Take it off and pound it into the ground. An instant 100 hp increase. You
better find a good chiropracter as you are going to need it from neck whiplash when you mash the go pedal. Actually, you may get a little bit
more induction sound, but that's it.

Oh on the v6 ok now I know what it is.
1 it is an air channel from the lower opening of the bumper cover to your airbox
2 it helps hold your airbox in place
I see you have the K&N intake, not sure if it helps hold any part of that in place but I know for sure it helps w/ the stock and the airaid CAI in place.
Do you mean RESONATOR? We don't have a restrictor plate that I know of.
So there's no resonator, aka the "bladder" that I've heard about ? In my old Eagle Vision there was a plastic horn jammed into the air intake (post box)... and I thought I had read that there is some similar sort of thing on the LX but on the pre-filter side.

If you remove it be sure to throw it away immediatly or risk arrest for possesion of drug paraphanalia.

 DAMN!!! That is one big and ugly piece of...ummm...uhhh...thing!
By the looks of it, I don't know that you'd gain much (read: any) additional power, as it doesn't really look to restrict the airflow so much as to quiet it down. You may drop about 25 lbs though :D

Also, just to add, Daytonas do not have these from the factory. I found this out when I went to remove mine.

Yeah...I'm thinking that just the 3.5L cars have them, although I'm not sure about the 2.7s

this piece might come in handy ... maybe some one can use it and make it smaller , and some how turn it around to be used to act like a ram air....modify it show how.. just that one piece that looks like the pipes under my kitchen sink

Dumb question that I probably already know the answer to but does anyone know if it's possible to remove this thing without lifting the front end of the car up? I can fit underneath the bottom of the car, but wonder if the airsilencer will have enough room to be taken out once it's unbolted. I really want to take this out, but have no way of lifting the car up in an apartment parking lot. Grrrrr.

Yeah...I'm thinking that just the 3.5L cars have them, although I'm not sure about the 2.7sI can tell you that both our 5.7L 300Cs have this same intake "silencer." One function it provides is water separation (to some extent) for any liquid splashed up into the engine bay or bumper facia during rain or puddles and entrained in the - not disaster proof by any means, but...
IF removed, this leave a downward-facing suction hole from the stock air box that could be more susceptible to water intrusion in a worse case scenario.

It would be very difficult if possible at all. I bought some inexpensive plastic ramps that worked fine. You could use them in an apartment parking lot. Just be aware that on smooth garage floors they slide. If your apartment has rough pavement you will be fine.

Hey Tim. Nice to see you here. Since many of the newer LX's (Daytonas for example) don't have them from the factory I feel pretty comfortable removing it.

Yes... I understand that Daytona's don't have the silencer, but most others replace the stock air box with an "open air" cone filter, etc. Any box that maintains "up suction" through that access hole risks, to some degree IMO, drawing water liquid into the place where it can do the most damage if passing through the actual filter. That's the primary point I was trying to make.

I took mine out to, and on the butt dyno (no increase at all). A bit of sound at full throttle. and a real pain in the ass. as far as diffaculty, 30 minutes and most of that is spent getting the plastic under belly cover off. word of advis put the belly cover back in place and be prepeared to put pain in the butt plastic pop rivets in. And it does not help hold the air box in place. There is a seperate screw for that purpose(top side in front of intake box.) have freind blow thew the silencer when removed and put hand in front od discharge. now think of what your poor car has to suck air threw. Some one on site sts that to much time in design was spent on this peice. Theirrrrr rightttt.

I did it also with a hose from someone else's charger that put a CAI on and an air box from my old truck.
It fits perfect.

Not sure how the pics will come out laying under the car though.

I'm terrified of getting water in the intake... I use a coin-op carwash right now and the high pressure washer puts mist everywhere. Any idea how this might affect my car if I rip out the horn-bong ?
Pls start new threads with your mod pics.. I want to see them too.

I had a focus svt with the aem cai. Filter sits right at the drivers side tire in that set up on the svt. I drove through hurricane rain and was out in francis and wilma no hydro lock issues. Our cars # 1 would have to be in pretty high water. # 2 just plain do not have the suction power to pull water up 24 inches of hose and through filter element into intake.
johnnoottom
10-11-2006, 09:28 PM
also the hole for the intake goes into the wheel well and there is really no way to get that much water in there ..even if u do use a high pressure house...i am not saying its physically impossible... but its highly unlikly

I just installed my own ram air intake inspired by your example. I used an air duct kit I bought from AutoZone but instead of taking the air duct to the front of the radiator I pulled out the plastic cover where the fog lights would have been on my car and connected the air duct there. I re-installed the cover but I cut out some of the plastic to let air in. It looks like a little plastic grill because I cut the plastic along the length of the slots. Looks pretty good and I am know getting some cooler air into my Airaid CAI.
Thanks for the idea ZMagnum!

Pulled mine today .. I had to take the belly pan off anyways to put in my new fog lights. That thing sure does look restrictive.

Here is another question, I was looking and thinking were air comes in with the whole bottom of the car sealed up, so I took off this piece, was easy, you can do it without even taking off the belly pan, just reach in through the lower opening.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/bcubed/Charger/ChargerUpgrades049.jpg
Here is the car without it (don't mind all the scrapes, was the previous owner )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/bcubed/Charger/ChargerUpgrades026.jpg
Is this worth doing? Is it good? Is it bad? Luckily if I have to put it back in, it's real easy. Just seems like air coming in through the front would be directed into the space under the air box.
For reference, heres the other side with the piece still installed

I left that piece out also - it seems like it would let more air in. I'm not 100% convinced that it actually does anything though.... :)
I know exactly what your are talking about that - in theory it should provide a bit better air flow.

So far I havent ridden up on a curb, but cant say that about the previous owner .. the belly pan was pretty bad as well, especially back where the 2 10mm bolts are.

I hit one. Once - They do some damage quick.
Thanks for posting pics though. It's much easier to try and understand what people are talking about when there are pics to look at.
Previous drivers of my beast scraped the bottom up so bad there's only 1 bolt holding my service panel...
I removed the bonghorn and tossed it straight into the trash last weekend. I left that little panel in for now tho' ... I'm a bit paranoid about *too* little intake restriction against debris etc.
I wish someone had explained to me how the push rivets worked :p I had no idea there were two pieces until yesterday when I popped-off the PCM panel for the Jet chip. Here I was just trying to mash the whole rivet pieces in... then again they were pretty damaged so I should probably grab some more from the stealership... but I'll wait until she's up on a hoist before I install 'em as the ramps were a bit of a nightmare (I had to overinflate the front tires just to clear the front bumper, and then of course they decided to slide... I managed to get her 1/2 way up and that was enough for the bong extraction).

Maybe it's just me, but when I removed this thing (and yeh the rivets are a big head ache), I noticed that around 3000 RPM, I felt the car pull harder and I also heard what sounded like something opening up. (sounds good!) I seem to recall a thread on another forum explaining this but can't find it.
