For those who have been wondering about the difference between the Daytona and the Road & Track suitcase mufflers, here's the info we've all been waiting for. I purchased the Daytona system from mango912 this past weekend and took photos of the inside of the suitcase before I installed it. I also took photos of my R&T suitcase after it was removed.

As you can see, there is one small ring of perforations about halfway down the thru-pipe on the Daytona muffler. The rest of the pipe is solid. The R&T muffler has two, much larger perforation areas along the length of the thru-pipe. Many of you had heard of the smaller hole count in the Daytona muffler but no one knew for sure. These photos were taken looking into the driver's side resonator connection (the only one that unbolts from the muffler). I put a small flashlight down as far as I could get it to illuminate the interior.

As for the sound difference, I'd say the Daytona exhaust system is 20-25% louder than my Road & Track system. It has a raspier, coarser sound since less of the exhaust pops are being absorbed in the muffler. The overall tone is not any deeper (like Borla's or Flowmasters) than the R&T, it's just louder. Driving around town, I can easily tell it is louder than what I've listened to for the past year. The Daytona system has less mileage (6K) on it than my original (12K) but they should both be broken-in.

I am including a link to the thread maneval69 started back in May that has a large amount of info compiled on these systems (everything except the long-awaited photo proof). I hope all this info helps.

Werd, I love how the Daytona sounds..... it's loud when you get on it but it's sublime when you're at crusing speeds. I hate cars that are so loud they actually make driving tiring over long distances due to the constant drone.

Wow, that didn't take long to finally work out! rofl.

Thanks Rodney! Great post man.

Actually that color is currently unreleased. In your case it's TorRed when cruising.

Okay, this may now explain why I can hear MDS so easily on my car.

So I am thinking that the brylcreem mod might not be as dramatic an upgrade for a Daytona owner than for other Chargers?

I do believe that to be correct.

the brylcreem mod was a definite improvement; I would say 20% noise increase. I can still hear MDS on mine.

Can you post both suitcase muffler part numbers? Thanks.

The Daytona muffler is # 04578414AA and the R&T muffler is # 05290499AB. This and much more info is included in the thread link in my original post. The resonators are all the same on all the 5.7's.

Hope this helps.

I'd say that is 100% the case! :)

I wonder how the Daytona muffler compares to a Flowmaster 40. Sorry to start the whole thing over again.

I just installed a used Daytona system on my R/T. Normal driving seems to be louder with a cold engine, once warmed up it is slightly quieter. Hard acceleration it is noticably different. Driving through a parking garage you definetely hear more of an echo. MDS operation is slightly more noticable. Haven't tried highway cruising yet. Not a bad system.

I hope to enjoy your experiences as well. I plan to do this within the week.
