lol i was going to post pics but cant find my camera ..(i will try and find it and take pics so you know what im talking about.
But up at the front of the car you will find next to the wiper fluid. where it has a sticker that says esp there is a plug right in front of it .
you will need to get that plug off then find the wire that is violet with a light blue line (NOT the one with dark blue)
remove the violet with light blue stripe from the plug you will have to take off the red clip that holds the wires in and use something pointed to pry the pin that holds the wire in the plug.
once you do that the wire should come out . now you have no more esp put back in the red pin holder so no other pins come out plug the plug back in and start your car now it should say esp/bas and have the car with lines behind it on ..you now have no more esp
want your esp back plug the wire back in and your back to normal.
I hold no responsibility for you doing this mod

Does the ABS system still work?
Excuse the obvious, but what does this get you that pressing the ESP OFF button doesn't ?

Yes abs works fine
Excuse the obvious, but what does this get you that pressing the ESP OFF button doesn't ?
turning the esp off by the button doesnt really turn it all the way off . if you ever turn it off and get the tires lose you can fill it still brake to regain traction

Unless you have an SRT you cannot completly turn off ESP with the button

Why not splice the wire and add a switch?

I want to try and get small vinyl lettering that says HEMI COOLER or something. :)
I've isolated the wires in the bezel that control the ESP there.. I'm going to attempt to replace them with the wires running from the ESP to control the complete shut off.

here's a really dumb question (maybe) has anyone ever had the chance to play with a starscan (or whatever that touchpad unit the dealer has to interface with your car's pc) and see just what options are in it? I was just wondering what you could do with it, maybe you can use it to disable esp or something. Don't know who much you could do on the fly, though.

Yup that's the wire I spliced and ran a switch to in order to disable the ESP and torque management (ah la the GSM mod) :D

you can make the wire look normal, but you cant make the computer not show the fact that the system was disabled, not without a Starscan, which, to answer the other question, will NOT turn off ESP.

GLHS837 - I get the point that you're making here, but who cares if the computer shows that ESP was disabled at some time? Won't the computer log this sort of code for all kinds of innocuous things (i.e. disconnects)?
Unless the code reads "Void this owners warranty because they cut the blue wire with the intention of tricking our computer into disabling ESP without asking our permission first.", I don't really think it's worth worrying about.

O but your wrong ..lets just say something is acting up that is in some way related to esp you could be like my blah blah is messed up and also i have been seeing the esp/bas light come on also im not sure whats going on ..BAM!! now you have covered all aspects. you are now free to move about the cabin:lol:

Guys, please, yes, the computer sets innnocuous codes all the time, including ESP ones, and a spliced wire is indeed more indicitave of a owner whos asking for a warranty restriction.
But, and heres why I even mention it, if you think they dont read this stuff, your wrong. They do. And, yes, they can send out notes to dealers saying "LX vehicles displaying codes XXXX and complaining of driveline issues possibly relating to the disabling of ESP/BAS shall be reported to the regional DCX warranty representative prior to performing service."
They sent out a 10 page memo to dealers a few years back about SRT-4s, complete with diagrams of popular mods, and ways to spot where same had been removed for service. Such as wrench marks on the WGA bolts, or scratches on the WGA where a "spring mod" to rasie the boost would be.
Just be aware that we do not live in a cave, and anything you do here is subject to anyone reading it.

I would be very leery of anything like that. if you can't disable it all the way with the button, there must be a reason why. hell, even my exhaust and air intake make me nervous (goes for doing my own oil changes also) - truth is, if there's a way that big corporation can get out of paying out any dough, they're going to use it.

I am surprised that it gets to that level of hard-ball, given the difficulty DCX would have proving that anything indicative of "normal" work (wrench marks, etc.) was in fact deliberate system bypassing worthy of warranty denial. I take you at your word, but wonder in practice how useful it proves to be to them.
The path between car, owner, 3rd-party garage mechanic, dealer mechanic, dealer service writer, regional rep, and warranty office can be long and convoluted - you'd think they'd want more of an open and shut case rather than trying to turn every tech/mech into inspector Clouseau.
Never the less, thanks for the reminders.

They meant it as a ready reference of commonly founds mods. Hell, they even converted one vendors pitcures to line drawings:) The SRT-4s became a huge deal, warranty-wise, and caused a helluva counterreaction.
Cut and dried is never an issue. Like buying things in a Turkish bazaar, its all negotiable. The defualt position is to accuse the customer, try to get them to foot the full bill, then give ground as required. Now, not all places operate like this, but to assume they are your buddies can be a costly mistake.
Me, I never had any problems, but many did, and we saw every possible variation, from delaerships who would not blink at replacing an engine that was ridiculously modified, to those that called foul at a simple CAI claiming the increased air intake would alter the engines operation enough that it would void the warranty.
I just want folks to be aware that there are potential issues.
