How do you keep wax off the decals?

How do you do it? I was thinking about masking them off, but I wondered if the tape residue would be worse than the wax. I did read that you can use a mix of rubbing alcohol and water to clean the decals.

DON'T WAX THE DECALS. It's the easiest way to keep wax off....

zaino is fine on the decals - in fact they look better after using zaino! they are still flat black but they just look better. and then have some protection on them.
