Need opinions from people and ipod gurus in regards to my idea to see if others think that it may work. If your not familiar with the CHYP interface from Peripheral then check out this web site:
http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/ipod_interfaces.asp
So you download a dvd movie into your Ipod then with the interface it should allow you to watch the movie on your screen....correct me if im wrong?!
If this would work then the interface from http://www.tvandnav2go.com/ would be not needed then if your not interested in hooking up a rear view camera.
Thanks for your responses!

It will only do audio, not video.

The discountcarstereo.com now lists availability of CHYP as 7/11/2006

FYI: I got an email today from tech support at Peripheral Electronics, manufacturer for the CHYP iPod adapter, saying the adapter will work with the DC nav unit. And another vendor gave me the same availability date as posted on discountstereo.com.

The discountcarstereo web site states:

"The CHYP emulates a SAT tuner and because of that the factory Satellite Radio must be disconnected."

This would be a deal killer for me. I hvae the REC Nav unit and would want to keep the factory Sirius receiver operational.

If you don't have VES option, then it will emulate the VES. You won't lose Sirius.

Here's a question: If you have both the Sirius and the VES, and you disconnect the VES, could the VES still be used independently (not through the stereo) with the wireless headphones?

Can you go to the dodge dealer and have them activate the VES portion of the CANBUS even if you do not have one? That way you still could have the Sat and IPOD.

VES is the Video Entertainment System... The DVD player that has the screen inside the center console for the rear passengers.

I was thinking about getting this for my car, but I don't want to lose Sirius. Has anyone confirmed it can still work with Sirius as long as I don't have the VES?

I am guessing that people are assuming this due to the RCA input that they just released works this way.. seeing as how this part is not availible yet I don't think anyone knows for sure...

I am waiting to find the best price from a vendor I can trust to order this... the best price I have seen thus far is $148 shipped, but I have never heard of the website on any of the forums I have been on over the years, and am iffy on giving them money...

They were having some issues with the interfaces for Ford, so they're taking some additional time to test them to make sure everything works as it should.

I'm adding this to the "I'll believe it when I see it" category.

I sent Chrysler an email asking for an update on the availability of their interface. If they respond, I'll post it here.

I sent an email to peripheral electronics asking about an availability date for the CHYP. Here is the reply:

"Unfortunately we are still working out the bugs on the CHYP. I should be available by the end of the year."

Jesus by that time I might not even have a Charger or an Ipod.

This is a No Go. Got this email yesterday

Thanks for your recent order.
We are sorry to inform you that this past Friday we received word that the engineers at Peripherals are having major issues with the CHYP Chrysler iPod interface and because of that this part may not be available until next year.
The other suppliers are also saying the same thing leaving us no further recourse than to remove these parts from the site and void all pre-orders.
Your credit card has not and will not be charged for this transaction.
If this situation was to change we will update the site accordingly.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

This is very disappointing. I wonder if Chrysler is having the same types of problems with it's interface. I think I read somewhere it may be released as an FM modulated unit. One would think that Apple and Chrysler would put their engineers together to figure this out.

A FM modulated unit would be a stupid move.

Agree... Just picked up a Monster FM modulator (on the cheap at eBay) to overcome the sound cut-out I'm getting from the VES. Fixed that problem, but the quality doesn't even come close to wired.

DO NOT order CHYP from installer.com. I ordered one two weeks ago and was charged for it. When I called to ask why I hadn't received it I was told that they didn't have any and did't know when it would be available. I then asked why they took my money. Dwayne, the representative I talked to on the phone, was extremely rude and told me that he would TRY to have my money refunded. I suggested to him that perhaps they should not make it available on the website if they didn't carry it, or make it clear that they would not be getting it anytime soon. Dwayne told me that he was going to continue selling them (rather, charging people for them), but not inform his customers that they weren't available. Stay away from Installer.com

I just received this today and installed it in about 20 minutes. It works great and can be controlled by the radio buttons, steering wheel buttons and by the ipod. The only thing I wished it did was to show the song title on the radio.

You didn't get the right one or displays only on nav unit?

Excellent. Let us know if you find any problems. I'm ready to pitch the DCX iPod adapter. Showing song titles is not worth the pain of how DCX designed theirs.
