I went and got my VON# today and the dealer told me that there is some kind of hold on the production of the charger SRT for the whole month of Oct. Is this what others are hearing? I guess I had read on here about delays but this is the first I remember the month of Oct. being a complete wash.

If so, then your dealer has more information than DC Customer Assistance, my dealer and the District Manager of my region.
NO ONE with authority has been able to tell me why there is a delay and how long it will last. Matter of fact, my dealer is sticking by their "mid to late November" estimated delivery date, only because they do not have information to the contrary. I find that delivery quote doubtful if they won't be building any during October.
I would only believe someone who said this who could prove their source and I could verify it. Otherwise, I still don't know for sure why there has been a delay and how long it will last. (the how long it will last is obviously the more important question)
So I sit here patiently with my "medication" trying not to chew my fingernails and listening to all the great stories of people driving their R/Ts and MagSRTs. :knockout:

Well here is more frustrating news. The dealer, (actual owner of the dealership) told me about the hold because I asked about the BG status. He said "there is this hold thru Oct." and he says "just a sec." He looks at the computer while I am talking to the sales guy. Three or four minutes later he says "this is strange, there is no explanation for the hold." "Usually it is for parts and we can change an order to get it built." He said "I have never seen a hold that gives no reason, I'm really not sure what they are upto."

Been there... heard that. Believe me, I've talked to many people over the last week and no one knows what's up. Moving from D to C status, per the Order Processor at the dealership, is "unheard" of in his 12 years at this job.
The best, and most credible, explanation I've received is that they just plain over-committed on the scheduling... period. They issued the first allocation and soon realized once they started building them that they couldn't keep up their "daily production" numbers with that aggressive of a schedule. It takes longer to build, so they moved them off and built more of what they can build quickly to bring up their numbers.
They'll probably spread out the build schedule on the Charger SRT-8s a bit so it doesn't impact the daily output numbers so dramatically until they can get the SRT8 builds sped up.
Again, all hearsay and there's no way that DC would ever publish anything to admit that they were "too optimistic".

When I place my order on sept 6th my dealer said a hold would be placed on the order because of the Side Airbags. He removed the airbags from the order and the car was built on the 20th and is currently in transit. I have read elswhere on the board that all Chargers that people have ordered side airbags on have been held up.

I didn't order side airbags on mine. Not sure about others but would venture to say most did not. My order date was 9/29.

the hold isn't for parts. This kind of hold means that they found something wrong with the SRT8.

http://www.gefleet.com/fleet/your_office/intouch/chryslerus_status.htm Go about 1/3 of the page down till you find the charger listed. It shows the SRT's on hold until (estimated) 9/12/05

I've been away for a little bit and am just catching up here so I'm probably writing out of turn but it would seem to me that if they found a problem with the car, whatever it is....defective part, fit/finish, etc. I think that DC is doing the right thing and holding them all until they get it right. I for sure don't want a car that I need to bring back for some dumb recall two weeks after I take delivery.
Why does DC need to operate differently than any other corporation in America? Where else does the consumer get honest 'straight from the factory' info as it develops. It only creates confusion for the consumer to get bits and pieces of information. Enthusiasts aside, of course, but the average car buyer doesn't know the dip stick from a ball joint....and they don't need to.
Naturally we all want to know what the hold up is but honestly what could you do with that info, other than satisfy impatient curiosity? If there's an SRT seat shortage is anyone going to call THEIR vendors and speed it through? If there's an electrical problem are you going to forward your schematics to help out? If the 6.1L's are stuck in Mexico are you taking your truck to get 'em? These guys are the pros and they are doing the best they can to get the product out the door. It's not doing them any good to have the parts at the factory and the money in YOUR pocket.
I want this car as bad as anyone here but I'm not going to lose sleep over it....the info will come, the cars will follow. Maybe we're better off than the guys that DID get the first ones.
Anyways...this isn't directed at anyone in particular, in my job I'm on the receiving end of these requests/questions regarding status, etc. and it gets old....sorry for the rant.

I agree. DC is creating confusion by not communicating clearly with the dealers on the delay.
Really doesn't matter to me now since I just received a status update and my car is in D1 status!! Woo Hoo!! Estimated ship date of 10/15/05.
I guess they WILL be building Charger SRT-8s in October.
Another rumour dispelled.

That's great news for you, moparfan!
At least you'll be enjoying your new ride during the winter. If the cars start coming in I'll be getting mine just in time to hide it from the snow, slush and salt.
I guess I could just sit behind the wheel and make motor and tire squeeling sounds until spring...maybe you could send me a sound clip of yours to get me through the winter

You could be in D1 until November
Just kidding, did your dealer call you with the info, I will have to check on mine for sure now. Like you I had a VIN and was in D status yesterday.

The way things have gone so far, I wouldn't doubt that statement except that they've quoted a 10/15/05 "estimated" ship date. There's always that "estimated" word that gives them an out, but I've been told D1 is a very firm schedule and there is virtually 0% chance of a schedule change.
I've got autorail1 tracking it for me, so I'm sure I'll know once it's been shipped.

I thought that too, but based on the fact that I've moved to D1 status now and been given an estimated ship date, I would say that rumour is incorrect.
