Sometime yesterday, some wiseguy with a tow-hitch decided to leave his mark on my left rear quarter, between the rear wheel and the rear door. It's not immediately obvious, but the paint is cracked where the quarter and the door meet and the dent's about golfball sized. It also rippled the door a smidge too.
I've gotten estimates from two body shops already and filed a claim with my insurance. Thankfully I've got comprehensive coverage so the insurance will cover all but the deductible. Since this is the case, I'd rather be a bit picky about who has to take her apart to make her look new again. Anyone have any suggestions on where to take her to get the work done, or should I go with Progressive's first picks of either Quality in Pleasanton or Cook's in Dublin?
Also:
I'd like to thank a guy I met today, Tom who works at Allied Auto Stores in Fremont and owns a modded Black RT Charger with assorted Daytona mods on it. He saw me pull out of the Fremont body shop and waved me over to check out the "Hot Chick in a SRT8". I told him my problem and he hopped in and gave me directions to another body shop who charges less for labor. He's pretty cool so I told him to check out the forums as soon as he gets access to a computer. Oh and he said he knew the guys in the parts department at AutoWest Dodge and could hook me up with some good stuff. Gotta love the Charger brotherhood!

Jim's Auto Body, I think they have a shop in Concord. They did me right with my Ram.

Cgal - Ouch, I know the feeling as I was going over my car doingthe full on ClayBar and polish job I found that it had been it no less than 3 times, and one of them was within the last week ( my plate is now damaged where it wasnt before ).
And people wonder why they get beat downs when they f'up someones ride...
Honest suggestion is dont go for low ball labor, you get what you pay for.
Look for a shop with good down draft spray booths that cure the paint at temp, and make sure the blend any paint work they do. Your going to eat the deductable eighter way, so go for quality.

Cooks is a very reputable shop with top notch customer service. I would recoment Tom at the Cooks in Walnut Creek on Pine street. They basically mainly work on Mercedes and again, they do top notch work.
When my magnum was wrecked, I had it brought there, insurance eventually totalled the thing, but Tom was great.
Oh ya, sorry to hear about you baby :(

When they fix it tell them to touch nothing of the other parts of the car. That includes washing. I had mine fixed by a reputable body shop and they put fine scratches all over my black finish. It was never the same again even after trying to use 3M polish & a foam pad to fix it. I never felt the same of her either.
Anyway, make it clear not to do anything to any other parts. That includes buffing.
Sorry for your loss. I know the sinking feeling. Time does help the healing...

Cool, lots of stuff I didn't know.
I'm meeting with the adjustor tomorrow.
Luckily last night I remembered I had PermaPlate and that these repairs would compromise that, so I looked up the company and asked about it. They said to include the PermaPlate Exterior Guard in my claim so the insurance would cover it. *Phew*
But yeah, still shopping around.

Girl we are sorry to hear about that. I know you will get her fixed up just fine. I owned XXL for a month then went to Thunder Valley Casino. I parked next to an island so i knew that one side was safe. This was far away from all other cars. I did not pull up to far in the parking space so no one would pull in to far and hit the front end. Well guess what some a$$ with a extended cab dually with a trailer hitch sticking out backed into the space in front of me. He went two feet into my spot hit my bumper then pulled up and went in. We came out and of course I inspected my front he did little damage but damage none the less. We waited and called the police the drunk guy came out first. Took a look at our car and said I don't see nothing. Claimed he never backed into our car then he hopped in his monster and sped off. I had his plate # and gave that to the police of course it was out of state. The lazy a$$ cop said he could not see any damage. I still filed the report and nothing came of it so I live with the flaw.

So I dropped her off tonight. They'll look her over in the morning, give me a time estimate and start working on her on Monday. So now it's gonna be like a week of Vroom Vroom withdrawal.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry to here another SRT8 owner getting hated on, let alone one of the nicest (and only other I have to admit) SRT8 owners I've ever met!! :(
Well I'm glad you're getting it taken care of and it isn't coming out of your pocket..
I was going to recommend Cavallino Collision in Palo Alto. They are mostly a Ferarri body shop, but open to the public. They do some bomb paint jobs... They will blend and repaint 3/4 of your car just for a small scratch. You'll never be able to tell it was repainted and most of your car will then get a free repaint/finish. Sure it costs $$$, but if insurance is paying for it... I took my Civic there when it got keyed on the trunk. They repainted 1/2 of my car which was sweet cuz they took out all the swirl marks (my Civic was black pearl so they had been standing out like crazy before that). I was VERY happy. :D

I'll see how the local shop did, since I have tons of pics to compare it with and if I don't like it, I might drive over to PA for a re-do. Yeah, on my tab, but I love this car, demmit. :D

Those are the same bacis pannels you would have, thats where the seam is. If the damage isnt too bad doing a fix is fine, but if the pannel is to be replaced thats a lot more work and lot more cutting and stuff.
Btw - intresting enough almost all the main floor pan is epoxied together, not many wields from the looks of it :) Gotta love structural adheasives(sp)
