I had the dealer activate the day time running lights (DRL) and now I notice that the bulbs are getting fogged/burnt looking. Is this because they run at a lower voltage? Should I be using a different blub? Has anyone else seen this?

Whatza Blub???

Ah, I see, I'm supposed to read that work backwards!

That's a tricky way of saying bulb....making us all read backwards!

I'm not sure, but I certainly find it concerning.

Why would they run at a different voltage during the day as opposed to night. You can test it out with a $10 radio shack multimeter.

Why would they discolor at a LOWER voltage? I honestly never heard of that.

I wondered the same thing. Why would they run at a different voltage, but they do. I have not checked it with a multimeter yet but everything that I've read says they run at 8 volts during the day. At night time they are bright like any other head lights but during the day you can see that they are dim. As far as why they would discolor with a lower voltage, your guess is as good as mine. That is why I'm asking the question.

As compared to what? Maybe thats what happens to bulbs regardless of the voltage.

Underdriving certain types of bulbs cause discoloration and kill bulb life. Hope that isn't the case here.

I wonder if I cover the light sensor, my car will always think it's night and turn on my lights.

Going to look into this. Probably cheaper to take this route anyways and it shouldn't have low voltage issues.

When you have a active DRL system it is designed to turn ON the Headlights at lower Voltage durning the Day and apply FULL Voltage at Night( Off a Light Sensor ). I have added DRL to my Charger ( GO-MAN-GO #748 ) for Safety. While I have only had them in place for 4 months I have not noticed any bulb Problems.

I also had them activate my DRL for safety reasons, plus I get a break on my insurance for having them. I guess it might be normal for the bulbs to look this way. I will keep an eye on them and let everyone know.
