Hey Chuck - thanks. I've no mods, unless you count tint, auto-headlamps, and removed moldings as power-adders...

I wondered who was in the other lane, now I know. Looking at your time slip it tells me that either your engine is real warm OR you are carrying allot of extra weight. What was your starting OIL TEMP on that pass ? What do you have in the trunk ? Empty the trunk of the spare tire, jack assembly, spare tire cover, and the net. If you have an aftermarket sound system with a BIG AMP that is hurting your times.
Keep me psoted

Well my first run i had my girlfriend with me since it was just going to be a fun one for the night, but since we only got two runs in because of the qualitfing and then one lane was closed at around 9:30-45. But i had my subs out, the spare, the jack, the floor cover all removed. My car stock weights more then Trevors, not sure waht he all has agian but mine is fully loaded. sunroof, nav, rear dvd, and my amp is still in there. Plus it was only my 2nd time there. I'm going to be going agian and hopfully get more runs and get into the 14.2 range maybe, we'll see.

Oh and Cherry, so there's no confusion (people tend to get nit-picky the closer you get to the top), I could have worded this better to show that my trunk was empty (except for the cooler of ice that I hadn't bothered to take out):
...all I've done is read your tips (have yet to try the tire-pressure changes) and taken the junk out of the trunk.

I found my timeslip. I don't know specifics about the weather, but I know it was cool, maybe in the mid-50s.
The engine was hot, my best run was my first run fresh off the highway. I don't have EVIC so I can't say how hot.

Next time you go racing take ICE (in 7 or 10 pound bag) with you and put it on the intake (no engine cover) and do the .25 cent fan mod.
LET THE CAR SIT UNITL YOU GET THE OIL TEMP BETWEEN 140 to 150.
Make sure to pump up the front tires to 45 psi
Get your launch RPM up to 1,500 and do a shoulder roll start.
With practice you can get a 1.99 or better sixty foot and a 13.10 ET
Keep at it

Shouldnt they be closer to 13 flat? Just more evidence that the SRT-8 and Mustang GT are very, very close in 1/4 mile times.
Im not bashing, just tired of the bashing between the cars. Cant we just say they are pretty darn close to eachother in 1/4 times? And that its a drivers race?

Depends on DA. I'm sure this car is running at altitude.
Not to bash the Mustang - I actually love that car - but it's more comparable to an RT, not an SRT. I've beaten some, and I've lost to some - but always a very close race. The only way a Mustang is hanging with an SRT is if it's got some engine work (not just a CAI and exhaust).

Thats what I originally thought also. But I am seeing more and more stock SRT times near what some are getting in the stock GT.
Im going to leave my thinking that it all depends on the track and the driver for now.
Same driver, same track, same day tho, I would pick the SRT.
They're some quick moving family sedans thats for sure!

I would have to guess that these times were done at 3k plus elevation, as I recall seeing quite a few times from CA at that elevation. It's very deceiving, as that same car at sea level would certainly be in the very low 13's.

It's was a bad day for racing. We had heads winds of 30 MPH+ at times. I've seen many stock SRT8 run low 13 to high 12s. Plus this was my first time taking her out. Most of the Mustang GTs that ran yesterday were running in the high 13s to low 14s. It was just not the best racing conditions.

A group of us (mostly LXforums folks) went to Speedworld here yesterday - had a great time and made some good runs. Found a new race opponent who's a pretty even match - FactoryD has a Magnum R/T with similar mods and we had a hoot. I scanned the slip along with the one from my best run, our race is the yellow one, I'm number 04 (we got there early - three LX's in the front four). I thought I was just a scratch ahead until the last 200 feet or so when he just rolled on! Looking at the slip he had me from well before that, but not by much... That's what's fun at the track - being so closely matched to someone else. Time only is good for science, but a close race is where it's at.
As for my times overall, I was really happy with how my nanner did - previous best (last weekend) was 13.976, and I was stoked to get into the 13s. The only things that changed between then and today was I left the spare and jack at home, and I did a battery disconnect last night to clear the adaptives. [EDIT: Oh, also - except for the first run, I drove in AutoStick rather than Drive] So...
My first run was a 13.910, second was 13.892, third was 13.788... liked where it was going! I had 21 runs for an average of 13.841, and my best ET today was 13.753, though I redlighted on that particular run.
I'm getting into this - looking forward to next time, and I can't wait to see what the Airhammer will do versus the Volant I'm currently running...
Hey Rob, I ran your idea of using Meister's spare along with mine by the old man, and he looked blank for a minute then said: Damn, that's a great idea! Will let you know how that works if we try it...

Yeah, helluva lot better than I heard about Fontana (at least as far as crowds go). A few weeks ago, I made 9 runs in 39 minutes - had a series of four- and five-minute cycles, and even a three-minute cycle, timeslip to timeslip!!! Felt like I was on a circuit.

Your 2.062 is a great 60 foot time on stock tires. Did you DROP the rear tire pressures and pump up the fronts ???

No way not going to post Friday nights as they were horrible! :( I'll only see those for my notes.. Car was great tons of power:) , the driver had his head up his butt and can't get the car to hook up. :( Spinning the tires bad all night off the line, even with drag radials on for the first time. Plus first time using the SuperChips tuner going to need some time to play with this, bounced off the rev limiter one run. But I will post up Saturday's runs at Pittsburgh Raceway Park finally getting her to hook up better.
So, here's the info...
The weather was mid 60's all day cloudy early with sunshine in afternoon.

Went to Quaker City Raceway June 16th and had a pretty good day. Made the round of 8 in the Street Legal class and took myself out with a red light after setting staged for 4 and a half seconds due to running a car with a 18.62 dial in to my 14.07. As soon as I saw the red light I let off then got back in to the go run her down, which I did. The altitude was 1090 feet, bright sunshine and a temp between 76 - 80 all day. Here's the slips...

Hey all, I was pretty happy with my performance yesterday here in ID. Altitude of the track is 2700 ft. Temp was 88 when we arrived all three runs were between 85-80 degrees. My 60 ft. times were between 2.15 and 2.17 . My worst E.T. 14.498, my best 14.45 with top speed all 95/96 mph. Oh yeah once again there was a continuous headwind of 15-20 mph according to the track announcer. But, I was most proud of my victory over a new (not even registered yet) Impala SS. He had CAI and Magnaflow catback (a good guy by the way, talked to him for several minutes before we lined up.) He ran a 15.2 to one of my 14.49 so I felt this was a true indication of how my Charger is running since Car and Driver lists both the Charger and the Impala as having Q-mile times of 14.2. I treed him by .3 and was leaving him at the far end with a 96 MPH trap speed to his 92 MPH.

I just went and looked at your time posted and if you look at your time and compare it to mine you can see some very interesting differances. First if you look at the MPH from your 1/8 mile to your 1/4 your car only picked up 19.92 mph. This is slower than normal and I would think that heat soak would be the problem or the othe thing that comes to mind would be that your track is UPHILL.
If you compare you times from my R/T you can see that my 5.7 picked up 23.07 mph from the 1/8 to the 1/4 and the differance from your SRT to my R/T is that your car was 5.41 mph quicker in the 1/8 mile but ONLY 2.26 mph in the 1/4.
Make sure that you are adjusting tire pressues and iceing the intake down before flight. Keep me posted

Good observation, thanks again Chuck ... I don't know if the track is level or not, but I definitely think heat soak was an issue .. There weren't many people and I got a little carried away and did 12 runs ... The time slip I posted was the first run and not long after we got there, so the engine was still warm .. I looked through the slips and they all showed gains of between 19 and 21 MPH from 1/8 to 1/4. Then I dug out some slips from back in June before I we put the exhaust on, and the best then was 13.375 @ 105.38 ... 1/8 speed was 83.35 so a gain of just over 22 mph...
I only dropped the rear tires to 27 psi and put the fronts at 42, so I will definitely go to 22 in the rears next time ... Also will strip the covers off the engine pop the hood and turn the heat on coming back down the return lane (great idea) I did ice down the intake during a break and the temp was just over 150 when my lane started to move forward, but the darn thing heats up to over 200 in NO TIME ... It was very humid as well, and I don't know about these newer motors, but my 340 Duster always ran crappy in hot, muggy weather ... There was a huge difference on a cool, dry morning..
I will keep you posted and thanks again for the tips ... Man, your R/T is pretty quick .. What's done to her ? I was set to buy a ZO6 when I heard about the SRT8 about to be produced. I quickly went and test drove an R/T at my local dealership, was impressed and couldn't imagine what another 75 hp would feel like, so I scrapped the idea of the 'vette and put a down payment down on the SRT ... No regrets, (just wanna break out of the 13's without spending a fortune, and still keep her very driveable, cause it's an awesome car to drive on the highways)

Switch out the stock t-stat to one of 180 degrees
Do the .50 cent fan mod and plug it in (let it run most of the time)
Stay out of the water box (if possible)
Shoulder Roll the car off the line
As for my R/T the only mods are the 180 t-stat; .50 cent fan mod; and a
K&N CAI. Other than that all stock even the exhaust and computer. Just lots of time done the 1/4 mile. I have been Drag Racing for 35 years.

WTG Kenny,
The numbers are going the right way. I am looking forward to reading about your FIRST 12.99 ET. Keep working on your 60 foot time. I honestly believe that a 1.90 is possible with a SRT8 in stock form.
I have gone a 2.01 with CHERRY.

Thanks Chuck ... I'm really looking for that first break out of the 13's as well ... practice, practice, maybe the third set of rear tires (can't figure out why I can't get more than 5,000 miles on a set :silenced: ) , and maybe a cool, DRY night and who knows ??? Man, it really gets into your blood, trying to be better every run, ha ?? I can't wait to finish getting our little 340 Duster back together and see what she'll do, and give the hemi a breather !!
I was a little surprised that the 1.99 60' resulted in a slightly slower et the other night .. Any thoughts? I know it was a very small difference, but it all is starting to matter at this point...

Oh, and thanks Carlos ... The thermostat is the #4127, 176 degree unit from autozone ... runs right around 175-180 on the open road now, and it feels stronger when ya kick in the passing gear at around 60 MPH ..It will still get up just over 200 around town, but I don't think that's neccessarily a bad thing, and right now just planning to use the jumpers at the track to cool the engine between runs...It makes a huge difference with the fans blowing on low with the intake iced down, versus just the ice alone..Intake got cool as a cucumber in between runs.. I started the night there with exactly a half tank of gas too..

ps .. anyone have any slick tricks for getting the rubber off the lower quarters after racing, besides a good blast from the high pressure washer ?? Thinking about spraying some silicone or something on them so it won't stick so badly .. What a mess !! Brake cleaner helps, but I don't imagine it's all that good for the paint

As for you time differance what time of the day were the runs made. Which one was first ? Did the wind change speed or direction ? Make sure to look at the flags before you take off

My wife and I took CHERRY to Dragway 42
(located in West Salem, OHIO) on Saturday 9-1-07.
Air was a high of 82 with a low of 69.
Wind was at 7 MPH and we were racing into it.
I made a total of 11 passes tonight with 6 of them being Time Trails.
I was doing the driving and managed to WIN the EVENT !!!!!!!
My Reaction Times were pretty good, well good enough to win.

This was actually posted on LXF in a knock Sensor thread but Figured its been a while since I had posted in this thread so...

Ok here are the log graphs.
My set up for those that don't know are the following.
AirHammer, SC 91 RSP RTM AK, Gibson Headers, HHP High flow Cats, Zoomers Cat Back, 180 Tstat, Fan Mod, 265 45 18 DR on Steelies @ 24psi, fuse 17 pulled, Fronts SRT Wheels w/ F1's 50psi,
Car was 4390# I had all loose stuff out of the car ( still had the Amp and Seats in :p
The idea on this testing was to make 2 passes with 104 Race Gas and everything as I normally run, then disconnect the KS and make 2 passes to see if there is a change in the Advance max timing.

My handheld has a station pressure 30.12 which is a uncorrected pressure for the location.
Using an online calc for tuning engines using my station pressure I had a DA of 1324ft
As a note I checked my Handheld vs Weather.com a few times through the day and they were generally close. The onlything I was seeing that was a little odd was later the Baro went up but the station pressure stayed about the same.
Using the Weather.Com data I got a DA of 1526

No Data log as the Dash Hawk seems to have lost it mind when I did my burn out.
So when I enter this into the log books I do it as an average between these two methods.
My sum is this, I have a Cat or something smacking the body on launch and then I got no knock. Each of those dots is a data point on a .2 second logging run so you can count them and know how long something was going on.
What I didnt see this time which I have seen almsot every time on a hot pass is KR on each shift. this is a first that I recall for me. Ill be doing some more work on this, but @ 5.50 a gallon I need to be doing this some place that I can get a lot of testing runs in.

I went to the track yesterday and had fun with my Daytona and talking with friends there even though it was a very busy night. I did 2 time runs and won my first trophey round but had to go home because I had to get up real early the next day for my job.
I think my Daytona is running good bone stock(except for the brylcreme mod).
The handwritten time are from the 0-60 timer.

Stats are Superchips 91 tune w/raised shiftpoints, 1/2 tank gas, 28psi in the rear, 1000RPM launch, little tire spin from Mashing the gas (too much adreniline). This was my 4th run and the 2nd run with superchips. It as appox 60 degrees outside. Oh yeah, I'm the one on the left #601.

TODD;
You are coming out of the hole with to much rear tire pressure, that is why you are spinning at 1,000 rpm. Drop the rear tires to 24 psi, pump the front up to 45 psi, race with -0- in the trunk, and try to have th gas around 1/4 to 1/3. You car only ran 17.67 mph more in the 1/4 from the 1/8 mile time, which is low.
BUT your 1/8 mile MPH at 81.20 is real high for the ET in the 1/8. Compare your times to CHERRY, you will see a big difference in 60 foot, even though your Charger pulled more MPH in the 1/8 than mine.

I will try lowering the tire pressure more next time. I know my Daytona weighs alot but I haven't had it weighed yet. It's fully loaded Side air bag curtins...ect. I left the tranny in auto stick but I'm not happy with the superchips. Every time it shifted it feels like it hit the rev limiter twice then shifted. As far as the gas I know it was too much but I is just what I ended up with. We don't drive her everyday so I only put gas in it about every other week. Current Milage is 5400 miles on race day. My last run I tried rolling into the throttle (the other 5 times I just lost my head:) ).
When rolling into the throttle this was my following. Everything the same as before except no tire spin. This was also the last run of the day.
R/T .306
60' 2.149
330' 5.969
1/8 9.092
MPH 78.51
1000 11.798
1/4 14.079
MPH 99.19
Most of my problem I think lies with getting my 60' time closer to 2.0 and not spinning.
I have read over your tips a couple of times before running and did what I could. I just have to get out and practice more :)
Thanks for the advice.

I felt the same way with my superchips. I now just leave it in D and let it do what it has to do now. I'm cutting 2.06 - 2.08 60' times. Just like Chuck says, it's how you attack the throttle.
My only suggestion is take out the spare tire and run the lower rear tire pressure next time you're at the track. With Chucks help I am now running 13.70s basicly stock (super chips, no resonators, K&N drop in filter). 13.4's with drag radials are next for me (with practice that is)

Then it was on to the bracket racing, all brackets were done 1/8th mile only due to the weather being in the 50's and they didn't wan't to risk safety issues with the faster cars. So I dialed in a 8.71 for my car as that seemed to be the mark I figured I wouldn't break out of.
1st bracket run:
RT: .0050
60 FT: 2.0400
330 FT: 5.7418
1/8 ET: 8.7661
1/8 MPH: 80.91
2nd bracket run:
RT: .1448 (Sleeping at the lights )
60 FT: 1.9772 (Oh that's great now my dial in is screwed , but woot for a decent 60 FT)
330 FT: 5.6673
1/8 ET: 8.6871 (crap broke out, wish I had a 1/4 mile slip for a new PB)
1/8 MPH: 81.08
All in all I was happy, some killer times I thought, I need some sticky tires, low 13's shouldn't be a problem then with a good DA like saturday was, I launched easier on the last run and think I should have tried that earlier in the day. The car was ran with a 1/4 tank of gas and the spare tire/jack/and spare tire lid removed, the car is fully optioned VES/sunroof/NAV/ETC. and was run with the full interior, tire pressure was 44 PSI in the fronts and 22 PSI in the rears. My buddy also ran a personal best in his 2002 grand prix (11.45 @ 118 MPH), we had a blast.

I think it was because I was #69. Cant say I remember seing ya. Maybe a pic would help me.
Seen a few magnums, a nice quick black one I seen running 13.0. I got stuck racing 9,10,11 sec cars on 3 runs, thats never fun. But I did get to run the Silver Magnum that was out there but left with taillights.
The guy snappin pics at the track should have his pics up later tonight.

I was out on saturday not today, had to make the haul home to MN. Had to be packed out there, the SCC events there usually are, there was only like 30 cars out on saturday. That track is ghetto but I have always loved it, low altitude and they prep just as good if not better than any other track out there.

Bah, not that horrible of a drive, I am usually out in the chicago suburbs once a month or so due to the inlaws living out there. I'll have to maybe pm ya next year when I hit up US41 as I like to go a couple times a year out there, might be a good race once I slap my camshaft in this winter.

Here are my times from last night(11/2/07). It was about 40-45 degrees outside. Mods were what I have in my sig. I have the timeslips I can scan in at work on Monday if anybody wants to see them.
Best ET: (3rd race of back to back to back runs)
60 ft: 2.003
1/8 ET: 8.322
1/8 MPH: 86.36
Best MPH: (2nd of back to back to back)
60 ft: 2.061
1/8 ET: 8.359
1/8 MPH: 87.01
Keep in mind those were done while spraying. I made a couple of passes first without spraying to see the difference and both times ran 8.825 around 81 mph. 60 ft on those passes were 2.077 and 2.070. It looks like the nitrous was good for about half a second and 5-6 mph in the 1/8th!
Overall I was very pleased with the results. This was only my second time to the track with the nitrous installed and the best I did the first time was 8.6xx with a non-nitrous baseline of 8.9xx. So I beat my all time previous best by about 3 tenths! Oh, and the reason I ran 3 times in a row was because I was lined up with a Z28 with a heads/cam swap, headers, etc. We were pretty much dead even all the way down the track every time. I beat him all 3 times (even though he had better times 2 of the 3) but it was very, very close every time. It was a blast!
