Garmin Nuvi 255W Floor Mount
So I’ve seen a lot of other people put up threads with their mods and add ins, so I thought I’d throw up mine. As far as mods go, this wasn’t very difficult or overly creative. But it was a quick and simply solution that works very well.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS that came with the windscreen suction cup mount. However with the angle of the windscreen, the only real place to mount the unit was high on the glass, right beside the A pillar. Not a horrible location, but you really can’t charge the unit with it in that location, not to mention it is in perfect view for anybody walking past who might want to steal it. Even if you remove it every time you leave the car, the suction cup or the mark it leaves will tip off anyone looking to break into you car. You could also use the disk with two side tape to mount the unit in different spots, but again IMO it doesn’t look as good as it can.
I bought a floor mount from mountguys.com.

It took some experimenting with different set ups, but overall it was very easy, and having done it once, would take less then 10 minutes to do again.
I removed the plastic bezel on the base of the passenger seat on the left side. You don’t have to remove the piece completely, just enough to get your socket on to the seat bolt. Loosen off the bolt so you can slip the U bracket that comes with the mount behind the bolt. Keep the bracket angled as much as you can to the right. Tighten the seat bolt. With the two screws provided, line up the long round bar with the proper holes. Tighten down. The flexible tube should be connected before this as I found it hard to attach the tube and tighten it once the base was in place. Clip the plastic bezel back in place over the mount. Adjust the flexible tube as you see fit to put in desired location. Clip the GPS unit into location. Connect power cable to unit. With chicken straps, secure cable to flexible tube down to floor. Run cable in between passenger seat and up into centre console and plug into power supply.
Again, noting Earth shattering. But simple, easy, affordable and zero damage/modification to the vehicle. And because of location, both driver and passenger have easy access to the unit.
Now, I should mention I have tinted windows and during the summer put in a reflective screen in my front window if the vehicle is going to be sitting outside for a bit. But, if you are concerned about someone looking in and seeing the unit, throw a baseball cap over the GPS and the shifter, and no one will be the wiser.
