Dont even bother listing it on ebay. I buy and sells cars everyday for work. Ebay values are a consistent 10 if not 20% lower than dealer auctions. Ebay is a whores market. (Granted I could be called a whore since I bought my last car there). I sell only a select few items on ebay, but for the most part stick to autotrader, local papers or dealer auctions.

Ebay is below wholesale values. I am currently buying and selling at closed dealer auctions higher than ebay pricing.
The one good thing ebay has going for it, is the exposure. You can reach so many more people with ebay than you can with other venues. Its just those ebay customers have set values in mind which are usually lower than FMV.

Dude, 1400 off sticker will be had soon at dealers once the 07s start coming out. I hate to say it but Cars drop in value big time the second you drive them off the lot. Simply put, it is used. You need to consider every day it sits there you will lose value plus you will be making payments. I wish you luck but I dont think you are gonna get 1400 under sticker.

04-07-2006, 11:37 PM

so let me get this straight, one day everyone is paying sticker now there had under sticker or for invoice right. now that mine has been titled its worthless right?37,800 was invoice for mine so i guess it only worth in the 34k range i call BS on that one!
it sounds like this is your first new car purchase. if so, i would have let you know in the beginning that if you were to sell it straight after you bought it, you will take a large loss. ill bet you will end up taking 5-6k hit on it, if not more.

This is so true. The second it is driven off the lot you take a major hit. You can argue with everyone all day if you want. Fact still remains, no one is buying it at that price. You may find some shmuck who doesnt know better, and I hope that is the case. Most on these forums are more saavy than that.
I took my car in yesterday to get the headlight replaced. I was walking around the lot and was looking at the SRT-8's. The sales man came up to me, told me he had 7 in stock, that was jus SRT-8s. I had this thread in mind, so I started hassling with him. The sticker on it was 39,850 (or so). I threw out 34k, and he wanted to go write up the papers. Just an FYI.

first of all this is not an RT. on a SRT Charger your not going to lose 6grand or more no way, and as far as having 7 SRT8 Chargers in stock i call BS! on the 39k car your talking about thats what mine stickered for i have the invoice, it was 37,860 so you an buy them for 3,860 off of invoice which is 6 grand off of sticker dude you have lost your mind and anyone will tell you that believe what you want to believe, but i grant you i wont give it away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't attack SilverRT, he's just trying to help you. The minute you drive your car off the lot -- depending on the make and model -- it can lose as much as 15% of its value. My wife bought her Grand Prix, which was stickered at 23k brand new, for $15.9k. It had 3000 miles on it.
Right now, you have two choices.
1) Sell the car for as much as you can possibly get (which is probably like $35k). Take that money, and buy a $15k car, pocket the other twenty grand and put it in your kid's college fund or in a mutual fund, IRA, whatever.
2) Hold onto the car (since you're going to take a hit anyway) and find a way to make ends meet.
...Why did you buy the car to begin with if you can't afford it?
HemiNut

Heminut,
I think the strategy here is to make you believe your car is worthless so you would be willing to accept a ridiculously low bid. After all this bashing someone can sweep in and offer 34K and you would think it is a good deal. Don't listen to them.
With 65 miles I don't think of the car as used. I would assume you could get 37 - 38K depending on the local market. Your car looks really nice and if it was local I'd consider throwing down a bid even after just buying an R/T. The SRT8 Chargers (not Magnums or 300s) in the San FRancisco Bay Area are often going for 50K. I think some in Sacramento area are getting sticker but that is rare.

youre either lying or totally clueless about new car purchases. i live in the bay area. never have i seen nor heard of a CHSRT8 go for over 50. i bought my charger in the sacramento area. if i wanted, i could have bought an CHSRT8, for below sticker. again, you have no idea what youre talking about.
"With 65 miles I don't think of the car as used." lol, that right there should proof enough that youre totally clueless.

dude, I am sorry you are taking this so personally. It is just a fact of life when it comes to cars. Nobody is going to pay an individual the same as they could buy the car from the dealer brand new. You cannot offer financing or any other incentives a dealer could. You can almost guarantee a person can get a better financing rate from a dealer than they can getting a bank loan to buy a 39k$ car so the savings you are offering doesnt mean anything to a buyer who has to finance. You are only giving a deal to those who could pay cash which are few. And yes, the SRT is no longer selling for over sticker in most markets I have seen. There was an initial surge but it has cooled off. Those who get in first are always gonna pay a little more. Hell, I paid sticker for my Daytona but coulda got a way better deal on it now. I think the people here were just trying to help you. As you know the 07s will be out soon and when that happens you will be lucky to get 32 or more for it. Im just trying to help you so you dont get frustrated and end up stuck with it especially if you cant afford it. Not really sure why you bought it? Did you not know a week or so ago that you couldnt afford it? Maybe this is why you are so defensive. Anyway, I can tell you me and NYT dont agree on anything but we do on this one. You may want to tell potential buyers about the Gas Guzzler tax that I dont think they would have to pay buying it forom you. This may be something they are not aware that they would have to pay it at the dealership. Seriously, Im just trying to help but i dont want to see you in trouble when the new models come out.

If you check car.com for any individual sale of a used SRT8 within 500 miles of DC you will find only one. All three option groups, 1800 miles, asking $38,500. It's still a great car, I agree with kalbc, $37,500 is the most you might get. Good luck.

the 07 thing is not scaring me a bit remember the wait on these cars is long, bottom line it will sell and instead of throwing salt in a wound, try to help a person out when selling not hurt the sale. if you all think this is a bullshi* deal i will pull this thread all i wanted to do was to sell it to someone who had one on order, or has been looking i didnt want a pissing battle. is it going to make you feel good for me to loose 8 grand i sure wouldnt wish it on you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not trying to jump on the bandwagon but used is used. The fact is you get better financing rates on new cars so anyone could buy one from the dealer and even with a higher initial price end up paying less total because of the lower rate. they also wont have the worry of those 65 miles being all drag racing and burnouts ( not saying thats the case but who knows)
I also think the color is a problem most of the ones going for top $ are silver or black. Not many people want the added attention of a red car. I think if you could get 36-37K you would be lucky

You're welcome for posting the pix for you, no thanks needed. As for selling the car, you'll probably be able to find somebody locally to buy it, but if you think you're gonna come onto a message board and sell it for about what you bought it, you're crazy. Most people that come onto message boards know at least a little bit about cars, etc. and aren't gonna pay you as much as they could pay a dealership.

You need to take this offer now. I have been looking for a srt8 for the last couple weeks and I have struck a couple deals through the internet for invoice or $1000 below invoice. I also would prefer black. So I can get a new black one for about $38,000 with good financing, it would be tough for me to buy a used one for the same price.
And these guys are right, I assumed wrong that it is common knowledge, but there are enough of these cars available that just like any other car, as soon as it is titled, it is used, and the value will drop. Mercedes and BMW's hold their value much better than any Dodge, regardless of make, and the same holds true for them. You by an M3, drive it for a week, and you just lost $4-5K. The biggest hit is off the lot. Every day you hold on to it, the more it is going to depreciate.
And these guys also make a good point, when the 07 models come out it is going to be tough to get what you are looking for. Dealers will be making good deals on the 06's and some will want to wait for the 07 anyway. I'd say your best bet might be ebay right now, I've seen a few used charger srt8's go for $38000. Waiting around for the right deal might not be the best bet as your value will continue to drop.
i know its the worst color to most but i think it looks good!!!!!

Another part of this is when you sell the SRT8 the title will also reflect that it was purchased used, and when the buyer goes to sell it, the new buyer can see that he is the third owner,(it is this way in MI) may not bother some people but would bother me unless the deal was fantastic.

I wish you all the best with the car and the new additions to the family. I hope you get an offer you can feel comfortable with. Regardless, if the 07's are coming out soon, the 06's were the first year they were made and I believe there something to be said for that. Considering, eventually this will be a car to collect. I love my SRT and I am sad for you that you have to give yours up.
Guys, cut him some slack, remember what he is giving up. Of course, the twins are great to get in return. Good luck with everything.

Why wouldn't you wanna trade it in if he's offering you 39K? Money is money, it's not like the money from a private party is different than the money from the dealer.
Im sure this guy is going to give him that in trade in value if he gets a new car from them... that is worlds different from offering him 39 for the car. If he cant afford the SRT-8 I am sure he does not want to trade it for a more expensive car.
Heminut, i hope you are wise enough to see that the posts guys like me are making are not negative but rather trying to help you. If you are not careful you WILL get stuck with this car that you cant afford. If I was you i would get in AutoTrader quick or on EBAY. You can try selling it to a dealer but I dont think you will make out well. Hell, take it up to a carmax. They will give you a quote on what they will buy it for.

HemiNut,
Where do you live and what are you trying to replce it with. Since everyone is throwing out bids. I have a 2005 Ford F250 that you can take over payments and I will take over payments on your ride. The truck have less then 13000 on it and was purchased new 03-04-2005

If it was silver, I would be tempted. Waiting for my Silver WRX STI to sell at KBB value and it has a 100k warranty besides. Its priced right, so I know it will sell in time.. but when you are selling private party cars at 20k + you usually end up with a cash buyer.. of which there are to few. Not enouigh people know that you can get a check from the internet or a credit union and just sign it over for a used car to an individual... or a new car actually.

FYI, on the 5 year cost of ownership, they are predicting a 12k hit in the first year. That combines the hit off the lot from MSRP and putting the annual miles on it of course.. and the age, so its not that simple. But its the only thing I have seen to go on other then what the dealer posted above from the auctions.

Heminut, this is all true, get it on autotrader and get it sold. The srt's are not real hot anymore, any of them. I lost 8k putting 4000 miles on my srt10 ram in 8 months, was damn lucky to get what I did for it from what I hear they are getting for them. If you get a bite at anything over 36k I would take it. I can't believe how bad my truck dropped but there is a very small market right now for cars or trucks with 400-500 hp and the gas mileage that goes with it.

Just go to autotrader.com and post a new ad, costs about 50 bucks and you can run the ad till it sells. I feel you will get it sold for decent money, but if you get a serious offer of 36k or thereabouts I would take it.
