So I filled up the Super Bee yesterday and thought I'd see what kind of MPG I gould get. Over 120 miles I averaged 21.5 MPG. Most of this was freeway driving between 65-70 MPH but some miles were stop and go on the freeway and waiting at stop lights in San Francisco.
Idling really hurts MPG as it shows zero MPG during these times. Sometimes after you fill the tank you can see the MPG numbers drop if you idle too long.
If you look at the picture you can see the average MPG which is 21.5. On the right is the instant reading for MPG which was 23.2. If you'e cruising on a long trip I'll bet you could get 22-23 miles per gallon. Most of the time while cruising the instant MPG read out shows in the 23-24 range.

I was careful to stay off the gas. I used cruise control most of the time. I can see though that over a long trip it will get good mileage if you keep it between 65-70 mph.

Is the instantaneous MPG view a new feature on all 2007 models or all SRTs, 06 and 07?

It's a new feature...the 06 didn't have it. And Cuda....I was driving like your grandma. It was hard staying in the slow lane for this test.

Although my R/T is an '06 and doesn't have instant MPG, this is very evident. A few months ago my wife and I started carpooling and if I'm idling outside her office waiting for her, my MPG tanks. I used to reset my MPG every time I filled up, so idle time was always fairly significant, but now I'm not resetting it as much so the idle time isn't as big a percentage of the total time included and it doesn't drop my MPG as quickly.
In previous cars, I'm pretty sure that idling did NOT kill the MPG, so I'm guessing the Charger calculation isn't as sophisticated.

I agree, my 2000 Dakota average MPG is not effected by idling.
