Are these about the same performance wise or is the 87 tune less hp?

Hold the phone - I'm not a huge fan of SC on the Charger, but I doubt that the 87 SC tune produces less HP than no tune (stock).

Well ya its going to help alittle but not as much as going with the higher octane tune.

You will notice a huge dif in the custum tranny w/87 though, stock no tranny upgrades. You'll also get better gas milage with the 91 tune verse 87!

Why would anyone use the 87 tune? I still don't understand why the SC people did not opt for an 89 tune.

Well, when 91 was 3.75 and 87 was 3.40 months back, you could save a little money. As far as hp, at our dyno day we had someone dyno stock, and the with the 87 tune. Same peak numbers, but on average 10-15 hp above throughout the powerband.

There isn't any point - you can run 89 octane fuel WITH the 87 octane tune and get the same power increase. Why would they leave out all of the customers who run 87 by saying that they're only offering something that's safe on 89 or 91 octane gas?

Here's how it works:

SC makes 2 tunes available. One for people who will pay for high-octane fuel, and one for people who will only pay for low-octane fuel. Both of them offer a certain power increase, but you MUST use a fuel with enough of an octane rating to match the new fuel table mappings, otherwise you run get engine knock.

So SC says is they recommend you use a mimimum of 87 grade fuel to run the minor change tune, and they recommend you use a minimum of 91 grade fuel to run the major change tune. If you don't follow their recommendation, your engine will knock.
