the 300's hids come from the factory as an option, the only way to get HID lights in the charger is an aftermarket conversion.

At this time this is true but srt-8's may have this option in the future or 07's etc..

I just installed a set on mine. The glare may suck for some oncomers but o well I can see everything. I got a 9006 retro kit off ebay. Pictures next week. I have a few more things before I can release it into the wild.

the Silverstars are the closest thing to HID. I had them in my 05' 300 before trading it in for the Charger R/T. I also had LED's in the back. They were cool. Nice and RED. Thinking of them for the R/T now and they will match the color of the brake light on the trunk as it did on the 300.

so is this a complete change out (the entire light "fixtures" for lack of better word at the moment) or is this just a light bulb change.....i was under the impression we just changed out light bulbs?
nCHARGE
09-08-2005, 06:28 PM
the whole thing must be changed... they need a high votage ballast to get them going.... its not just a bulb change....
and please... don't buy those ugly "blue" fake HID whannabe's. Use the Silverstars... they give off a nice purple cast.

Hey guys, I just got off the phone with my contact for HIDS. Here is the breakdown on prices and such.
This is for the low beam plug and play replacement. Takes all of a half and hour to install and the light output is amazing!
5300K - $315
6000K - $335
8000K - $355
10000K - $375
Free shipping anywhere in the Continental US. If you are interested please contact Allen at HIDPlace.com
I personally have the 6000K since I feel that is the best optical light you can get. Here is a pic of my car.

Cool! glad it worked out for you. At first glance it looks like the airbox has to come out unless you have a CAI that would too. I haven't done my car yet but it's in the works. You should put in one side and see if you can notice the difference on a wall or something. I know on my truck it was a big difference.

Hey lordkevork, you mentioned the 9006xsst as the low beam Silverstar for the Charger. Are you aware that the "xs" indicates a straight base? Don' get my car till Monday and would like to pick up the bulbs Sunday, as the car is having a CAI put in on Monday and thats the time to put the bulbs in! Thanks

ok guys not sure this is the route to go...i have had a b*tch of a time getting them in....in truth they are still not in...i started with the high beams and i have had nothing but fit issues. first off i had to shave off the inner piece (when you take off the light you can see two little pieces sticking out so everything will fit tight...the silverstar has one sticking out....so had to shave that off) then i tried to put in the light housing...damn thing won't fit....kept at it trying to figure it out...the diameter of the inner part of the light will not fit into the housing....decided to do some shaving...getting very iritated with this. anyone else put these on and have these issues...i checked the numbers they are right - its just doesn't fit right. bueller? bueller? bueller? anyone?
lordkevork
09-10-2005, 02:10 PM
light will not fit into the housing?
You should not have to do anything but remove the old bulb and twist in the new one. Aside from removing the airbox etc.. It is possible that osram sylvania (manufacturer) gave me the wrong numbers... I'm going to check the service manual and then cross ref. to their numbers.

i am a complete idiot....i was trying to put the low in the high.....i tried to come back in and erase the post....damn i am going to get a beer i need one for feeling so stupid....one thing though guys....the high 9005st is a bend unit - it needs to be straight so i am going to change that out. so i think it will be 9005"xs"st so it is straight...be back going to see if they have one on hand to look at over at advance auto...again never felt quite this dumb in a long time (ok since yesterday)

09-10-2005, 02:21 PM

already ordered but i think they i right, i did a search over at lxforums.com and they weren't available for them until recently so it should be cool, but looking at advance online i am not seeing what i need....the wife is at the store and the daughter is napping so i will go in a few and see...i will get back with you so we can make sure everything is correct on this...the lows are perfect - 9006xsst
GoDaddy
09-10-2005, 03:49 PM
ok after much deliberation, heartache and what i thought would be an easy mod......i have found the elusive part issue. here is the run down
"st" = 90 degree bends in lamp connector (impossible to use on our cars - i have tried it won't work)
"xsst" = straight through design...just like our factory lamps
9006 xsst for low beams are pretty easy to find....everyplace i went to had them.
9005 xsst - different story, almost impossible to find for me here...have to have them special order and the only way the guy at advance auto parts could find it was b/c i told him to look under dodge viper headlamps..sure enough it was there.
fog lamps are on order and i pray they work - lol
man - what i thought would be an easy 1,2 punch has turned into a battle...hehe.
so i should have the 9005 XSSTs in a few days. man i hope these are nicer for all the work.
ok i am not installing the gsm mod...someone want to do it for me...i am to stupid  :embarrese

I pulled my stock fogs out a while back. They were easy (pulled the fender covers off (or open) and stuffed my hand in. The are held by two (hex)....not sure what that tool is called, screwdriver type heads (can with my screwdriver kit).
After that and un-plugging they push out to the front (in the housing).
My after market Hella fog lights, have the outer angel eye look, in various colors. I pushed them in and siliconed them. They have held fine for the last 4 months. The cord on the hella was a little tight due to the Chargers long/wide nose.
I could figure out any other way to use a bracket and yet mount the fogs flush, so I just went ghetto stuffed them in and like I said siliconed them, so far the ghetto rig is working fine.
I wired the hella (which has a main and outer ring wires as follows).
The main beam is to the fogs (stock) on, so the regular swithc works.
The secondary outer beam I tapped into the parking lights, so whenever the parking light is on, the outer ring is on.
Gives it a nice attractive, head lights off effect. Photos on on my photo page on here.
How do you rate the silverstars..the low beams????

That MAJOR SUCKS. A car in the 35 - 40K price range out the door without HIDs? You gotta be kiddin' me. Silverstar ain't the same.
Well, I'm waiting then until they put 'em in straight from the factory, or I'll have to go with the 300 SRT-8 instead of Charger.
Once you go HID you never go back!

Like Morrell says above, Chrysler 300C. The other point is this: Why are American brands always lagging behind comparably priced foreign brands in giving consumers what we want? No wonder American car companies have gotten their asses kicked over the years by the Japanese and Germans. They're always lagging.
Not until the Germans took over Chrysler did the Big C come out with an outstanding sedan, the 300C, for under 40K loaded with things we want like HIDs and Nav systems. That stuff is standard on Japanese and German vehicles in the same price range.
German management is bringing Chrysler up to standard and has no doubt influenced Dodge with the redesign of the Durango (now a quality SUV) and the new Charger.
I have factory-installed HIDs on my 29K Altima V6. I can never go back to ordinary headlights after experiencing Xenons. Chevy, Ford and Buick are hopelessly behind the times. Chrysler has almost caught up, and will hopefully pull Dodge along.
Any car above 30K should have HIDs as an option. Above 35K and they ought to be standard. I want my SRT8 with HIDs.
