Hey all, im new to the boards...although i dont own a charger, Im currently looking into either a SXT or maybe a R/T. However im not willing to shell out that much in gas and insurance and I have heard alot of great things about the 3.5l 250 horsies v6. Right now I own a 97 camaro RS 3.8l v6 with 215 hp (mods) . Im not going to lie I love Camaros, I love all muscle cars in general. Not so much mustangs though, they seem to weak and underpowered compared to the charger. And therye chicks cars. But when i took a look at the 08 camaros, something turned me off about them. I have been doing some research on the new chargers and they seem like a solid ride, the SXT,R/T and SRT. If anyone knows, how would the SXT charger compare to a RS Camaro in terms of speed and handling? I know im all over the place just looking more into the Charger ; )

I had an SXT, and I have to tell you, it was very quick.
And with a few $$$ and an upgraded exhaust system. it sound nice.

I don't have any experience with Camaros, but I will say that I love my SXT. It has plenty power, but most of us love the "chase" of more power, so, we mod...and mod...and mod. We are having a dyno day in our area on 11/11, so you'll be able to see what kind of mods have what kind of result(s) on the V6, as well as the HEMI and the SRT.

Really compare things out though. Insurance, so far, hasn't been very expensive for my R/T. About the same as my '02 Durango with a V8 was, I was actually surprised. One reason may be the body panels are inexpensive compared to other cars. I had mine repaired once that needed panels, and the collision guy pointed out that had my car been Pontiac or similar GM, it would have been thousands of dollars more to do the same repair. . . . Grain of salt . . .
The fuel economy may be comparable too - sure, a V6 will get better numbers. But, your foot can (but won't ;) ) control it on the V8's too. I've seen 22.5MPG on my mostly stop-and-go 17.4 mile commute (on the luckiest days when I make all the traffic lights), and I'm behaving myself. But, I also have times when I get about 16MPG.
I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I do almost all "in town" driving and average 14 - 15 MPG with my Daytona. As far as insurance goes mine went up about $10 a month and that was changing from a V6 Jeep Wrangler to a V8 Charger. Not bad IMO.
I've never driven a V6 model but from everything I've heard they are great and have plenty of power. Drive them all and decide from that if the V6 has enough power to make you happy. If it does then it may not be worth spending the extra money for an R/T or an SRT8. Bottom line is get what will make you smile when you drive it and you can't go wrong! Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I ran my V6 against my Dads 05 V6 Mustang auto and to 60 held very close to him (front of his door was at my front bumper). We shut down right at 60 since that was just over the speed limit.
Both stock and he thought he would eat me alive.
Should have run him in the Neon and whooped his a$$!

I wish I could offer the RS vs SXT match up, but not a Chevy owner.
Like the others have said, the V-6 is strong!!
I drove my 97 Intrepid into the ground and it's 3.5L had nothing on the my 06 SXT.
I dont change cars that often and have never had anything less that full coverage on any car that I have owned, but the total jump from my 97 to the charger was $84 a year more.
So call you agent and ask what the price would be and TEST DRIVE one.
I would advise driving the SXT first, and you can say "WOW, that Rocks!"
Then drive and R/T and have someone help you wipe of the silly grin you will have.

If you have the Bread, get a R/T then let the fun begin If you've been driving a while and live in a densly populated area you should not have to pay too much for Insurance but anything with a V-8 you know is not going to be too cheap. but if you can afford a R/T you should able to afford insurance. but if not the SXT is the next best thing.

I went from full coverage on a 2002 Neon ES to the Charger SE and mine only went up $24 a year. ABS, ESP, and lots more standard safety equipment help keep the Darwin effect low.
