I'm new to the Sacramento area and am looking for a good place to take my car to get the windows tinted. Anyone here know a good place to go?

They're honestly all fine. Just pull out the yellowpages and pick the one that is closest and does it the cheapest. Not that big of a deal. Good luck.

I got mine done at Tint Pro's in Elk Grove. Friendly guy, and used a great tint. He has a shop in both Elk Grove and Roseville that I know of. He does all the tinting for the Dodge dealerships in Elk Grove and Roseville.

Search the threads about tint before you pick a place. The different material used for the tint could impact your AM radio reception. I didn't know that when I got mine tinted. Tint looks great but thank God I don't listen to AM much. Occasional King game is all. My AM sucks now, big time.

I got Cermaic Tint so it does not interfer with my AM reception. I don't have any trouble with mine and I listen to Cost to Coast AM w/ Art Bell ALL THE TIME!

How long does it usually take to have the windows tinted? I don't mind making the drive to get it done right. Just wondering if it's only a couple hours I can then hang out in the area during the wait.

A couple of hours to do a good job.
The tint will need to cure - so, no using the windows for a few days, depending on climate. I got mine done in the winter, so waited at least a week (about 10 days to be sure) before I opened them. Good thing for the sunroof, at least I could crack that as needed.

I asked around at work for recommended places for tint and a driver really recommended Rocky Mountain Windowtint in Livermore.
On his 911 it cost him $300 to tint his windows.
I've seen other local forums recommending this place as well. Anyone else been there?

I've never been there but I have several recommendations for them as well. I'll be getting mine done there.

"does it the cheapest. Not that big of a deal."
I would caution against this. There are significant differences in window film. I am in Arizona and did commercial/residential and automotive tinting for years, and I still tint cars on the side. The best thing to do is shop around, referrals are one of the best ways to get info on a shop for sure. All major manufactures offer some type of warranty so ask about that when you start talking to tinters.
You have a lot of options such as ceramics, as were previously mentioned. There are full metal films (usually high reflection), purely dyed (color added to adhesive or sprayed onto one of the layers) and hybred films (part metal part dyed with minimal reflection).
Manufacture warranties that you may want include fade and scratch resistance (none are scratch proof). Also ask the shops warranty regarding installation. When you choose a shop inspect the car with the installer before and after the job. Ask questions about installation techniques, especially as it pertains to preping the rear glass on these cars. And the fact that there is a lot of water/soap solution used to apply the tint. Ask if you can stick around and watch (might not let you for insurance).
I dealt with hundreds of customers that received a bad or half a$$ tint job that the company was no where to be found later.
Additionally, if you can take the time you can call manufactures and ask for a shop in your area. (Solar Gard, Llumar, Madico are a few of the larger makers). Good luck and remember it's your car.
