gonna be enough to beat any V8 car out there and alot of V6s.
The 425 hp Charger would be a good race for a late model M3, or 400 hp M5. Then again we could comapre it to my 1999 Mustang GT that I sold for $11,000 and it had 450hp.

just remember that with the V6, you have to put premium in it... an extra 20C's a gallon.... AND the HEMI and the High output have around the same gas mileage.... or are supose to... just somthing to think about!!

Just a point of clarification......
Dodge reccomends 89 octane in the V6 for optimal performance. They don't say that 87 is unacceptable. Up North here 91 or 93 octane is considered "premium" fuel, 87 is regular unleaded and 89 is considered mid grade or "super" unleaded.
Putting true premium grade (91 or 93) gas in isn't required and, in fact, the manufacturer does not reccomend it!

good clarification!.. just change my post from 20 to 10 cents difference...
but the point i am trying to make is that the extra 5 grand... if SOMEHOW you can pony it up, or do somthing to get it in the financing, do it cause you will have a hemi, and it'll cost less every time you fill up :)

External differences: SE grille body color, SXT chrome; SE hubcaps, SXT alloy wheels; SE no fogs, SXT fog lights
Internal differences: SE 4 crummy speakers, SXT 6 Boston Acoustics speakers; SE non-folding rear seat, SXT 60/40 split folding
SXT also adds power driver's seat, illuminated visor mirrors (versus unlit), leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob
SE is by far a better value, but you can't add options to it. Leather is available as an option on the SXT. Both have standard cloth. I would never buy an SXT, the extra equipment does not come close to justifying the cost.
As for performance, expect mid-7s 0-60 and high 15s in the 1/4 mile. That will run with a Mustang...as long as it's a V6.

Yea I run 89 octane in my SE.
I bought the SE because even the most SE (the complete base model) has a lot of options. Traction control, ABS, breaking assist, etc. The V6 is suprisingly quick too. It'll run at 80 mph nice and smooth all day. It has plenty of torque to get you around town without reving the hell out of the engine. Basically I didn't want to pay the extra money for the SXT because some of that stuff I wasn't worried about. You can buy RT wheels on ebay pretty cheap or just add your own wheels. The only thing I was worried about was the HEMI but I coulnd't afford the price tag but in no way is the V6 under powered for this car.

Well I think I'll go SE, I can find fogs and may not even want a chrome grill.

If I was gonna pay $25k-$28k for the car I'd get something else. Thinking SE cause it will run (me) under $20k.

If you can option it the way you want, the SE is a fine choice. The chrome grill works OK on my bright silver metallic SXT but I think the color matched grille would look better on most other (especially dark) colors.

Yeah I am either going black or silver with black wheels.

Yeah that 3.5 V6 is a good running engine been in the prowler and the 300m and the intrepid...it hauls for what it is...i wonder how it is in a rear wheel drive car the prowler was a fun car to drive but ALOT lighter so hard to compare...one way or another get the charger over anything else...there is no v6 out there for the money that gives you the options...its an awesome car
