Cleaning Filter, how often?

Lately I only went about 3-4 months and my k&n cai filter has lost most of its red oil color to it. So I cleaned it. is 3-4 months normal? wasnt so much dirty just like the oil evaporated quicker here in florida's heat? I beleive the first cleaning I went about 10-12 months.. any info?

Manufacturer typically indicates to clean it when it's dirty or 50,000-100,000 miles. (Yeah, that's what they all say.)

The color is just a dye they put in the oil to make it all purty-like. Most of the dyes are somewhat sensitive to sunlight so propping your hood at M&G's will cause them to fade faster.

I tend to clean mine every 10k or so because I, too, like the nice color from fresh oil. Over cleaning your filter will likely cause it to wear out faster because the fabric isn't designed to be cleaned a whole lot.
