View Full Version : Headlamp and Seat problems

Wondering if anyone has had any of the same problems I am having. Charger SE 3.5. I've had the car for about a month and a half and it has 2000 miles on it. A week ago after a heavy rain it became humid and I noticed my driver side headlamp fogged up on the inside almost completely. Then a few days later the passenger side lamp did the same thing. Also I have a bad squeak in the lumbar supports on both the driver and passenger side seats. Took the car to the dealer today and they replaced both lamps with new ones and attempted to fix the squeak in the seats but the passenger side is still making the noise. They said some padding had fallen out of place and that they had to lube it up real good. Anyway I drive the car through some rain and when I get home one of the new lamps has a little moisture in it already.
So now I am back where I started still a bad headlamp and one seat still squeaking everytime you move or make a turn. Just wondering if anyone else has had these problems. Just seems very unusual that I would get three headlamps in a row that were faulty if it were not a problem more people were having.

I Have The Exact Same Problem With My Driver's Side Headlamp (not The Passenger Side). The Service Dept. Said They Are Ordering A New Headlamp, Which Of Course Is On Backorder.

I had the driver's side headlight problem as well. They ordered one for me and replaced it the following weekend. Sounds like they have some quality control issues to deal with at the head light factory.

Nope they must return the old one . Something about the warranty.

The passenger side on mine was fogged they replaced it without a problem.

Lumbar support works fine, until you use it.

I'd be back at the dealer as fast as you can imagine. Well, I'd wait until they were open. I'm not sitting out there all night. It's getting cold!

nCHARGE...I have seen this on my headlights...soon after you turn your lights on this small amount of fog in the lens will go away...I do not think this is a problem..now if you are getting water in them that settles down on the bottom now that is a problem...

Yeah, I should complain about the squeak. However, I don't feel like leaving my car for a full day at the dealer.

Ive had the fogging problem myself. Hasnt rained since I bought the car, but have had it washed and it fogs up each time. Sometimes fogs on humid nights, but doesnt seem to bother the lights at all.

I dont think Ill take it in unless I need something else done also.

Here's the thing though... if you leave it, dont you think over time its gonna "tinge" the chrome and the whole inside of the housing?

You may be right. The rings around the lights I believe are just plastic so I do not think they will pit or change color. Now the light covers may start to ting or turn yellow like you see most MB and Cadillac. These light covers are very expensive. A guy in my office replaced the covers on his sons Cadillac and it cost him almost $700.00. I would also think this would be covered on the Warranty because it is a defect.

Passenger side headlamp fogged up. Covered about 1/3 the lens on the inside. Took it to the dealer and the service writer said "we'll see if Dodge approves it." YEAH, right.

Went to the dealer today. Dodge said they weren't going to replace the headlight for some obscure reason. I am currently having problems with the seatbelt sensor on the passenger side. The dash light keeps blinking and the chimes sound the entire time someone's in the seat. Dealer put the StarScan on it and couldn't find anything. Current thinking is that the seat sensor is bad. Return visit required.

No water just fogged (about 1/3 of the headlight). Maybe they're having an epidemic and they want to stem the tide ??

This is the reason I'm scared of buying my Charger from out of town.. The service writter just giving you a bunch of crap.. At least if I bought it from the servicing dealership, I could yell and tell them I'll never buy another car from them.. :)

I just noticed the same thing on my driver's side headlamp about four days ago...and it has gotten worse. I called the dealer on Saturday to see if anyone was around for me to bring the car in to, and they said "not until Monday." However, they also stated that they will "take care of their customer" and deal w/ the Chrysler warranty themselves, so I need not worry @ them not taking my word for it if the evidence is still not around on Monday. He also said that the only concern is that Chrysler will examine the "defective" part to see if it really is defective, and if it isn't, then the dealer gets charged for the part, and not Chrysler...but that should not affect them taking care of my issue. I hope...

One question. 5w20 regular or synthetic?

Just a quick update...

Took it in yesterday to have the headlamp replaced. Dealership gave me zero hassle and had it swapped out in an hour. Then they told me that they believed the moisture was getting in from where the bulb enters the unit, it wasn't seating properly. First time I've heard that a bulb would not stay locked in place, or would not seal correctly, but whatever it takes. Seems to be fixed now. More than happy!!!

I originally started this post and thought I would update everyone.
Dealer I bought the car from took care of the headlamp problems with no problem. The dealer is about 100 miles from where I live and they only had one of the headlamps in when I went in for service so they pulled one off of a new charger on the lot and put in on mine so I would not have to wait for the new one to come in and make another 100 mile trip. They also fixed the driver side seat as explained in a earlier post. Been more than happy with the dealer I bought it from and their service. Main reason I went so far away because my dodge dealers around me won't work with you at all. They wanted 2000 dollars more for the charger that did not have as many options as I got on the one I bought.

I had the same thought so I asked the service writer about it. He said that if you go synthetic your check engine light will come on. Something about the viscosity of the oil. Might wanna check that out. I didn't half believe him anyway after the headlight fiasco..........

I've had my Daytona for a week and it rained hard yesterday all day. I wokeup this morning to find the right headlamp full of moisture. I went straight to the dealership that I bought the car from. They said that today(11-17-05) they had over 20 people come in with complaints about the headlamps fogging up. Dodge released a bulletin stating that "unless the lamp is cracked or broken there is no need to replace it and that the fogging up is just normal. Once you put your headlights on, the fog will clear up".
It might be normal for this to happen but still I think it looks terrible to have your headlamps fogged up like this while driving.

Well I'm off to another dealership in the morning to see what BS story they give me about why it is normal for my headlamp to fill up with moisture. Oh yeah, a twist in the whole story came yesterday and again this morning while on my way to the car wash.......... I work for a toll road in NJ and I see state troopers all day long hanging around in the parking lot where everyone parks their cars. After work I'm walking towards my car and a trooper who is sitting in his car inches his way over towards me. He askes me if I know my front right headlamp is full of moisture. I told him I did and I've been to Dodge with the problem and they don't want to do anything about it and how they say it's normal. He tells me it is illegal to leave it like that and it won't pass inspection like that. This morning, I'm on my way to the car wash to wash my car when I get to a traffic light. Sitting at the light, ahead I notice a town cop had just pulled over the local kid with his rice burner who thinks he's hot sh*t. The cop waves me over to the side, walks up to me and tells me that my front right headlight is fogged. I told him everything I told the state trooper lastnight at work. The jerkoff cop tells me to "get it fixed and consider this my first and only warning. Next time I see you in town and it's still like that, I'm not going to let you go."  :fuming: Hmmmm, I wonder if calling the local TV news(Problem Solvers) in the New York City area would put pressure on Dodge to fix the cars with these problems?

If these leaks are from around the light bulb connection hole .. can we put a sealant around that to take care of it?

For everyone getting these replaced .. if you have Rockblockers .. can you take them off and reinstall them on the new light assembly?

Just an update on my right headlight fogging up.............
I went to the dealer this morning around 12 noon, pulled into the garage at the dealers service department and I felt like a movie star the way everyone gathered around my car. One salesman who was walking through the service department at the time told me that the Daytona is such a hot car that they couldn't keep any in stock. As soon as they'd get one in, it'd be sold within a day. Now about my headlight..............I pulled in like I said and not even a minute after I pulled in the garage, another guy pulled in (a Charger R/T) who had the same exact problem. The dealer replaced it without giving me any problems. They said if it's got ANY moisture, inside, it has to be replaced. It was replaced in about an hour or so since the front bumper had to come off to replace the lamp.

Today I finally got my seatbelt chimes fixed. After more than 45 days with this problem it has been solved. Bad sensing mechanism in passenger buckle was causing the problem. New buckle installed. Everything is now working again....

I also have the problem with the fogged headlights. Noticed it on the lot, guess I didn't realise it was a problem. Seems we need to get together and pressure DMC to get this right, especially if its illegal ! Don't care to waste my time taking car in, just to have happen again.

Let them give you a fix-it ticket for the light, then take the ticket into the dealership, and tell them to fix your light so you can get the ticket signed off. If they refuse to fix it, get them to sign a letter attesting to the fact that this is "normal". I bet they fix your headlight after that. If they don't just bring your service receipt to the court and show the judge the part where the service writer put in the comments that it is a "normal" operating condition.

Since I don't have the Charger yet, do you guys notice that the headlight fogging goes away when the headlamps are on? If it does then that cop is wrong in citing you anyways.
