HI everyone. I apologize if my questions are a tad redundant, but I have quite a few and figured it would be better to ask in one thread than doing a search and reading a ga-zillion posts.
Basically, I am selling my 65 Koupe. Sadly she was my dream car and my wife baught her as a B-day present, but I never drive her, and I need a new DD. So, I am looking at either an '06 Daytona or an '07 GT/CS with the Drag pack option. I test drove the Daytona today, and loved the way it handled. It didn't ahve the 'umph' I was looking for, but it was a very nice car. So, I am comparing the two. I have four kids so the third seat in back will help, but only on the rainy or really hot days. Other than that, the kids walk to school. So, I had a few questions and would greatly apreciate everyone's help. I always to research before buying and I am looking to get one or the other within the next 3 weeks.
#1) how much HP do the D-R/T's put down stock?
#2) How good is the aftermarket support for performance?
#3) what is the avg 1/4 mile time for a stock D-R/T?
#4) in your experience are Dodge dealerships nice to work with when having aftermarket parts?
#5) What kid of aftermarket parts are there? S/Cs? Gears (which ratios)?
#6) Above all else, what common problems do they have, if any?
I read that the Hemi's have 2 spark plug's per cylinder. Is that because of the 'efficient 4-cyl.' feature? I mean, at $5 bucks a pop, at the minimum, that will get expensive. Especially if you want good plugs.
PLease forgive my ignorance. I am Mustang guy, and am not familiar with Dodge and their products. Aside from what I have read in Magazine's and thier catalog, I dont' know much about these cars. And I dont' trust mag's much.
Thanks again for all your help.

1. Dodge advertises them at 340 HP
2. Decent, all the normal bolt-ons are available, intakes, cat-backs, headers. The cars are hampered (IMO) by overly-restrictive computer contols that no one I know of has been able to completely figure out. The cars will not reach their full potential untill the 'puter is figured out
3. Low to mid 14s seem to be the norm
4. Totally depends on the dealer, I 've seen horror stories, and I've seen happy customers
5. See #2, gears are a (so-far) a no-no with the computer. There is at least one SC kit available from GSM
6. Truck lid rub, there's a TSB to fix that one. That would be the most common, but it's minor.
The 4 cyl mode you speak of is MDS, a system where the engine deactivates 4 cylinders at light load cruising speeds to save fuel. It does this by electrically collapsing lifters and deactivating injectors on selected cylinders

Thanks....I thought the Daytona's were 350 and the standard R/Ts are 340...no matter though...how much DT loss with the manual auto tranny? I am guessing 280 RWHP and 340 TQ is what they would be putting down.
Thanks for clarifying the MDS. I read up on it, but wasn't sure how it worked. SO that is the reason for the 2 plugs per cyl. correct?

PS. I own a '66 GT Hipo coupe myself. My dad bought it new in '66, and it was given to me when I got my license. It is currently undergoing a full restoration

The Daytonas and the Road and Track package Chargers have 10 more HP due to a different exhaust, so they are rated at 350. I would assume a 15%-18% power loss through the drivetrain. As far as the two plugs, I don't know if they are deactivated with MDS or not. It would make sense, but have not heard for sure. Two plugs can better light the fuel/air mixture, my '94 4 cyl Ranger has 2 plugs per cyl, so I believe the 2 plugs are more for mileage or reduced emissions

Oh ok. THis is the first car i have heard of having 2 plugs per cylinder. I din't know the Rnagers had them. Then again, 94 was more the 'mazda' ranger, no?
BTW - I just posted a pic of my Koupe in teh 'what all do you drive' picture section, if you are interested. I am actually trying to sell her.

The Rangers were made by Mazda for Ford, but they have the 2.3 German design engine that has been in Pintos, Mustangs, trucks and many others since around 1980. They started as single plug, and went to dual plug in (Ithink) 1993. Mazda trucks have the japanese engine. I'm trying to find the picture, I'd like to see it.

All the Rangers were made by Ford, including ther ones Mazda has and are still selling. At least all the Mazdas since the 1994 model year. :)

I sold my '06 Mustang GT with 563 miles on it to buy the Daytona. I have never regretted that decision for an instant.
The Daytona has a much better ride, much more room, a more refined suspension, and more rarity. The Mustang was hard to get in and out of with my 6'4" height, I kicked the speakers in the doors getting in and out, and the clunky suspension was inexcusable in an all-new car. The 5-speed shifter was notchy, even after installing a Hurst shifter. It was a hell of a lot of fun to drive, but even so it sat in the garage most of the time.
You won't regret going with the Daytona.

Visit your DC dealer and test drive everything, especially the SRT's: 300, Cherokee, Charger. Stick with this site for knowledge and fun. Pick a color. Make a deal. Sign the contract. ENJOY!

Average Daytona RWHP is about 270-280.

My bone stock R/T with out R&T with only about 2700 miles on her did 288.9 RWHP on a Dynojet dyno when I first got her. A few months, a few thousand miles and an oil change later she did 295RWHP.

Thats why I always express dyno numbers in averages, individual results vary. :)
I've seen stock SRT-8 dynos in excess of 380, but aways say the average is 360-370, since maybe %90 of the ones I see fall into that range.
