I've had mine for 2500 miles since February and I get mine done every three months. I'll have my third before I hit 3K. :)
It's a condition of my extended warranty, so for me, yeah it is necessary. Eh, nothing wrong with spoiling the car..

The problem is that the cars are supposed to have synthetic oils as "factory fill". Since ALL synthetics are agressive on seals, it is important to get it changed as the anti oxidants and calcium carbonate that is added to the oils are depleated even when not being driven. There are better oils to use, but that is a story for another time!
Enjoy!

BrianNever thought about it hurting the seals. :(

was told that synthetic oils were a waste of money (from the owner of the oil change place) he said our cars need only a 5w20

Agreed. However, the other problem is that the "non synthetic" oils are not very good on pumpability, wearability, and oxidation stability. They are generally 35% solvent and change viscosity as much as 30% based on temperature (30% thinner when hot, and thicker when cold!) Also they absorb acid, carbon, and moisture which when mixed with the sulfur in the oil produces (Oxygen, Sulfur, and Moisture) Sulfuric acids! UGH! We need a synthetic type mineral oil that solves all the problems.

I have "never" heard of nor seen in all the research that Ive done on the Synthetic vs regular oil issue that synth may adversely affect seals. If so then why do synthetics last longer per oil change?
Now synthetics do reduce friction over normal oils. I watched muscle car garage when the took a Chevy Camaro with an LS1 and dynoed it. Then they replaced all the oils with Royal Purple. Then they dynoed it again. They gained a net 7hp. Reduce the friction, get back some of the HP lost fighting it in the drive train.
Now there is evidence that changing from the recommended oil to Synth in an MDS engine will affect the MDS and cause it not to function properly. Search the threads for this since this has been the subject of much heated discussion in the past.
And hey, change the oil everyday if you feel like it, can never have too much of a good thing.:smoke:

You have an RT so I wouldnt do it, like I mentioned there is a prob with the MDS on the 5.7's do a search through the threads and you will see that people have tried RP and have had to switch back.
Im running Mobil 1 synth but I have the 6.1

Yes, my extended warranty.. It was written on a notice I received in the mail when it was time for me to make an appointment. My oil changes are free, so I have no problem doing so..

Let me make sure I am reading this correctly. Synthetic oil will mess up the MDS? Please tell me that is now true.

What he said, Sorry I lumped all synthetics together and forgot that it was a oil weight prob/issue. I had to go back and look at some of the threads.
Thanks for the correction TN

Wow. I didn't get one of those notices yet. I just poured over my extended warranty policy after reading your post & didn't see it there. I guess I'll be getting one in the mail soon enough. But in all reality, changing the oil every 3 months isn't that big of a deal. I'll keep a log & all receipts.
All you need to do is follow the recommended schedule from the manual. Anything else and you are wasting your money.

If I can find one, I'll post a scan.. Check the fine print. :)

It won't do any harm...other than wearing the threads on the sump and oil pump out......
But it is 'over-servicing' really. The oil is still going to be fine after 12 months/12K miles (easily) I should think. But then again, if you want to be able to make a warranty claim, you have to stick to the book....however resource wasteful it might be.....

Not my opinion. All Synthetics need a certain amount of Ester based materials but mainly PAO that attack seals. Neither PAO or ESTER is the answer!
