first of all there are multiple choices on programming your homelink system in your charger owner's manual. from my reading i did not find a suitable solution.
i have a sears rolling code garage door opener that is about 1 year old. the standard process for programming has always been to clear the channels (pressing and holding button I and III for 20 seconds), then pressing the program button on the garage door opener the pressing button (I) sometimes for a few seconds.
after erasing all three of my garage door transmitters and keypad and locking the garage shut (lol just my day!!). i have figured out how to program the new charger homelink system (which is advanced to a level of overkill!!).
first i got back into the garage with the by-pass cable. i re-programmed all three transmitters.
second thing i did was program one of the transmitters to the homelink in the charger. this step does not open the garage or close it.
third step is to now program the homelink (with the transmitter code already in it) to the garage door opener by pressing the program button on the garage door and within 30 seconds pressing button number (I) on the homelink.
it now works!! with one little side effect. when using the sears transmitters i could open and close the garage door and pause the door while going up or going down and if i hit the button again the door would go up. this is no longer the case with the homelink in the charger. the door fully cycles fully up or fully down with no ability to pause the door let alone reverse the direction.
this posed a slight problem because i have a laser that lets you know when to stop so as not to hit the end of the garage or have the rear end hanging out of the garage (tight fit for the charger). from when you put the charger in park there is a slight roll back that happens and when i hit the button the garage door almost came down on the back end of the car. luckily i had the stock sears remote close by to stop the door. the safety light runs right under the bumper so the beam was not broken.
other than that it is functional and has great range.
