: 2006 charger key fob

i have this key fob for my 2006 charger (only have 1) which got wet and doesnt work anymore. since i have two functioning keys i don't want the key/fob combination, which is the only one i can find available for purchase. Does anyone know where i can get just the fob? And then program it?

That's very strange...did you buy your car used? The "Fob" you have pictured there is the actual body of a key for the '06...looks like it was taken apart and the actual metal "Key" part was removed. The 06's didn't have a separate fob, the buttons were all on the key.

To get a replacement, you'll need to get a new key programmed.

big question is ...how have u started your car ...and why do you think its a fob if you have a key slot ??....makes no sense

Why wouldn't I be able to start the car? I dnt believe the "fob" was ever part of the key, there ismt a hole on the bottom of it where a key may have ever protruded. I have spare key that is only the key seen in the picture.

what are you talking about?? a fob, which chargers don't really have because it's integrated into the key, is what has the lock/unlock/trunk release/panic buttons, and remote start if you happen to have that installed on your car

He has a police car and that's the way police cars got there keys sent to them . police package cars each got 4 fobs and 4 keys per car . pretty sure your dealer would be able to get the shorty fob for you .

Vito , as long as you have a key with the chip in it for the code it will start the car , the first pic clearly shows he has a sentry key ( with a chip inside the rams head ) the part with the lock buttons only locks and unlocks the doors nothing else.

Anyone knows how much a key and fob combo should cost? 06 R/T and at my local locksmith, I was quoted $450. Way more than I want to pay for a damn key. Really like my key though and only have one...wife lost the spare.:rolleyes2:

thanks canuk, i thought the police package may be reason for the confusion. ive tried the local dealers and no one seems to have a clue. :rolleyes2: Tomorrow I'm going to try someone at fleet sales, maybe they can point me in the right direction.

Also i was curios about the key, both the key and the fob were submerged in saltwater for over a week. The key starts the car without a problem but the fob is history. Is it possible that the keys for the police package are not "coded"

I found a guy on eBay selling keys/fobs for our cars (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120629795514&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT). He's a whole lot cheaper than what the dealers want for a key. If you have 2 working keys, you can program yourself, otherwise you'll have to get a dealer or locksmith to program it for you (locksmith would be cheaper).

Good luck.

Have you tried opening up the fob and rinsing everything off and then replace the battery? If the circuit board isn't corroded then it may be revivable (is that a word?). Make sure everything is completely dry before trying to power it up again. If you have to get another one, they are easier to program to the car than doing the sentry key programming.

Undercover , the key has a chip embedded in the rubber end that just stores the code so being in water would not cause the chip any damage. Now the remote part is another story. I would imagine it's toast being in water, I'm sure the circuit board and other electrical parts are damaged. I don't see why you can't just get the key/fob that the regular charger uses and just get it programmed. Unless you really want the police car key setup ?

So if I have an '06 and it came with two key/fob units, can I get a key-only? I don't need the remote and don't like the huge key, would rather have just the key with rubber head.

YUP , the fob part is only there for remote entry. as long as you buy a sentry key with the embedded chip this will start your Charger
