$43K is a bargain for this vehicle compared to others in it's class. (and there's not too many that fit into the SRT-8's class!)
Comparable Mercedes or BMW would be in the $60K - $70 range.

indeed
thus me being a srt8 fan. this thing throws out just as much power as the amg benz's. goin for the more expensive AMG's i would have to throw in a right lung along with the kidney :\
my only concern is the availability of these beasts. i think one would have to order out of state to get one asap if not waiting in ordering line for one to come off fresh from assembly line

They'll give you 40kUS in Peru. It's legal and you only stay overnight.
BTW, saw a special, not by experience.

Availability is an issue. The SRT-8s are on allocation and, from what I hear, they will only be making about 5,000 of them in the '06 model year. That means that each SRT-authorized Dodge dealer will only receive 1 or 2 on their initial allocation. Most of those are probably already spoken for.
My dealer went ahead and put in another order for me (in addition to the the initial allocation one I already have a deposit down on) and DC still has it in BX status. Very doubtful that any orders above initial allocation will be accepted until they produce the first batch.
So yes, if you haven't already put down a deposit with your dealer on one from their initial allocation, then you'll probably have to wait awhile to get one that would be ordered now.

I'm sure someone with "inside connects" will get #1. But from what I've heard, no SRT-8s will be shipped to the dealers for resale until they have a good quantity already built.
They will go into "storage" until they can stage shipping to many dealers all at once. Dealer said this was "standard practice" on vehicles like the Charger SRT-8 to discourage "price gouging" from dealers that would receive them well before any others based on shipping proximity to assembly plant, etc.
It's all political anyway... just want mine ASAP!!

As usual moparfan, you are a wealth of knowledge. I know we're all anxious to get are hands on our SRT-8's, does the proceedures you outline mean that an order put in for one in September probably means a delivery time of more than 3 months? Say it ain't so!
BA status as of 9/13

What Moparfan isn't revealing to you, is his father is a bigwig at DC, and he's been driving his SRT8 for 2 months now. He just want's us to feel better about the situation. :) JK!!!!!

Hey man... I am no expert by any means... just telling you what I've learned by talking to the Order Processor at the dealer and the reps at DC. (I ask a lot of questions!)
I don't think anyone can tell you for sure how long it will take to get your car delivered. From what I've been told, until it comes off the line, there is no set delivery date.
When I put my deposit down (9/10) on one of the 2 they ordered in the initial allocation, the dealer told me "mid to late November delivery"... but they also said "that is subject to change at any time".
All I do know is that every dealer around here has already had their initial allocation "spoken for". They have all said "we'll order you one", but they also said "it will come in well after the initial allocation". So for what it's worth... that could mean 6 - 8 months from now!

Hell, I was willing to fly to Canada and drive an SRT-8 back to Tampa if that dealer up there would sell the one on the lot. (my avatar pic)

Can we all say it together... Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!
Seriously, she thinks I should go to the doctor and get something prescribed for my obsession with this freakin car.
She's probably right.

Moparfan....I think this would make an excellent subject for Dr. Phil to tackle. And since I don't particularly care for doctors, (all those cold metal instruments give me the chills!), I think we obsessive compulsives need a humble charger srt-8 fanatic, like yourself, to put a human face on our lonely suffering and let the would know that " We are not animals but..... HUMAN BEINGS!!!!"
As far as prescription drug therapy.....I dont' think they'll ever find a cure for what ails US!

See, I have lived what you guys are going through right now 2 years ago. It most assuredly does NOT help. I still obssess over my currnet SRT vehicle like I did the day I brought her home.
To the point of putting off the new one for 9 months just to keep it. Face it guys, your all doomed. Doomed, doomed, I tell you.......

Well, when I ordered mine the dealer at first said I'd have to put $5000.00 down. I then told them that I would be using my 05 Magnum R/T as a trade and that I would be writing a check for the difference. They changed there tune real fast, ordered the SRT-8 as a purchased vehicle. No money down. I suspect i'm looking out of pocket somewhere in the 30's when all is said and done.
Hell!..I don't give a fat rats ass what the sombitch costs...I WILL HAVE IT!!!

I suppose you're right. They know that the demand will be there eventually and they hope to play the buyer like a cheap two-dollar fiddle. (Play me baby, as long as I get one!) I guess it's the law of supply and demand. But considering that the SRT-8 really has NO competition at its price-point (39-45k) and it begins to look like a good deal, IMHO.
Now.. as for the reach around... The've got this receptionist thats the female equivalent of an SRT-8 and I would LOVE to take a RIDE  (OH sh*t!.. don't let my wife read this)

I agree that there's nothing out there for this price range. You've gotta look at the $60k+ cars to compare with performance. I think GLHS says alot that paying sticker for this is a good deal. I agree totally, but if somebody offers an SRT for less than sticker, it will disappear quickly.

It is probably adding the destination charge and the gas guzzler tax - that is almost $3,000 together before you add an option.
The SRT8 has several competitiors but they are not direct competitors like the old days of Mustang-Camaro.
The GTO is very similar in performance and less expensive but smaller.
The Mustang GT500 will probably be faster and smaller.
The CTS-V is about the same performance, comes with a stick, but is more expensive.
Some people may also cross-shop with smaller, slightly less powerful imports like the new Lexus IS. It has been clocked anywhere between 13.6 and 14.2 in the 1/4 mile.
Nowadays no car is completely without comp

Im really looken to get onto this car as soon as the next 06 hits the lot over at Stoneridge Chrysler in Dublin CA.....I baught 2 PT's there...one plain jane that I did a bunch of mods to and my wife's Limited with the stock goodies...along with some mods of my own. Think the wifes PT is going to be the trade in car....keeping my PT and going to upgrade to the Charger monster......Im 51...had the orig 69 Z-28...loved it...sold it for nothing back in the early 80's...and now out here in N Cal they go for mid 30's and up for a nice one....OH well. So now you know I have the need for speed...and my justification for this to the wife....."aw honey ...it has 4 doors.....and power to climb the hills out here better than the PT". I would like to see the charger on the American Le Mans series going against the new V-Cadi....Now we're talken......
Nice to be on this forum.....and look forward to being a SRT-8 owner soon

This attitude is my problem too. That's why I stay home and send the wife out to buy the car. I just tell her what I want and she spends a day bouncing around town grinding down the dealers.
