I know this has been covered a little in the forums but I have to vent. I just received my tuner last night and was real excited about installing it this morning. My RT is only a month old and this was to be her first mod. I updated the tuner via online but when I went for the install got a "E-36 Vehicle Unsupported" error. Unsupported?

Of course now I find out that Dodge changed the pcm mid-year and Superchips doesn't support this. So even though they advertise it supports the 06's (like mine) this is NOT the complete truth. I am seriously bummed and more than a little pissed.

I don't know what the exact cutoff on the build-date is but I wouldn't purchase this thing if you you have bought your Charger in the last few months. I had to do some serious searching just to get this information and see nothing about Superchips plans to remedy this. Why doesn't Superchips make this issue known? Theres a forum link below where Ron basically says "you may just want to return it".

I'm STILL waiting on a callback from Superchips.

You have the 07 computer software version. I was at my local Performance Products store yesterday getting Royal Purple, and saw the Superchips tuner behind the counter. When I asked the guy about it and told him what I had (late 06 Daytona, TorRed) he said he wouldn't touch it with the Superchips until the 07 updates come out.

I have spent 6 or 8 thousand dollars at this speed shop over the last couple of years. I trust their word and their knowledge, as it's always the SAME 5 guys behind the counter. We see each other at shows, have car-guy conversations. I just don't trust buying stuff online or through the mail-order, because you never know if you are getting what you really need/want. And if you do have problems, there is no one to talk to, or to return the product to without major shipping hassles.

Not to mention, once you develop a relationship whit your local speed-shop owner, you start to get some discounts. I currently pay about 30% off of retail costs for my goodies for my hotrods. EXAMPLE: 770cfm Holley Street Avenger for UNDER $400!!! I know a guy paid $500 for a 570cfm, because he walked in off the street.

Thanks for the sympathy guys. Yeah REB you're right about going local but Superchips is fairly established and I thought it would be a bit smoother operating with them. Doing some refined searches I find people dealing with this same issue back in June.

I guess now I have to decide on whether to return or just wait it out for an update. I hate to whine in the forums but thats 400 bones that could have gone to a cat-back...

Ron, where on the order website does it tell me to check a VIN or build date? Correct me if I am wrong but I don't remember seeing that. The problem is those of us new to your products wouldn't know to check these so we get hammered on the back end of the deal.

I hear good things about your product but "we are going to be a few months" is the same answer given back in June. How about something a bit more solid.

We're excited about using the tuner but a progress update or estimated eta once in a while would be great.

Throw us a bone here.

So how do I know if my car is ok with it? Can I check what version I have in my EVIC? My car is 06/06.

my build is 5/06

I doubt your charger will work with the SC at this time, but then again, i dont know if having the daytona makes a difference or not

VanAwesome has a R/T w/R&T and SC dont work with his, i believe he is same build or a month later then mine"dont qoute me on that though" ;)

That's not very confidence-inspiring. One more reason I'm leaving mine stock under the hood.

Whaa? Is it just me or does this post make little sense. Anyway, you guys told me it would be done by end of summer...... summer... is near it's end now. I hope it's not gonna be a few more months.. I always look at my superchips and just wonder what things could be like.. in a world where it worked for my car.

Sigh.

Get a Stage II Jet-Chip! I have tried BOTH, and the Jet Chip is better!

^^^ Not sure what he is saying here. ^^^

1) SC doesn't have a clue on why it isn't working, but it should be. So they don't know if it will work on your build date or not.

or

2) The site warns you about it, use at your own risk, but will get it working eventually, so hang on to it?

I was reading through the topics to see if anyone has opinions on superchips or hypertech and now reading this I am a concerned about superchips. I'll have to go find my build date to see if the superchips will even work with my Charger, but I'm guessing since I bought it in 04/06 it has a build date somewhere around Jan or Feb of 2006.

Anyways, I won't hijack this thread, I'll post a new one with my question on hypertec or superchips.

The price increase on the RTs usually signifies a change in the cars. The last price increase was in March or April 2006. That could be when they updated the software. Base price for RTs increased to $29,720. The only difference that I noticed back then were that the rubber stoppers for the trunk lid were already rotated from the factory.

Call Superchips and get an ETA for the new 07. This is a great mod and you'll love it once it gets tuned!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people bash a product because a few models are left out of a new offering on hop-up items! Getting the information needed to produce a new product for a new vehicle platform is not easy.Stock ecu programming is proprietary information and is very hard to get, let alone when the manufacturer changes the programming mid production. Now the research must start all over then the development begins after the research is complete. Development is a long process and one of the most important goals is to best improve the software to please exagarated expectations from customers who know little about how engine management systems function and just how easy it would be to make a mistake and destroy a modern day engine with lots of aluminum in it.
I applaud Superchips for being one of if not the best producer of software updates for late model vehicles.I only hopes Superchips remains profitable enough to stay in business so I don't have to start buying from the other guys.I will wait as long as it takes because I have tried and sold all of the other brands, and having the use of a dyno, know that no one compares when it comes to maintaining all around drive-abilty while squeezing out as much usable horsepower and torque as possible without melting pistons, and no one else stands behind their product like Superchips.
