Extremely DIM RER Display?!

So I started up the car today and it looked like the display on my RER unit wasn't displaying anything. Everything worked fine otherwise (even the touchscreen, i thought that was odd). So I take a closer look at it and take a flashlight to the display and it's actually on and displaying...just really really dim. I've tried changing the display settings (Day, Auto, Night) but no luck.

Any ideas on what would cause that? I thought maybe the cold, but it wasnt that cold lastnight...I've had colder nights with that RER unit installed.

It's fairly new install, ordered off ebay less than a month ago.
Any ideas, lemme know.

Just re-checked on it (I'm at work) and it's back to normal operation.

Im guessing it was the cold?

You probably won't like this news but here goes:

The "dim" display was caused by the back light not coming on (which is a cold cathode tube, i.e. florescent light), hopefully it was a software glitch.

If it wasn't a glitch this could be indicative of you back light going out which will require replacing [warranty?] the entire unit.
