View Full Version : Zaino VS Formula 113

NYT

there have been many pretenders to the throne. the latest contender is Formula 113's one step cleaner wax and beadx detailer spray. they will be going head to head with zaino z-5 polish and z-6 spray.

i just ordered the one step cleaner and the spray. it will go head to head with the zaino i currently have in my garage.

in the end, there shall be only one!!!!

The results of this test will be one of the most anticipated events of this forum, make sure your test methods are "clean", or you'll never hear the end of it!!

cheating would be a waste of time imho. i would never "fuzz" the results to favor one or the other. i just want to do a little test. see first hand which product is better and write up a report with pics.

I tried Formula113 before going with Zaino. IMHO both are great products. Formula113 is easier and takes less time but Zaino gives better/longer lasting results.

Let me know what you find. I'll be interested to see if you agree with me.

the bad thing about formula 113 so far is that they take a lifetime to ship their products. i ordered at the time posted this thread and they just got the shipment charged on my credit card today. should arrive here by ups sometime next week. :smoke:

for the record, zaino shipped the day i ordered.

so far:

Zaino - 1

Formula 113 - 0

Yeah, there's so many of these threads that people get tired of them.

I've had the Zaino on the Charger for six months now. Time to do it again.
Think I'll spend one evening washing it, and then Zaino it the next morning.
If you do the claybar thing, it can take hours just to wash the car.

I ordered Formula 113 and it took about a week to arrive. I have not used it yet, but the package that arrived was a complete mess (bottles and rags and ripped up paper strewn all over the box). My initial impressions are not great because of that... I guess I'll have to actually use it before I make any judgements though :P

I washed the car Friday with dish soap, did the clay bar, and the water still beads. The clear coat on these cars must be really good. Took me about an hour and a half to wash it. I was exhausted.

In the morning I'll wash it again with the Z7 and do the Zaino.

Zaino is labor intensive, but the results are just to outstanding for anything else. Did mine 3 months ago, and it still looks like I did it yesterday.

I totally agree...the initial Zaino application is intensive, but well worth it. The, after you get the base down, it is a piece of cake. I usually wash my car once a week. After I wash it, I use the Z6. It looks just like a fresh polish. I plan on giving it a coat of Z2 once a month, just because (I think I have 1-Z5, 3-Z2s, and who knows how many Z6s on it now). Applying an extra coat of Z2 after a wash doesn't take long at all.

Oh, and when you have the Zaino on, the bugs don't stick very well and it is much, much easier to wash. And, between washes it doesn't show water spots very bad at all.

I was not a user of Zaino until I bought my Charger. Some of my friends were praising it and I wasn't sure exactly why. Then, I tried it. Now, I'm a believer.

I use the 113. I like the fact that you can put it over the hard black plastic and daytona cecals whit no worries. I also used to get over spray off the cars. Long story short the only time I park out side and my neighbor paints his house. But the 113 took it off with ease.

Not saying that Zaino is not good stuff, but so far I've been pleased with the 113. It works great for the Daytona. And since I work 6 days a week, less labor intensive is a good thing.

Are there any retail stores to by this Zaino stuff, I wanna get the wax on and wanna do it fast, and what does a clay bar do??

ChargerDad
08-19-2006, 02:06 PM
I don't think you can get Zaino at a retail store, but I got my order within 4 days of ordering it online. The clay bar and lubricant is used after you wash to remove the small grit and leftover stuff that stays on after the wash. If you do it right, you're left with a body that feels as smooth as a baby's butt... perfect base for the wax.

I Zaino'd my SXT Saturday morning. Like I said up above, I washed the car Friday night doing the Clay bar. This took about an hour an a half. Lucky for me, I have a garage.
Saturday morning I washed the car (Z7), Zaino'd (Z2), Enhancer (Z6), and then two more coats of Z2 on the hood, trunk, and top. Needless to say, it looks awesome.

If you can wash the car the night before, and have a garage, then do it, because then you'll have the entire morning to put 2 coats on.

If you do it all at once, expect to spend the entire day working, and you'll be exhausted at the end. Like others have said, it's hard work, but worth it.

so will a clay bar take off bug stuff off the front bumper, I am having a heck of a time with this.

ChargerDad

Clay may take off the bugs, if not, use goo gone, WD40 or something like that.

JRB73IN

That stuff wont hurt the paint? Someone told me kerosene, I am not sure, I don't want to mess up the paint.

ChargerDad
08-19-2006, 03:51 PM
Goo Gone and WD 40 won't mess with the paint, or auto places sell bug remover specifically for cars. I used both Goo Gone and WD40 when I took the side moulding off.

JRB73IN
08-19-2006, 04:01 PM
Cool, i will give it a try, so you just use wd 40 on a terry cloth towel and then, have to wash it all off again.with soap and water. or do you just wipe it off with a damp cloth?

Waxed my car for the first time with 113 today (first time I've ever waxed any car). Looks really good for the most part but I noticed later on in the day that there still seemed to be some streaky/smokey marks on the decals. I am going to give 113 the benefit of the doubt and assume I did a piss poor job buffing :P

ChargerDad
08-19-2006, 07:47 PM
Yeah, use WD40, wipe it clean, wash it soap & water, then wax it well.

JRB73IN
08-20-2006, 08:01 PM
Used the wd-40, seems like every time I think I got them all, I find more. So I didn't have time to order the Zaino, so I bought Mequires NXT synthetic wax and Mequires scratch remover and mothers clay bar system. Used the clay bar and noticed a huge difference in the smoothness of the car, then Waxed it and buffed it out. Took so long that I ended up missing the car show. So there is one next Sat and Sun, so its ready and I'll make it to them.

robvia
08-21-2006, 08:41 AM
Everything eventually comes off with the claybar, because you're basically washing the car 3 times.

1st time - Dish soap to take all wax off
2nd time - Clay bar, scrubs everything down even more
3rd time - One final cleaning before putting on the wax.

Yep, it is a lot of work. Which is why I did the clay bar wash the night before.

ok, heres an update.

i got my formula 113 last night, 11 days after i placed the order over the phone.

the formula 113 came packed in a pretty big box with a bunch of compressed packing foam that got all into the microfiber rag and applicator that came with the kit. compared to zaino which comes in a prefabricated box with separators for all the products you buy. no cross contamination by foreign material.

Zaino - 2

Formula 113 - 0

i will be waxing the car and taking pics this weekend.

I had that same issue. I had to basically pick crap out of the rag and applicator and wash them down before I could even use them. Did not make a good first impression.

yeah, i wasnt happy with that at all. another thing that told me this operation wasnt up to par was the baggie that they shipped the rag and applicator in. it was an old zip-lock freezer baggie with a broken plastic clip. the baggie came open in transit and the rag got out and into the foam.

what kind of professional company ships out a product in a broken zip-lock baggie?

I've only used Zaino on my Charger and my wife's Jeep. I ordered an new bottle of Z-8 recently, and when I used it, it left terrible streaks. And it did it on both cars. I never had any problems with the first bottle that I used. It took a VERY long time to clean the streaks off of my hood and roof. Needless to say, I didn't use it on the rest of the car. Is it possible to get a "bad batch?"
