I agree with REB.

Of course, losing all the POHO's will mean a loss in revenue.
Did GM just agree with me? SEE! We CAN all just get along!!!!

We are growing at a very fast pace here which is excellent, the larger the community the better we can help each other. So, in order to keep this tremendous growth rate, we are asking for suggestions and your thoughts on how we can improve the site. So, drop us a line with your suggestions, thoughts, etc. so we can make this a better place!
Add a forum to hold all the official/registry threads, so at least they would all be in one spot since the search function is spotty at best, especially when you want to search for more than one word.

To the New Posts (http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew), add a thread started date/time somewhere, similar to the Last Post column, so that way people know it is a 2 year old thread before they even read it, let alone reply to it.

I didn't read this thread so I apologize in advance if it was already suggested (and also if there is already a way to do it that I don't know about, in which case if someone could tell me that would be great). Anyway, you know that link that says "view first unread" at the beginning of a thread? It would be great if that link was available on the subscribed threads page so I could instantly jump to it in less time. I know it's not a huge time saver, but it would be nice, especially when I'm at work and there are a bunch of people hogging my bandwidth with their online music. Come to think of it, I guess I could just reprogram the smart-switch to give my computer first priority, lol.

theres a few topics that i'm not sure where to put sometimes when i have a question dealing with it.... mainly "MAINTAINENCE"....
i recently posted a topic dealing with the drain plug for the rear differential, but the only place i posted it was the performance forum. for me it kinda felt odd going there being that most are talking about superchargers, intakes, exhaust, etc...
the charger problems/assistance forum was my other thought, but i really wasnt or am not having rear differential problems.
or would it be more ideal to just put something of that nature in the general charger forum?
is there a chance for a general maintainence forum being implemented? or where would you all suggest tech questions like that be placed? like if you need the socket size or a certain tool or tool size for something or even how to's of general maint....

I was thinking that since the General section has so many stickies, is it possible to move some of them to more relevant sections to free up some space and have more threads on the first page?
i.e.
Press Links Only!!! thread to here (Dodge Charger News)
Beginners Guide to Cheap/Free Mods thread to New Member Introduction section
Put Yourself On the Map thread to New Member Introduction section
And merge the search function thread in the General area w/ the one Umbra started in the NEw Member Intro section.

Not gonna happen, wicked. This isnt a democracy, really. I can say that how a preson gets along with members is a factor in the choice, but only one factor.
As for the ones that arent around, those are usually either folks who are available for "surging" for SRT chats, etc, or Ekools personal people who help him with almost all his boards. I'm a supermod on both the 300C and Caliber forums for the former reason.

I honestly think it would be a good addition.
There are likely a lot of forum members that do not modify their Chargers frequently (if at all) but I would guess that most of us clean/detail our cars at least weekly (if not; more often) and a centralized repository of threads devoted to keeping our Chargers looking great would be beneficial.
Yes, you're correct; the addition of such a forum may result in the proliferation of morons posting threads asking silly questions, but those morons would do so regardless if we had this forum or not, IMHO.
But for those of use that can read, learn and search, it would make life easier.

There might be some redundant posts in there if it happens but I think the useful info would outweigh it by a mile. Also would give users a venue to review related products that are not sold by our vendors and post truly unbiased opinions. Its not just about how to do it but how to do it more efficiently.Tips that save members time is more time members can be on here viewing vendors and sponsors ads and contributing to other areas of the forum.

I know i'm gonna get zapped for this but i'm not trying to be mean forum gods. . .
The whole purpose of these forums is to advertise for their vendors. Its not about creating a enviroment for the world to goof off on. All that stuff does is take up space and clutter things and really doesnt sell any products. (dont think i'm hating i want one too). Anyway, the only reason the forum is here is because sponsors fund it to advertise and push their products. Places like chat rooms dont benefit the forum or vendors so it'll most likely not happen, i dont think. its not like forums are made with the purpose of making a happy enviroment for people to hang out . If stuff isnt getting bought and sold , funding will stop and the forum would be bye bye. With them condinsing as much as they have been lately i cant see them ever adding a bs only section.

maybe. just as possible that they would go to other sites or stay solely in the chat room though too.
Think about it man, if they are cracking down so much on space that they had to close multiple hundreds of chat related threads why would they go and reintroduce the chat thing again? Seems like a double edged sword

We could start our own irc based chat it would not have to be a java based chat on the site. so long as we were allowed to promote it a little here. Im sure there are others here that would be willing to maintain it as well. Ive been a net and server admin on several irc servers in the past and think a chat would be a great thing. It would also give their vendors a live forum to answer questions and scroll ads for product as well as give tech support for installing items.

Prevent any new thread creations in the "For Sale" forums until a member has X many posts (maybe 20?) Any way to have an online parts database? Not in the forums....but have something separate...like a master parts listing for the different levels? Perhaps have some sort of vehicle diagrams where various parts go and how they fit together.
Thanks

I think it is a good idea to know where our cars are at and if they end up in the wrecking yard at least we might have an inside loop on parts for members on here that need something.

Hello, I am new and was wondering if we could get a chat room, or a shoutbox like some of the other websites that I belong to. Insanemustangs has one and mustangmafia had one until it got hacked. I would love to talk to people online that I have questions and some people are actually close to me and would love to meet. Also if there is anyway you can have a box that says who is online all the time would be great. Other than that the site is AWESOME.

Turn off the ability to re-post pics in a Quoted reply.
Nothing is more annoying then someone posting their new mod with 10 pictures, and then having 20 replies to it and the pictures being reposted over and over again in the thread because they clicked on "QUOTE" instead of "REPLY"

Love the site however I think the 60 seconds in between searches is overkill. I know it is a lot more cost effective with bandwidth however bringing it down to 30 would be a good compromise and I'm sure will make a ton of people happy... Just my 2 cents though...

I don;t like to subscribe to every thread I post in, but it would be nice to know if someone replied directly to something I have posted, regardless of whether or not I was subscribed to the thread. Ocassionally I have found posts directed to me days or weeks later...

The only way I check is search for my username. It will give you a list of threads in chronological order (newest first) in which someone has quoted you.
It doesn't tell you where they have quoted you, however. For instance, if I was quoted in a 50 page thread the thread would come up as a search result. I would have to manually search through each page to find where someone actually quoted me.
some of my suggestions:
1) It would be nice if there was a "quoted me" search that jumps straight to the thread and page we were quoted on.
2) Allow a higher number of posts per page...at least more than 40 (which is the max, I believe)
3) as others have requested, reduce the time between searches to something like 20-30 seconds.
The only way I check is search for my username. .
But I sign my name at the end of every post, so when I search I get all my own posts. LOL.
For you, try checking the "show results as posts". The default is to shwo threads, but you can change in in the advance search window to list the individual posts instead of just the threads.
It's at the bottom on the left hand side of the advanced search window.

If you see a thread that is in the wrong place, just shoot one of us a PM and we'll take a look at it. Just like in any community, members can do your part by reporting problems instead of just hoping someone catches it. Seriously though. When searching if I am trying to find a thread I know is here and I don't match it up exactly it is impossible to find. Maybe just a general word search for thread titles. Not what's inside the thread. Cause it comes up with all this random stuff.
Anyone else have that or am I just retarded when it comes to using the search function?

It's not just you.
But sometimes people have threads called "I have a quick question." Little would the search engine know that it contained an awesome thread on headers installation.
But if you search for the word exhaust you might get the joke thread to show up otherwise.
An argument can be made for both sides. I agree with you though.

Yeah I see what you mean.. I just find myself spending a lot of time searching, then I end up posting my own thread (oops) because I know it's faster if I post my own than trying to find it on my own.

Sometimes there's a ton of info at the beginning of the thread and it seems to disappear too quick sometimes.

You could set it up so that if your the OP you could edit the title of a thread.
This is very helpful in the for sale section. That way when something is sold. The op can go in and change the title to "Item/Car sold, mod please Delete"
It makes it much faster than haveing a 5 page thread and reading on page 3 the car was sold.
It can also be handy if you edited the content and add pics other were adking for.

I didn't read through all 42 pages, so this may have been suggested, but......
On another car forum I am active on in a few of the model specific forums, they got a few of the "smarter dudes" to write up pretty good newb FAQs and made them stickies in the proper places. For example there would be one in the V6 forum, the R/T forum, and the SRT 8 forum. These FAQs covered all the usually newb questions like best performance mods, any differences between model years, trim levels, etc. Also they listed stuff like factory HP and TRQUE specs, you get the idea. It cuts down on the same questions being asked all the time and people telling others to use the search function all the time.
