Ok, to explain my ignorance first....
Army brat my whole life, no garage.
Joined the Army, no garage.
Got out of the Army, now renting, no garage.
When I FINALLY move to San Antonio and buy a house WITH a garage....
Will my car stay cleaner? I wash (and sometimes wax) on Saturday, and by Wednesday my brilliant black is brilliantly filthy.
Will having a garage help keep it cleaner since it will be put away at night?
Not a real important question, but I'm really curious. Thanks!

Yes, but it will still collect dirt if you leave it parked outside when you are at work all day.
I find that most dirt collects under the license plate.
I usually end up washing my car once a week. I Zaino'd my SXT, and the polish is still holding up strong. I use the Z7 car wash, and the dirt comes right off. Check out my Zaino page.

Gentlemen Jack- You are EXACTLY right. In fact, when I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, the handful of AF folks there were paid extra because the Army housing there was considered 'sub-standard' by AF standards. Of course now that I am out the Army is privatizing all their housing and all of the new housing is super nice, with garages. But you have to admit, the Army is cooler :)
robvia- Thanks for the info! If the garage just allows me to keep it clean enough through the week, I will be happy. I just hate seeing my car dirty just 3 days later.

At least you don't have to park beside a ship with the salty ocean water blowing on your car all day (Go Navy!!!). Yes, the garage will help out quite a bit especially keeping the dew off your Charger that makes like a magnet for dirt as soon as you drive down the road.

Yea, Garages help a LOT. It also helps keep bird poop off of your car.

You got that right, should have joined the Air Force. The new housing they just built on base is anywhere from 1700 to 2200 sq. ft. with two car garages. But anyway back to the subject the garage helps out alot bring it in in out of the elements get you a car duster for just a quick cleaning when it gets dusty.

So a garage helps control the dew, dust, dirt, and bird poop? Sounds good to me!
I work at Quantico now, and these Marines here have some SWEET new houses... open floor plans, garages, fenced yards, man. The Army needs to play some serious catch-up with their housing.

A garage is a must for any nice vehicle. When I bought my 98 GMC Z-71 pickup it lived in a garage for the first 3 years of its life and it looked brand new the whole time. We moved, had no garage for the next 3+ years and it took a beating just from being outside in the snow/rain, etc. If I didn't have a garage now, I never would have bought my Charger. My $.02

He11 yea the Army is cooler. I was in from 1987-1996. Were you an Engineer? I was.
Basic at Ft Leonard Wood.... Hated those damn rocks.
Back on topic.... Garage will greatly reduce dust. Get a car cover to help even more.

The only reason I didn't "Go Army" is because my recruiter called me at 7am on a Sunday! That's just rude. The AF is privatizing housing on this side, too. Hasn't hit us HERE like it has at most bases, but it will. Hopefully it won't affect me. I just put in for orders and will probably buy a house at my next duty station - with a garage. Gotta keep my baby looking good! Well that, and my wife gets pissed if I bring all my toys in the house. "Too much grease," she says. Whatever the hell that means.

Darned straight the Army's cooler :) I was in from 89 to 03. Never had a garage once. And oh yeah I drooled over the base housing for the Airforce. Better food too. Still wouldnt have changed joining the Army though. Back to the topic at hand. I wouldnt have bought my SRT8 if I didnt have a gargage ok well its in the barn right next to my bass boat :)
Thanks to you and all of you for your service.

So a quick thundestorm is passing through with a chance of hail... I'm once again reminded why I want a garage so badly....
Keep your fingers crossed that Charlotte makes it through unscathed...

http://bestsmileys.com/army/7.gif Navy Bro here, and yes a garage is a good thing. I keep my show bike in mine, unfortunatly I have no room for my R/T and that sux, so I keep her under a cover at night. but unlike Stretch. I'm at a Naval AIR Station and I do not have to worry about salt spray. Oh! By the Way, GO NAVY!!!!!! I have 7 month til retirement and I'll have my 20. Man! Doesn't even seem like it's been that long.

20 years, that's awesome. Congrats.
I was medically discharged well before I was ready to go (trying to get cleared by the VA so I can get back in).
But about that cover, are those car covers safe? I've always heard bad/scary things about them, but after last night, I'm seriously considering one.
It doesn't scratch your paint up or anything, does it?

lambo,
USAF retired (26 years). I've had black/dark colored cars for over 25 years now. The garage is your friend. If I can keep them out of the rain, I can go months without having to wash. Just put a good wax job (there are many good products), get a California Duster and/or Kozak dust rag, a spray bottle of Simoniz Instant One Step Spray Polish, or Mother's Showtime Instant Detailer, and some good lint free detailing towels. Then you're in business. I also do spot washes if it's not too dirty...i.e getting splashed by some idiot, etc. Most importantly, if a bird does his thing on your ride, get it off ASAP. I always carry a couple rags and some spray cleaner just for this. One time I didn't get it off on time and it slightly etched the paint...bummer.
Do they still have the Eighth and I ceremonies at Marine Headquarters?? Saw it back in the 80's. Something to behold. Congrats. on you service to OUR COUNTRY, and GOD BLESS you and all those who served and are serving.

A garage helps a lot. No sun, no dirt, no rain, no morning condensation, no birds.
