Just had installed all 4 interior lights last week. Thanks ZMagnum for give me correct bulbs for both front and rear lights. I ordered Super White 39mm 9 LEDs for front map lights and 194 5 LEDs for rear passenger lights.

39mm Festoon (Map front lights) Link - http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm

194 (Rear passenger lights) Link - http://autolumination.com/194.htm

The pictures don't do justice. Super white is not too bright. It's almost blue but much better than yellowish stock lights. They provide a rather nice bluish glow.

Left is super white & right is stock light.

As for map front lights, I ordered 39mm - 9 LEDs festoon. Just stroll down and look for 39mm (1 1/2"). $6.99 each. Just pick the color (Blue, Super White, Red, Green, or UV).
Link - http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm

Rear passenger lights, I ordered 194 - 5 LEDs. Look for "194 Matrix Bulbs Emits Light in all Directions". $6.99 each. 6 colors (Blue, Super White, Red, Amber, Green, UV).
Link - http://autolumination.com/194.htm

You need to order 2 front light bulbs and 2 rear passenger light bulbs.

I've got the exact same LED's in my Magnum (white) from the same vendor. I have had to change all of them out once because they started blinking and burned out. Be careful when starting. Turn off your interior lights first otherwise you risk sending them a surge and burning them out.

Ok, so I just installed my superwhite bulbs. I have two questions now. First off, when I went to install mine there was a little metal shield that had to be removed to access the bulbs. I haven't seen anyone mention this in there how-to's. Is it because it's not there for everyone or did you guys just not re-install it? Second, when I push on the map lights the superwhite bulbs are VERY dim yet when I turn them on with the rolling switch they are the normal brightness. Anyone else experience this?

Remove the heat shields and do not reinstall them. They are no longer needed and only block your LED lights.

My lights do vary in brightness under different conditions. When driving at night they glow very dimly which is cool because you can see them if you need to switch them on. Sorta like a lighted switch.

I do get full brightness when opening the car doors if I've not purposely rheostated them off to protect them from surges.

BTW, I have the glovebox light mod and have replaced that light with an LED as well. It's the same 194 bulb that the rear passenger lights use.

Could you change the color of your turn lamps, I'm guessing this is illegal but I can't find anything for the state of minnesota for any restriction on color (well, I've seen amber, red, and white around here) With some of these LEDs, UV might be cool or blue, but you just might annoy the hell out of people. :p

I'm surprised none of you have an issue with the fact that the map lights aren't bright when you hit the corresponding map light button, only when you roll on the cabin light switch. It's the only reason I haven't done this mod.
The lamps burning dimly all the time might get on my nerves...or might just be practical as was stated.

I have not noticed this. I have blue installed and it is very bright when I push the map light button. Same brightness as when the cabin lights are on. Maybe try flipping them around end for end and reinstalling.
And by the way: The Blue is MUCH brighter than I thought it would be, probably because we ordered the one with 9 led's.

This is the post I read which mentions the issue with dim map lights. I don't believe I saw a follow-up post by him stating he found the problem. So, is it simply because the lamps needed to be swapped end-for-end? Makes lotsa sense, by the way. They are, after all, diodes...

I just realized that dim leds even when power is off (key off) could be a grounding issue. I used to build electronics stuff a few years back and anytime there was a short between the ground and positive, even with the switch off, the led would be dimly lit.

You can hook tons of leds to the car and itll power them for a few days probably before draining, they dont suck up much power at all.

Yeah, mine are incredibly dim unless I use the cabin lights (open a door or roll the dimmer). Here is the thing, back when I installed LED #1, it was dim when flipped on by itself , and when I turned on the map light next to it which stilled contained a regular stock bulb, it got bright. I now have both LEDs installed and both are dim unless I turn on the cabin lights, so I am wondering this. Are they both dim because BOTH are reversed (this is assuming the conclusion we are all coming to about it being a polarity issue is correct) or would they both be dim even if it is only one of the LEDs that is reversed?

edit: Whoever is saying that the polarity is causing them to be dim is incredibly wrong. I have switched around the bulbs into every combination of polarity and nothing changes. They are straight up DIM when using each lamp by itself as a reading lamp, to the point of being completely useless. Now, when you put use the cabin lights as a whole they work great, but what the hell am I gonna do driving down the road trying to look at something in the car with ALL my LEDs burning bright as hell?!

In the continuing saga of the LEDs, my glove box light will not work when the LEDs are installed... Likewise, if a map/reading light is turned on and I open the glove box, the map/reading light turns off. The only way the reading light will stay on with the glove box open is to have the cabin lights on altogether, but no matter what, the glove box light will not work. Now, if I swap the light in the glove box with an LED, that will light up...

Uhm.. Better check your connections of the glove box light. How did you hardwire it?

titan
09-20-2006, 08:13 PM
It is not the glove box light, and I wired it directly into the existing harness. I am not sure what was going on, but my lights were acting screwy period, even when I put the stock bulbs back in. Basically, when I rolled the dimmer to turn all the cabin lights on, they did, but they would turn off if you hit the buttons on them individually. If the cabin dimmer was not turned on, they did not light period. Figured something needed a reset so I started the car and shut it off and it fixed everything, including, for some reason, the dimming issue. Now everything works, with the LEDs in, and they are only dim when the key is not in the ignition. As soon as you insert the key and turn it to acc, they are fine.

So that should answer the questions everyone was having about why they were so dim. Except now I am also having this infamous glow people are talking about, too. That goes out after a minute or so as soon as you remove the key and open the door. If you get in a pitch black garage you will notice that your EVIC also has a orange glow to it but they turn themselves off completely after you shut everything down and wait a minute.

Haha, yeah, if he reads this post and finds out how to fix his now that I screwed with them for 3 days. Go figure it was something so basic. I am debating whether I should swap my glove box light out with an LED to match...the yellow is bothering me when everything else is super white. Only things stopping me: when the car is not powered up the lights are dim...don't need a dim glove box. I already paid enough for shipping the cabin LEDs, not worth ordering another single one. The LED does not fit through the hole I Dremeled ut for the glove box switch so I would have to enlarge the hole.

Anyone worried about removing the heat shield? I'm wondering if that might cause too much heat and start a fire. I'm figuring it hasn't happened since no one has posted that problem. Unless they died in the fire?? Any thoughts.

Also, what about strain on the battery? I'm reading about the lights still being on even when the car is off. I understand it's not going to completely drain the battery but wouldn't that cause an early demise of the battery. Just a few thoughts.

I love those blue lights.

Hey ya'll. Maybe the issues you are having are the size of the bulb you are using?? The LX Forum site guys are using the 44mm bulbs in 300's. Also, autoillumination has a 300c page, and they are recommending the 44mm bulbs. Might be worth trying out.

Great mod and I did all the lights that I could by folowwing this thread (Kudos). Does anybody know where to get the lights for the Vanity Visor area. The bulbs that are in there now are very small and I have tried a few different festoon type bulbs in varying sizes but they are all still too big. Length is ok either 31 or 34MM in length but its the diameter that too big, the light needs to be around 6-7MM in order for the cover to go back on the vanity. Any ideas????

HELP!! My map lights are working great, but I cannot get the darn lights in the back seat pull handles to work. I got the same 194 bulbs as everyone else. Tried swtiching them around, putting both in, putting old bulbs back in (still work fine) and I can't get nothing to glow at all.

Does anyone have any tricks or advise?? Anyone bend a nib, crimp a wire, anything??

Thanks!!!

Are you sure these 194s bulbs are working? It should be installed same way you installed stock lights. I know it's not enough room to place a bulb in rear passenger light but you can use a tool like a small plier to install.

PikeBoy98

Both bulbs have worked in the driver's side rear light, but I cannot get the passenger light to work. It worked when I put the original bulb back in. Weird. I actually took the entire pull handle assembly off of the ceiling to install the bulbs. large hands and awkward angle made it tough to just change the bulbs. We shall see if I can get it working this weeken with a little more patience. I used the 44mm Festoon's up front, and they fit good.

That sounds extremely similar to the issue I raised several posts back. And I reported that putting the stock bulbs back in, starting the car, killing the engine, then reinstalling the LEDs seemed to restart the electronics system and made them work again.

I will try the start the car again way. Maybe that will help. For now, I have the two dome lights in and the driver's side rear light in.

To answer the question regarding 39mm vs 44mm, I installed the 44mm like the website instructed where I bought the bulbs.

http://www.autolumination.com/300c.html

The 44mm ones fit great and work good. The lxforums site has issues with the bulbs staying on dimly and not working when you click the light. Mine are bright when I want them and they do not stay on when the car is turned off.

I installed mine during the day. It was one of the easiest mods Ive done.
I forgot to check them at nite. I left for work this morning and opened my car to a huge surprise. Super White light. I musta turned the map light on and off at least a dozen times.

when I am driving, they are glowing very very dim. I think I like it though, kind of shows where to touch if you want them to turn on.

then after I park and turn the car off, they stay dimly lit for a bit until the timer turns off. Its a few minutes, and then they turn off completely.
So open the door and act like your getting out, the lights come on and then go out after a bit. The leds still glow for a bit longer and then they turn off completely.

is there a way to get them not to glow.
I know some are ordering the longer bulbs for the front, but even the rears glow a bit so it cant just be the length can it?

I was wondering has anyone tried using a LUXEON 3Watt LED or the K2's. These are if not brighter than the stock Map lights and Reading lamps. You can get them in 1 watt versions. The are bulk LEDS that you can mod to fit into the metal reflector since these things need a heatsink to actually keep them from over heating. The Star Hex luxeons are Hex shaped with mounting holes for mounting them on a heatsink or metal plate and you can add a resistor in series to drive the current down to the rated 350ma for 1W version or 1A for the 3Ws. You can also get a 5W almost equivalent to a 40W light bulb and rated at 750Ma . These things are bright don't try looking directly at them it's like looking at a flashbulb go off in your face. Look for them at Luxeonstar dot com.

Hope this helps you Led modders out there. By the way you can also use these for your Rear Tail lights but remember to use the 120 degree beam ones.

Thanks for the info, but could you be more specific on bulb choice...looks nice!

I also would like additional information. The SRT owners manual provides the following specs:
REPLACEMENT LIGHT BULBS
LIGHT BULBS — Interior Bulb Number
Rear Courtesy/Reading Lights. . . . . . . . . . . . . . W5W
Rear Compartment (Trunk) Light . . . . . . . . . . . . . 562
Overhead Console Reading Lights. . . . . . . . . . . . . 578
Visor Vanity Lights . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A6220
Glove Box Light . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 194
Door Courtesy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 562
Shift Indicator Light . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . JKLE14140
NOTE: For lighted switches, see your dealer for replacement
instructions.
All of the interior bulbs are glass wedge base or glass cartridge types. Aluminum base bulbs are not approved and should not be used for replacement.

I guess the C300 part numbers and therefore corresponding autoillunination part numbers are different because I can't find the SRT part numbers on their web pages. Any help would be appreciated.

I just ordered 100 dollars worth of LEDs from VLEDs.com. Front passenger lights 42mm (#578), Rear passenger Wedge lights (#194), Trunk light (#168), Reverse lights (#921), and the hardest one to find Vanity Visor lights, just click on new products in their website and they are located in that list. I measured the ones in my car to the picture measurements on the site, they are exact. The picture show 2 bulbs in each visor, the LX visors only take 1, they only come in packages of 1. Did a quick google search for coupon codes found out vleds is registered on a lexus forum and they created a coupon code CLUBLEX which saved me 10% my entire order. Once I get em I'll try and take pictures. Hope this helps for others.

Please do! Good luck and wow ... you are going to have a lot of LEDs!

Has anyone seen the UV lights? Anyone have pics? Anyone know if they give decent light or ... ?

I'm really ready for these things to get in. ;)

I ordered mine early Tuesday morning.

Just out of sheer stupidity, I have to ask: what are CCFLs?

Just ordered some greens. And as a side note: AutoIlluminations website is very headache inducing.

Usually just called CFL, they are Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamps. Like neon, but more durable and lighter and they don't require the giant high voltage transformer.

Thanks for that. :)

I agree that the website could use a serious face-lift. Cumbersome and annoying come to mind when I think about the site ...

EDIT: I got my UV lights in the mail today and just finished getting them installed. Way too bright outside to even get an idea of what it will look like, so cross your fingers! :) By the way ... this was as simple and as easy as possible. I can't use my right arm and I was able to do this by myself in about fifteen minutes.

I didn't take any pics, but I'm really let down with these lights. I got the UV ones and while they make a pretty light ... it is almost impossible to see anything in the car.

I'm thinking of either getting a different color or putting the old bulbs back in.

On a good note: the purple looks pretty dang good. :)

Got the UV LED's installed on Saturday, need extension wires for the CFL's.
Actually the 'UV' LED's are not actually UV, just purple (my camera turns them blue for some odd reason) they don't set off uv reactive items like club stamp or drivers license (which is a good thing cuz this way I don't have to be as anal about keeping my car immaculate)
And as said above, while the ambiance they create is very cool, the are useless for reading stuff.

I installed the red LEDs from Autoillumination in my SRT. I also installed the Billet Technologies 2PC Radio 3PC A/C Black Chrome Designer Series and the Black chamfered shift bezel insert. They look awsome because the red light reflects on these excellent BT parts. The reflections are subtile but look like individual points of light. Hard to describe but it looks super.

I want to order interior led's and decided to read your experiences 1st. I was originally going to order from aac style.com. My concerns from your experiences are the constant on after the car is off:confused:, and not coming up to full power when the key is out. I live in Buffalo NY and it gets very cold; tough environment on car batteries. I can live with on:driving: in the car since the radio screen is bright anyway, but i'm worried about battery drain if they dont go off... any advice or encouragement to go for it:beerchug:?! just started doing mods in an 08 charger...
thanks!!

Once you have turned off your vehicle and exited they will remain glowing ever so slightly. They do however completely fade out after sometime just sitting there. I've had mine installed for over 6 months now, and have not had any problems with battery draining.

I saw these kits advertised. I read on the forum someone had oracles and they flickered. could just be their car. I also checked out vled.com. I am after brightness more then color, function over show... I can live with a sllight glow after the car if off for a few minutes...it will either be the interior kit from oracle or separates from vled. I'll post my results.
thanks again!!

I know i've already said this a million times but I ALWAYS buy my LEDs from www.v-leds.com. I have NEVER received a broken bulb and they are super easy to work with if you have questions or what not.

The links below will take you directly to the LED(s) you will need if you are going to completely outfit your car with LEDs. If you choose to buy from V-LEDs (http://www.v-leds.com), you will need the following for your charger:

Front Map Lights (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4481172/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481/sret/14219210172222232102192822272262832142292142872182 35236291222231230297226231238227238237240233240249 238243)
Vanity Mirror in Sun Visor (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4481128/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481/sret/14219210172222232102192822272262832142292142872182 35236291222231230297226231238227238237232237236245 252251)
Rear Seat LEDs (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4481033/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481/sret/14219210172222232102192822272262832142292142872182 35236291222231230297226231238227238239232243232243 236235)
Trunk LED (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4481127/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481/sret/14219210172222232102192822272262832142292142872182 35236291222231230297226231238227238237234249234237 250249)
License Plate LED (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4481133/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481/sret/14219210172222232102192822272262832142292142872182 35236291222231230297226231238227238237238241250251 234247)

**These Links take you directly to the LEDs I purchased for my Charger. They are all the Super White LEDs. If you are looking for different colors, let me know.

Two things to keep in mind when you go to install these LEDs:

For the Front Map Lights and the Back Seat Lights, you have to remove the metal reflector so that the LED light will fit. It is very easy to remove and once you plug in your LEDs, the metal reflectors become worthless. Just trash those things.
When you plug in any LED light and test it, if it doesn't come on, unplug it and turn it around.

Again, this mod is super easy and well worth the investment. Other than it looking bad azz, it will also help if you acidentally leave any interior lights on when you leave your car. Because LEDs require so little energy to opperate, you could literally leave them on for like 5 days in a row before you get a dead battery. It has saved my butt a number of times after my wife drives my car!!!

Also from VLEDs.com for the front map lights if you wanna go brighter than the 9 LEDs, they sell a 20 LED size 211 that also fits. I have these installed in my map lights and they are hella bright. Little bit more expensive than the 9 LED but well worth it. Here's the link
