View Full Version : 426cu 7.0L Stroker for the 6.1L: Power Ported Performance delivers the Real Deal
Power Ported Performance

Did someone say 426? It's already been done for almost a month...
Representing and on behalf of Indy Heads, Power Ported Performance is proud to re-announce via the web in conjunction with Indy Heads, our modern Mopar Stroker Kit line for the 5.7L and 6.1L engines. As many saw at the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, OH this last weekend, we debuted our Modern Mopar Stroker Kit lines for the 5.7L and the 6.1L engines. I.e., the 392cu from the 5.7L and the 426cu from the 6.1L engine blocks.
The 426cu is making incredible power and even more incredible torque and these number are currently without modifying the ignition at all. Straight power!
Initial numbers are producing 560HP and 600lbs of Torque. Can you say Torque Monster!
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/897/42661dynoruniy3.jpg
I am sure there are many pictures floating around of the engines at the Mopar Nationals, but unfortunately, we were so busy, we didn't even get a chance to take any ourselves. Here is a picture of the engine on the Dyno.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/982/426hemi61iu7.jpg
And for those who want to see a little video of it... I only got a few seconds of it running. Still very cool!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuQnCPLQ-ig
This is the real deal. As you've seen before, we only talk about it when its done. Stay tuned for more details on the kits, pricing and availability over the next couple of weeks.
Best Regards,
Jeremy Steinman

What are you using for tuning puposes? It would stand to reason that this would be pointless without a real tuning program.

Very nice Kelly and team.....
Great to see those numbers. :)
Are those CHP or RWHP? I am thinking Crank HP..........
Congrats.
that low end torque is simply amazing
how do you put one of these in and manage the electronics?
What about the tranny, torque converter. Is there a plan for these? Can they manage that torque level?

I think this is Jeremy's and Indy Head's venture - not Kelly and team at HEAT.
Very nice though - I'd love to see the 392 numbers...... Show the masses some love :)

These number will be up soon. We have about another week with the 426cu on the Dyno as we go over a few kit options for older and newer platforms. Then its the 392's turn. I will post up numbers as they are made. Stay tuned...

Jeremy - will this be a kit that needs to be installed by PPP, like the HEAT setup? The hardest part about all these cool parts coming out, is not being located where the guys that know how to install it are :(

MadC,
This is a great question. Thank you for asking it.
Although we are not in the business of doing installations, we have shops that we can trust with this kind of work located throughout the United States. For those interested in installation options, please PM me or call for additional details.

Not being as knowledgeable as some of the others here, what would need to be upgraded or modified, besides the engine, for a stock R/T for the 392 setup? I'm assuming this thing, based on the 426, will get high-400s CHP, maybe into the mid-500s for torque?
Just to have a theory on what this will cost...

We are approaching this from the longevity and durability side specifically. Performance is just as important as well, but our approach is to build with lasting Forged components, which take a little longer to line up, has more tolerance for when you want to get into it, and delivers solid strength to the build. Not saying anyone else is doing it differently, just saying that this is our approach.

Well here is a bit more of a tease for you, while the 5.7 Hemi Turbo pulls really strong and smooth across the powerband, this new engine is snap your neck off!
Freaking awesome!
After two passes up and down the local road, we went to take the 300C Hemi Turbo back out, and low and behold, there was a cruiser trolling around "looking". Someone must have been a little un-nerved by a few 100+ mph passes. It was nice to just drive by him in the nondescript Magnesium Pearl 300C rather than the flamed out SRT-8 that would have gotten us stopped. I guess he would not have believed that the C had just made a 110 mph pass as well!

I also wanted everyone to know that PPP's combo works like magic. I don't need any piggyback controller and ain't running "pig rich." Between his cam, injectors, and the B&G flash for the 426, I am running like a rocket.

What has your real-world mpg gone to? Not the computers reading, but how many miles do you get to a full tank of premium? I have often thought that more power in this car could result in less demand on the system, thereby resulting in higher MPG, even with more displacement.
Could you let a little light in?

We can achieve better mpg now than before, I do not however have any hard data available. Im sure someone will chime in with some.
The cost of the 426 shortblock is $5379 plus $1000 core charge. The best route is to purchase the shortblock, our stage 1 or stage 2 heads, and PPP cam of your choice. Going this route will cost approximately $7700. You would thn reuse your intake, purchase larger injectors, bg 426 flash, and 426 heads gaskets and your on your way. We are working on 426 longblock costs at this time.

426 shortblock, Stage 2 Heads, PPP Cam, 426 gaskets, larger injectors, 426 flash. That is pretty much everything needed for it to work. You would then need to use your engine as a donor for the parts missing. That cost would be.
$8999, plus $2500 in core charges that are refunded once we receive the old block and heads back.

Sorry to hijack you guys’ conversation but have you (PPP) experimented with any kind of dual throttle body intakes? Also does your 426 PPP package have a ported intake as well as ported heads?

I ran it last night once down in Tucson. It is at 3k feet elevation. I didn't pound it except for a few seconds to pass the guy I was racing, and then let off completely about 10 feet before the finish. I was told that if I went faster than 14, I was finished. I let off thinking I might be close to 14, and I really didn't want to push the motor too much. I was also racing a turbo something and kept hearing these big bangs from the turbo and would let up slightly each time the other guy shifted and popped thinking it was me. I ran a 12.96 at that elevation without really giving her the reigns. I was being really carefull as the motor is still very new. There was a lot of power left on the table that I will be able to tap it soon enough.

I had a helmet. They wanted a jacket which I did not have. They didn't tell me anything when I picked up my slip. I hadn't planned on running more than once or twice. The motor had only about 350 miles on it and I really didn't want to push it too much.

Right now, INDY is working on a conversion to put the 426 in a car with 5.7 components on top.

I will keep my ears open.
By the time they get the conversion worked out I might be interested in being the test car by then. I am not far either, 100 miles north in Columbus. :)

I believe they are looking for a test car right now. May want to contact Jeremy if you are interested. The 426 with INDY 5.7 heads, 5.7 intake, 6.1 cam made 505 crank hp.

PPP, I saw on your website that you have 3 different Stage packages. Can you tell us some general specs for each Stage? I'm looking for rwhp/torque, est gas mileage, and octace requirements. Thanks in advance.

This begs the question, does the SRT-8 426 retain correct functionality of the EVIC? If so, what sort of mileage numbers are you seeing from the 426 motor?
If I didnt use my SRT for a daily driver at 100miles/day, I wouldnt worry.....

Great question. We have actually found that the stroker motors get better gas mileage than stock. I average roughly 21-23 MPG on the freeway and 14-17 MPG in the city and about 6-10 MPG when I put my foot into it.
Our customers are seeing roughly the same results.
Thanks for asking and take a look around. There is plenty of great information.
Highest Regards,
Jeremy
