Does anyone know if there is a downside to getting a hoodscoop that is there just for looks? Any suggestions on where to look for one that will actually match the paint correctly?

There's quite a few members with non-functional scoops. If you like the looks, I don't think there's a downside.

The bolt on scoops look very cool. Seen them in person as well as here on the forum. Plenty of vendors do them, easy to drill 4 holes and make a nice clean look. I personally think it makes that big hood look a little sexier. I may be biased however...

Actually most of them tape on only. The one above that I have been installing has 2 pins in the front corners with a nut that goes under the hood.
I just did 2 Chargers Yesterday. A Silver 2006 and A new 2007 TorRed.

A non-functioning hood will increase drag everso slightly, but that would only be an issue at high speed and wouldn't make a startling amount of difference in fual use (I would expect it to be very minimal). So - not much of a downside really, other than the potential for 'peeps in the know' (guys who know the difference between a functional and non-functional hood) laughing at them.
To each their own.

If you decide to get one, definitely get one that blends in with the hood well. I've seen plenty of stick on crap on here and on eBay that I would be ashamed of myself, but go for it if you like it. Be sure that when you order one, they are using your manufacturer paint code to match it, or get an unpainted one and take it to a local body shop so you can kick them if they don't match it right.

PM me if you are interested, I can help you out. I have sold and installed dozens of the above scoop on Chargers and never had a complaint. I can supply it to you Factory Color Match or unpainted. I have scoops in stock, and can have one painted and shipped in 2-3 days. If you want unpainted, I can ship it the day after payment is received.

After I bought my R/T, I was looking at the car, and saying to my self, "It needed something".
The hood (imo) looked to plain, so I got a bolt on hood scoop.
I'll be getting a RAM air hood in a couple months.
Here is a pic.

I purchased my hood scoop from autoguy and it looks awesome really good fit nobody on the streets can even tell its just a stick on and non functioning so thats a good thing here's a picture of it and it matches the paint perfect and was alot cheaper than getting the srt8 hood that really isnt a fully functional ram air hood anyway.. here's some pictures check them out.[IMG]http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/jdeedaddy33/0922061738.jpg

hey autoguy - can you send or post pics of one of these scoops not installed? I have an idea for a project and I'd like to see a front and underside view to see if it would work.

I think the only downside would be reduced gas mileage because of the drag.
