As you may have noticed, we have just recently completed an upgrade to the newest software available to us. It has added some new features so hopefully your stay here will be more enjoyable.

If you notice any problems or any features that are missing or broken, please post in this thread.

We also have a request from all members to please re-review the rules. This place has been slowly deteriorating. I am talking about disrespectful posts (to both members, and moderators/administrators), lots of thread crapping and just out and out unecessary behaviour.

Please try to treat everyone here as you would treat them in real life. Not as if you are on a forum on the internet and that you could care less what they think about you. Just use a little common sense, and display some common courtesy.

We will be enforcing our rules much more strict from now on, so consider this your warning!

Update: The signature system has also been modified. You may not link to external signature images. You have to upload the signature image in the User CP, and it must meet our size requirements. This will prevent users from having ginormous signature images which break the layout of the site, and make it impossible for modem users to enjoy the site.

Being that modem users can turn off signatures, I think 100 pixels high is a little too hard to work with. If the width is limited to 500 then a height of 300 or 400 would be a lot more fitting for most digital camera pictures.

My first thought was, "You gotta put a limit somewhere, what's the diff?" But, if you keep the file size limit in place, I think your suggestion is good. A little more real estate won't hurt if the filesize is kept down.

Great. Now, I know that i have nothing to do with rules, but I can suggest stuff though. I totally have a BIG problem with SIGNATURES. This whole "mini-sig" stuff is already killing me. I am on dial-up, and have hardly had ANY problems with anybody's signatures. If and when I do, I switch to archive mod, which is the whole point of it. But, again, who the hell am I to tell you whats right and whats wrong, right? ;)

Well, your talking about another very real limit. Users who run 800x600 or less screen resolutions.. of which, over 15% of our users do.

Again guys, we put these rules in place not to piss people off, but to make browsing the site as appealing as possible to as large a userbase as possible.

I realize some of us out there who run high resolutions think 500 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall is small (I run 1920x1200 myself) -- but there are alot of users out there who previously had to scroll a whole screen just because of someones sig image.

I agree with not enjoying overly large sigs. But when you take an image that is say 1200 pixels x 1600 pixels and resize it you end up with 100 x 133 which is too small. 1 x 5 is an awkward ratio to work with is my point.

As a web developer, I completely understand that. Heck, as a web surfer I get it. I guess we're just saying that the new size is kind of a shock to the system. How about 200 pixels high? :nervous s

If we go larger on the sig images, we'll need to crack down more on the amount of text included... so you guys/gals need to factor that in as well.
Tall, spaced out lists of mods are just as annoying as large sig pics - put them together and it's double trouble. Some we have seen take up as much screen space as several posts combined.

The separate thread dedicated to your car, with a list of all your mods is a great way to minimize the sig and maximize the benefit, you can make the post in your thread as long as you want it to be. That's what I did at 300cforums (http://www.300cforums.com/forums/members/hemeee.html) - I just update my mods list as needed.... Food for thought :)

Just want to give a shout out to all the mods on the site. Thank you for all the work getting the new features up. I personally love the image size requirement on the sig. After all, it's just a signature - not a picture post of your car. Having large signatures takes away from the information sharing on the site and breaks up the reading. btw - i run my screens at 1280x768 on one and the other is 1600x1200.

Thanks for the upgrade and for tightening up on the posting rules. I have seen a lot of useless mess in some of these threads. Some threads fade so far away from the original post that it gets crazy. It would also be great to control the profanity usage. Your comments kinda got buried with all the activity and I didn't want anyone to feel they were ignored or overlooked.

We agree... the hijacking and thread crapping had gotten completely out of control and cannot continue, especially in legitimate Charger-topic threads. I also want to add, up front, that we will adopt a zero-tolerance stand against this in the "New Member" forum. As our V6 Moderator, spoonerock, stated so well before even HIS thread was hijacked and direspectfully crapped on, THINK before you click submit!

As for profanity, Smilies are every bit as effective in expressing emotion in posts, that's what they're there for, and they are a lot less shocking or offensive. Some language filters were recently put in place, but if members see offensive words that are getting through (without symbol substitutes), please send me a PM and we'll review whether that term needs to be filtered. The use of profanity is now addressed in the rules and users that consistently bypass the filters by substituting with symbols are essentially "bypassing" the rules. A caution, or an infraction, may result if staff finds it excessive and/or malicious. We would appreciate not being put in that position.

And before it starts again, we are over the criticism, and verbal attacks, on members that have expressed their views on these issues, save your buzz words like "PC", or catchphrases like "it's just words on a screen - get over it - toughen up" etc. This is a community and like any community we must ALL compomise. It's not about who's right and who's wrong, or who wins and who loses; it's about meeting in the middle, which makes everyone a winner, makes the site more desireable for a broader spectrum of users, and encourages new members to join and contribute to the ultimate mission of the site in the first place, which is to be the best Charger resource on the internet. Call me a hopeless optimist, but wouldn't it be great if it was also the friendliest, most fun, and one we can ALL be proud of?

We will hold steadfast to the mission, members that are not in agreement with our goal are encouraged to find a board that better suits their needs rather than create disruptions here...

Our hope is that everyone will choose to stay, enjoy and contribute to the mission!

There might be a small delay between when your post shows up in "New Posts" due to the way the database keeps track of sessions and posts you've viewed, etc.

Active Topics doesnt use the same method as new posts. So, you can do that, or you can use "Subscribed Threads" under the quick links and get the same behaviour.

Ekool,

Could you please increase the maximum signature height? This is a car enthusiasts forum and 100px heigh signatures just doesn't work out too well for signatures with cars as their main focus, as cars have a higher height than anything else. Is there any chance you could increase it to 500x150 or 500x200?

Update: The signature system has also been modified. You may not link to external signature images. You have to upload the signature image in the User CP, and it must meet our size requirements. This will prevent users from having ginormous signature images which break the layout of the site, and make it impossible for modem users to enjoy the site.

No offense, but some of these rules are silly and non productive to the forum.
First, why should you care what kind of photos we post? You are punishing me for having a fast connection? Think about it, all Modem users have the option to turn off pics when they visit (we can turn pics on and off in the control panel). So do that rather than stop me from posting picks.

Second, having us upload pics on to your server...that is what slows down forums. I should know, I have a forum with almost 50,000 registered members. You are going to suffer badly and so will the rest of us when this forum gets big because of uploaded stuff on the server. Let us use remote URL.... you are only going to kill the forum by allowing us to upload pics on to the server. That is by far the worse way to allow avtars and pics. Wait until the forum keeps crashing...than you'll understand. Don't bog the system down with uploaded stuff to the server. Remote URLs won't bog the server down and any one with a slow connection can just turn off pics in the control panel.

And before you stomp on us for the forum Deteriorating.... you should be thankful and not complaining. This forum is FAR from deteriorating.

We can all turn off pics in our control panel. I don't understand why they want us to upload pics and not use Remote URLs. The best way to kill a forum for speed is to allow Pic Uploads. We should be on the URL system, not the upload system. Well, when this forum gets big.... they will learn the hard way.

I have broadband but I do not enjoy overly large signatures. I think 500x100 pixels is more then enough.

100 pixels? C'mon man...be fair at least. 100 pixels is so small. Just turn off the Sig files. Allow us the simple pleasure of pictures. It will only help the forum grow. but hey, if you concern is Modem peeps...then you are taking care of a dying breed over the future. Also, you are slowing down forum by making people upload pics. If the pics are going up on the same server hosting this Forum...then you are killing us and the speed of this forum will continute to decline as pics go up and are utilized in threads.

Sorry, but I disagree with you. A user should be able to enjoy signatures even if they are on a modem. And, its not just size thats the issue... I'm on a fast connection and I hate looking at large signature images. So, from what I can tell you seem to think your "need" or "right" to upload whatever signature pic you want should override my ability to enjoy the forum.

I dont think so.

I also have a forum with almost 50,000 registered members. Its called SRTforums.com (BTW, which forum do you run that has 50,000 members) -- so I believe I know a thing or two about scalability. There is no way for us to limit signature size unless we keep the file local, so thats what we have to do.

I'm sorry, but some BAD APPLES spoiled it for the WHOLE BUNCH because they would NOT limit their signature sizes to something REASONABLE so we had to implement this.

And before you stomp on us for the forum Deteriorating.... you should be thankful and not complaining. This forum is FAR from deteriorating.

The forum had taken a nasty turn for the worse lately. I wasnt the only one who saw it, other users in here posted about it as well. So, no, I wont be "thankful and not complaining" -- I will do what is best for this site and nip some junk in the bud before it gets out of control.

Unfortunetly Ekool will never be able to please ALL members, but he has done the right thing in putting his foot down to ensure that the majority is happy....

I applaude Ekool for finally setting the rules in concrete....

I must admit that my sig picture was a little large, but not like some I have seen........

I enjoy the reading material, the fun members and the ideas that they share with all of us.......

I belong to another forum (locally) that has even tighter rules than this forum. It is for the BEST of all of us that they are in place.... Keeps things fun and enjoyable for ALL....

Thanks Ekool and staff for all that you have done here.

The "turn for the worse" that spoon got upset about was a kid/troll. Most of the negative stuff around here is caused kids/trolls, not the regulars. It was not "kids/trolls" that were hijacking and thread-crapping serious threads that are not in off-topic, making personal attacks, and treating members and staff disrespectfully... it was more often senior well-known and well-thought of members. It was becoming a full-time job trying to handle individual situations via PM. The most effective way to get things back on track was to set site policies so everyone is clear about the expectations, display them prominently, and hope that everyone will understand that we are doing what is best for the site and its membership as a whole.

Please don't misunderstand, these changes are not the result of any single situation, but rather a cumulative effect of many over a period of time. All of these changes were going to take place with the next software upgrade anyway and the situation with spoon was just one of several recent catalysts that made us expedite the changes ahead of schedule.

Yup, 600X200 would be user friendly as well. Just keep the KB limit the same, which would mean hardly ANY animations and only gifs litterly ;) good point a14!

I don't really understand all the complaints and size restrictions. Grant it, its not my board to run and I totally respect the owners and those who maintain this forum...so I am just offering my opinions... but I have a Sport Forum (not a car forum in any way) close to 50,000 members...at any given time there are 1000 active members using it. I have no restrictions on Sig files, pics.... I certainly do not allow Avtar and Pic uploads on my server (just remote URLS)...that is what will kill it for everyone...even if we all have Broadband. I have yet to hear complaints from modem users and anyone for that matter that there are too many pics and huge sig files. Personally, I know really well what makes a successful forum. Restricting people's pics, in my honest opinion won't help.

We should really be able to post remote URL's for pics and Avtars. The size restriction shouldn't be a problem really (Avtars should have some size restriction...but not Sig files.). Especially since you guys have it set up that a sig file only shows up once in a thread.... I don't do that at my forum either. Making too many restrictions turns people off.

But seriously...I am just offering my opinions.

Humm isnt the point to a BCC so the reciver dosent see who else got a copy ?

I am all for the sig limit, its was getting way out of hand. The forum I ran we didnt allow avatar but we allowed sig images, So people put an avatar in thier sigs, then it was gun pictures then it was a team picture and it just got to the point that the sig were 4 o 5 times more room than anything actually discussed in the thread.

Also turning off sigs after 1 post was a good call as well. IMHO

Judos eKool and the gang. I hope the Charger forums HaterAde starts to go away, it was getting tedious just to look at new threads.

A couple usability changes I've noticed since the upgrade:

1 - the little "down arrow" icon next to the thread title that takes you to the first unread post is harder to click now due to it being quite a bit smaller.

2 - clicking "New Posts" no longer shows all posts since your last visit but instead shows only unread posts since your last visit. Sometimes this is a problem if you want to research an issue then go back later to post your reply but nobody else has posted to that thread since you viewed it. Now you have to go track down that thread or do a search for it.

I just tested and got the error with "quick reply" as well, but there is no issue with the "add reply" button which is below the last post and essentially the same thing... post w/o quote.

As for the "New Posts" issue... elcobra44 is correct, these threads remain "new" until you open them, or until you click the "Mark Forums Read" button in "Quick Links". You don't see your own new post there because it is not "new" to you... You opened the thread to post there.

"Active Topics" works differently in that it consists of the 50 threads most recently posted in and you WILL find your post there... at least until the thread rolls down the list and is no longer in the top 50.

I hope that helps ;)

Maybe i'm not explaining myself right. Okay in a forum lets say Exterior mods. All threads that had a post in it since my last visit had a distinctive icon next to it on the left. Now every thread has the same icon no matter what time it was posted, so the only way to see which thread has new posts is to check the time stamps.

Also, I don't think the "Quick Links" on the bottom of the page is working properly..

It works for me?I also found that all the links on the bottom Nav bar work EXCEPT 'Quick Links'...

Edit: It seems to refresh the page then the 'button' changes to "Open Buddy List" and the "search" button becomes "Mark Forums Read" ... if that helps??
These changes take place on both the upper and lower Nav bars...

Why do some threads automatically subscribe me even though I don't have it set that way in the OPTIONS tab? I have it set to do not subscribe but sometimes I am subscribed.
