View Full Version : Protecting your Rack and Pinion

Many people have been calling us and talking about the fact they want to protect their investment in their Charger or LX car.
One of the things that we have been suggesting is protecting your Rack and Pinion against internal wear and keeping the seals from getting hard and cracking which of course causes leaks.
Remember that the rack and pinion system is a hydraulic system that gets very hot especially if you are road racing or doing a lot of turns.
We developed a QuantumBlue Steering System Catalyst that can be added to any powersteering system that will lubricate the teflon seal rings in the spool valve and keep them from wearing the aluminum housing.
Also the catalyst will condition the seals and help them handle much higher temperatures while preventing them from turning hard and cracking.
Several of our customers while purchasing the ACES IV and the QuantumBlue oils also opted for a bottle of the QB Steering System Catalyst.
Several have called us back and mentioned how well it works and how quiet the system is. One customer said his Charger R/T was easier to park and was smoother and more responsive.
Some of you may have experienced a steering rack problem in the past. The symptom is often referred to as "morning sickness". As stated earlier, it is caused by Teflon sealing rings on the spool valve wearing grooves in the aluminum housing (which is softer than the teflon) of the rack and pinion resulting in an internal bypass of pressure. This occurs when the vehicle is cold and has been sitting for several hours.
Once the housing warms up, the metal will expand and reduce the pressure loss. When the rack and pinion exhibits this behavior it must be replaced.
The QB Steering System Catalyst comes in a 6 oz bottle and will treat 3 steering systems as you only need 2 oz added to any rack and pinion or recirculating ball steering system. The 6 oz bottle is 12.99 each.
Preventing an expensive rack repair or replacement will ensure you have more money to spend on the mods you want instead of a repair or replacement you dont.
Thanks
Brian

Yes. Protects the seals, lubricates internal bushings, protects the housing from scrubbing and lubricates the steering pump as well.
Just 2 oz, no need to drain or change the fluid. Best protection possible to save an $800+ repair.
Thanks

I just ordered some of this with my latest order of BND lubes. Since my PS pump was replaced about 3k miles ago under warranty due to problems with a growl and low pressure. I will be adding this to prevent problems in the future that could include out of pocket expenses that would more than pay for this additive.

BND will not pick up the cost of any repairs on Warraninny denied clams for the ruck and pump if the dealer finds non chrysler approved additives in the system?

So B&D will pick up the cost of any repairs on Warrany denied claims for the rack and pujmp if the dealer finds non chrysler approved additives in the system?
From my experience in dealing with my dealer and warranty repairs that's just NOT gonna happen. Even if they wanted to, I just can't imagine Chrysler sending out fluids for expensive chemical analysis on each and every part that utilizes lubricants to see if you are using non chrysler approved additives. (Wouldn't they deny any engine related claims where customers use any oil that didn't come out of a MOPAR can if this were true?)
Not only that, but it is my understanding that this additive meets and exceeds any manufacturers requirements for use in their PS systems.
Chrysler will also cover the repair you will eventually need to your steering components when you DON'T use this additive after your seals harden and self destruct or any of the other inherent problems well documented with the LX steering system that this additive prevents.
And No, I don't work for BND or receive any compensation for what I say about their products. Bottom line is that I have experienced great results with other BND products I have used so far. results that I can document and measure via datalogging on my predator.
If you feel this won't help your car.... don't use it, but why you would assume it would void your warranty is beyond me. My warranty claim experiences have not given me any indication at all that my dealer is just looking for reasons NOT to cover me under warranty (and my car has many mods on it) to the extent that I recently took it in for an axle seal leak on my differential - a diff that was NOT the original but had been replaced with an SRT8 unit and the dealer replaced both axle seals UNDER WARRANTY without saying one word to me about the non stock modification to my diff.
YMMV

I work at a dealer and let me tell you, everytime i do a repair i do a system analysis on all the fluids in the vehicle to make sure the customer hasnt added anything. i also taste everything and do a ph balance on everything to make absolutely sure there is no moisture or additives :notallthere:
Oh wait, no, that would be stupid and i dont know a single tech on earth that would do that nor do dealerships have the equipment to do so.
They also dont analyze your oil for pennzoil particles if you come in for a tick. They dont analyze your fuel to make sure you use the right brand when you come in for a stuck injector. We dont analyze coolant acidity levels when you come in for a leaking water pump.
Bnd will warranty your rack the same as pennzoil will warranty your motor, amoco will warranty your fuel pump, prestone will warranty your radiator, and sylvania will warranty your electrical circuits. :outofcloset:
For everyone else that realizes you dont have to use the mopar brand lubricants to stay under warranty, you get to buy the products and ignore the people that do nothing but come on and complain at every vendor due to boredom and lack of real life friends

Deleted quoted message - Part Deux
You go Brian. That is exactly right. I, by the way, am very happy with my new fluids. My wife was the first driver and I did not tell her that I was changing to a new custom oil. As far as she was concerned, she came by the shop today and I did an oil change on the car because it was due. On her way home, about an hour later, she called me and asked what I did to the car. She said it was running smoother than before and seemed to have more power. I changed to Quantum Blue 7.5W23 engine oil, added ACES IV and also the power steering additive. When an oil adds power it obviously reduces friction and that in turn reduces wear. Thanks for your product Brian.

Nate,
Glad to hear your wife noticed the difference. The combination of the ACES IV and the QB 7.5w23 really releases power to the wheels that normally is used to overcome friction. This is what she is now experiencing.
Thanks for the kind words.
Regards,
Brian

Darnice,
I just want you to know that I don't take that comment about lemmings lightly. The decision to use BND products in my Daytona came from many hours of research on Brian's products. I didn't just buy this stuff blindly because he said it was good, I bought it because there have been many people who have used his product and have had great results BECAUSE they use his products. I, for one, experienced the difference that ACES IV and Quantum Blue have produced in my Daytona. My car runs smoother than it ever did on Mobil1, which I have used since my first oil change. ACES? Yeah, it gave me better mileage in my Intrepid, and I was able to use it with 89 octane gas on a 93 Predator tune in the Daytona. Still not convinced? That's ok.
Why bash those who use it and why bash on the vendor? Continue using your so called better products that will put BND to shame... Remember, if you're not running with the 'lemmings' then you are being left behind.

X2!
I believe Brian nailed it on the head when he said she sounds angry and especially on the part about having a closed mind. I too researched the product before I bought it and didn't just take Brian's word for it. I don't use snake oil, and never fell for the Slick50 stuff or anything like it. I don't just "think my car sounds better" I have datalogged extensively and can see the results in black and white with lower octane fuel that would cause all kinds of KR if used without Aces IV with the tune I am running.
I read back thru some of Darnices posts and she pretty much has the same superior I know more than you attitude in pretty much all the posts I have read. Reading her posts I am reminded of something I used to tell my kids when they were growing up - "The only person who cannot learn anything from anyone is the person who already knows everything".
Yeah, her name calling about anyone who uses these products was offensive, but it doesn't really bother me, it just makes me feel pity for someone so arrogant, angry and bitter about things... Life's just too short for that.
