fellas, I work at a Chrysler dealership here in AZ, ( won't mention name out of respect of your thread) and we found the next hot mod... oil and power steering fluid coolers from the police package!!! already ordered one for an avid modder( oil cooler)... I'm sure you guys can get the part# so you can set up the fine folks on the forums... if you plan on racing your LX this will be a must have... customer ran vehicle at willow and experienced oil temps at 280 degrees, pegged his oil temp guage...a Porsche enthusiast told him they shut down if oil temps get that high... ball in your court MSC!!!

Is this just for the 5.7, or also SRT, I thought SRT already had them, is that correct?

The oil cooler appears to be an easy mod to do.
A cooler, and 2 radiator hoses.

We are checking out the power steering cooler now as well.

So is part 4 the cooler? Also needed would be the two t-fittings for the radiator hoses?

I thought we already had this, but I could be wrong. Does the SRT ship with this already installed?

Jeff? Echo the SRT-8 owners comments, but another one also. Is that the same unit as the SRT-4? Design is similar, from the drawing, anyway.

This may be only for the 5.7, the 6.1 may already have it.
The t-fitting is part of the hose assembly, and yes #4 is the cooler.

The power steering cooler doesn't look to be that bad of a modification either.

We will get all the part numbers and pricing information for those who may be interested.

Just checked mine, the SRT does NOT, I repeat NOT, have the oil cooler. I'm pretty sure we do have the P/S cooler though.

MPSC? Prices on the units?

...

We are checking out the power steering cooler now as well. It's a little more complex than that, Ted.

I'm the ultra-modder, or however ChargerShed introduced me. I've been chasing this mod hard for 6 weeks and only today cracked the last nut, with the help of our very capable parts manager.

The illustration is misleading. One would think, based on it, that we simply need the cooler, item 4, the new lower radiator hose with imbedded "Y" fitting, with attached 5/8" ID hose to run coolant through the oil cooler, and the upper radiator hose with imbedded "T" fitting. Not so.

Draw a big red X through item 1, and replace it with a new thermostat housing, very similar to our existing, but with a 5/8" OD metal pipe welded into its lower surface. The small return line that presently ends at the red Xed hose simply plugs into this small pipe T'd off of the tstat housing.

We only late today got the PN for that special tstat housing. None are availble, but one is now being produced for yours truly. I'll have it in two weeks, whereupon the pile of parts that will then be 2 months old can finally be installed on my sweet C, both the world's fastest LX at 176 mph, and also the world's quickest NA 5.7L LX at 13.423@104.091 (DA 3100').

Once installed and verified as perfect, I'll post up the complete parts list for everyone. In the meantime I'll be glad to help in any way I can.

You'll usually find me on 300CForums.com and LXForums.com, but I'll be on 9-day road trip come Sunday. Initially for Mods Face Off (MFO5) in Sacramento, then for some additional track time at Willow Springs (I know it's a lousy schedule fellas, but somebody's got to do it ;)). So my board time will be sparse for the next 10 days or so.

...quickest NA 5.7L LX at 13.423@104.091 (DA 3100').

He's got a 12.97 now, btw (at 1250' - not sure of the trap speed or DA)

MattRobertson over at LXforums has been working with Meister and others, along with Bob up at SVS in Sacto where we do the GIFO/MoFO stuff, to work out all the details of an entire cooler package - Oil, Tranny, and Power Steering. Pretty interesting reading here. (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=52184)

Well gang - it's Murphy at his finest: After many months of waiting on the factory part, giving up on it and going another route, what should show up at the dealership immediately upon my return from getting the alternate cooling install?

Yup! You guessed it - the long-absent modified tstat housing (see pic #1).

The package is now complete, and a nice-looking package it is (see pic #2).

The complete parts list is seen in pic #3.

Erik (chargershed) has inherited my parts pile, and will have them installed on Wednesday. If all goes to plan I'll be there to photograph the process.

Total parts run $220 (oil cooler mod only), and it's a great setup for the money.

Here are those part numbers:

53022168-AA HOUSING THERMOSTAT 7043001
4596561-AC HOSE RADIATOR 7014005
4596562-AC HOSE RADIATOR 7014005
503752 3-AA COOLER ENGINE OIL 7011005

Expect the radiator to be working harder, as engine coolant is the cooling medium for the oil cooler. A fan mod will be required for optimum benefit.

Yet another long-anticipated enhancement for the LX Hemis nears completion.

Life is good. :)

Yepper, that was the missing link. The T-Stat housing was exactly what we needed.

We are putting together a kit to add to our web site. The kit retail price is $176.85, our price will be $127.06 plus shiping.

Let us know when that is up on your website. That's a good price.

Dont bother on the power steering unit, the SRT one is better than the police unit to begin with, its a three row as opposed to the single row the police units share with the 5.7 cars.

Has anyone done a detailed write-up of this with pics?

Looks loke a COOL set up.

Another thought, has anyone done a air to oil cooler mounted like the P/S cooler (and simular in appearance)

A question about the mounting.... Does the oil to water exchanger unit go between the filter and the block?

i dont know alot about oil coolers, so what are the real benifits of doing this mod? just keep oil temps down on the motor which = better for the motor? somebody said on pg 2 of this thread that if u do this mod only w/o the fan mod it will make the radiator work harder. i live in FL where the temps get well over 100 degrees so u think i should do this mod? later on in the future i will be upgrading the heads & cam......opinions please??????

These engines loose a lot of power when they get hot so anything you could do to keep it cooler helps.I have this cooler installed on my car and the oil stays a little cooler seems to be 10 to 20 degrees at times and takes a little longer to get there but I also have a trans cooler too which runs as a stand alone cooler and does not run and trans fluid through the condenser. I will be getting a fan mod soon but right now when I go to the track I use the 25 cent fan mod. Noesp is commong out with a great easy to install and affordable fan mod soon

The benifit is that it's like putting in a 180 degree thermostat without changing the thermostat. Lowered the temp on my car by 10-15 degrees. Now I need Jeff and the boys to come up with the parts for the tranny cooler.

I am not quite sure how many of you would want to do this. You have to replace the condenser and the tranny cooler together as they are one unit. If this is something you guys want to do let me know and I will look further into this.
