HI GUYS I NEED HELP WITH THE BASICS ON THIS
-WHAT MODS I NEED TO DO IN ORDER FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE TO WORK
AS FAR AS FUEL DELIVERY ,TRANSMISSION,AXLE,COMPUTER TUNING
OR I CAN USE STOCK SET UP?
IM ASKING BECAUSE I READ IN LX FORUMS THAT THE BOTTON END ON THE 5.7 COULDNT HANDLE MORE THAN 400 HP..
SO IF ANYBODY HAVE DONE THE CONV. OR HAVE KNOWLEDGE ON THE MATTER
PLEASE HELP ..I THINK THE CONV TO 392 OR 410 IS PROBABLY CHEAPER AND BETTER THAN GOING WITH A SUPERCHARGER OR TURBO :bigthumb:

Just to clarify, the stock 5.7 rotating assembly should be good for 400 RWHP, which is going to be 450+ HP at the crank. To put it in perspective, 400 RWHP is more than most lightly modified SRT's are putting down.
That being said, whether you go forced induction or N/A it's going to cost about the same dollar wise. In either case, none of the stock components will last very long. The fuel pump, lines, rails and injectors will need to be replaced. You will also need a custom tune for your specific setup, along with new axle shafts and u-joints for your driveline. Your transmission might be ok, but you've already gone this far, so may as well upgrade it too.
HP is not cheap, and unless you are handy with a wrench, you will easily be into the engine and install at least $10k, not including the upgrades mentioned above.

with a 5.7 based 392 the stock transmission is good up to around 525rwhp. Your stock fuel system is fine, your probably are going to have to change your fuel injectors to atleast stock 6.1 Injectors or mopar stage one injectors. If you track the car any your going to definitely have to change the axles and hubs. Alot of people are going to the 09 and up Challenger hubs and axles because they are stronger then the 05 to 08 srt axles and hubs. Also look into changing the rear gears/end out. Some are doing the getrag setups but if your not a serious racer and want to save a few bucks u can do the stock srt 3.06 rear end. Also if u have a 06 to 08 RT look into upgrading the exhaust manifold to some shorty headers, longtube headers or srt stock headers and the intake manifold to the eagle intake or stock 6.1 intake manifold. Both of those parts are kinda restrictive on the 06 to 08 RT's

dwhip do you have any idea on the hp gains with 392 set up str8 motor .........................my car its daily driver do not race it , i just want little more power 400 to 450 rwhp would be good enough for me
and another question does the conv. requires engine removal or u can do it in the car?

A few guys I know have 5.7 based 392 strokers and they dynoed between 415 to 450. I'm assuming your changing the heads and the cam but the motor by itself is good for 50 to 60 horses

You can get 400rwhp with just heads and cam...I'm running a mild cam and P&P heads with LT's and don't track it, I'm running very close to SRT power..425 crank...I've seen several 392 DD running close to 500rwhp...you could get 475 rwhp very easily with the 392..If you aren't going to track it.....a t/c change is the least you would need. The 580 tranny is good to 450+- rwtqe....I would not go with an aggressive cam, to make it street friendly, but when you push the go button....wwweeeeeeeeee..Just my .02

Think a 6.1 based 392 will put those numbers out but I haven't seen any 5.7 based 392 putting out 500rwhp. This is just my opinion though and what I have seen and read so I could be wrong. I do know the shortblock by itself is worth about 50 to 60 horsepower. Now once u add the ca and heads in and on other supporting mods, that's when the added hp/tq will come into play

After reading the replies on this post I am curious to know if the MDS could be functional with the 5.7 block stroked to either the 392 or 410.
