For those who have been wondering about the difference between the Daytona and the Road & Track suitcase mufflers, here's the info we've all been waiting for. I purchased the Daytona system from mango912 this past weekend and took photos of the inside of the suitcase before I installed it. I also took photos of my R&T suitcase after it was removed.
As you can see, there is one small ring of perforations about halfway down the thru-pipe on the Daytona muffler. The rest of the pipe is solid. The R&T muffler has two, much larger perforation areas along the length of the thru-pipe. Many of you had heard of the smaller hole count in the Daytona muffler but no one knew for sure. These photos were taken looking into the driver's side resonator connection (the only one that unbolts from the muffler). I put a small flashlight down as far as I could get it to illuminate the interior.
As for the sound difference, I'd say the Daytona exhaust system is 20-25% louder than my Road & Track system. It has a raspier, coarser sound since less of the exhaust pops are being absorbed in the muffler. The overall tone is not any deeper (like Borla's or Flowmasters) than the R&T, it's just louder. Driving around town, I can easily tell it is louder than what I've listened to for the past year. The Daytona system has less mileage (6K) on it than my original (12K) but they should both be broken-in.
I am including a link to the thread maneval69 started back in May that has a large amount of info compiled on these systems (everything except the long-awaited photo proof). I hope all this info helps.
