View Full Version : Oil change interval.
Brian, what is the maximum time between oil changes with QB for low mileage driving. I'm getting ready for 2nd oil change and like many I'm thinking of switching.
Car is an 08 SRT, only put on between 3500 top 5000 miles/year. Less driving during the winter months, car is stored indoors out of the cold. Also what weight would you recommend.
Thanks YKW

YKW,
On most all SRT8 cars, we do a 12.5w40 QuantumBlue High Performance Competition Formula 6.1L High Output blend.
It is designed for the dual upper rockerarm assemblies as they are weak points on this engine, also protecting the ring land area to stop ring ridge, and piston slap (which is part of the Hemi Tick) and protect the bottom end especially if we know that the car is used for low mileage stored for the winter applications.
I would blend this formula very similarly to the one that I put in my own 06 Charger SRT8 6.1. I ran 800 miles on the 0w40 Mobil 1 and then drained it for my 12.5w40 in July of 2006. I changed the oil 9-23-2008 just before winter.
I change my oil in the SRT8 every 2 years as I just now turned over 7,000 miles on it. The blend has to take this into consideration as you have similar weather as what Cleveland/Akron Ohio area has there in Connecticut.
What a deal Chrysler got. Out of warranty and 7,000 miles on the clock.
Just give me a call and we can discuss a few other things to make sure that we have the exact application blend for your beast!!:rocker:

are you saying you let your oil go for 2 years before you changed it?

Yep! That's what he said. Don't try this at home.......unless you're running Quantum Blue that is.

Trudyc,
Yes, but I designed it for that application so it is perfectly fine. I would never do it using store bought.
As the old statement says....want something done right, do it yourself.
Thanks

how many miles did you put on it in 2 years? that is crazy to me. that must be some unreal oil. i would never think of going 2 years not changing my oil. i will be calling you again on this stuff. is your oil black as coal when you change it?or do you have to dig it out?

Neither. It is generally slightly darker honey color. Just turned over 7,000 miles so 2,333 miles per year.
Yea, give us a call and we can make a really great blend for you as well.
Thanks

Trudyc,
No worries. I always tell people 10K miles or 2 years. If we know the applications, we blend for those applications and then you are covered.
Look forward to talking to you again and we will get a really good blend for your car as well as sending you more ACES IV.:beerchug:
Thanks!

Great, I look forward to talking to you and getting everything dialed in so that we can take care of your beast. Nice car by the way!!
I had a friend of mine that had a 92 T-bird, and he really liked it. He got married and had a family, now he has a mini-van.
Look forward to working with you!
