View Full Version : Installed OEM Nav and now part of HVAC lights are not working

I bought an OEM Nav REC radio off eBay and installed it tonight .... my only surprise was to find that part of the left side of the heat/AC control head lighting was dead, then I took the bezel off, re-installed it and now part of the right side is out, along with the passenger seat heated seat switch light.

The heated seat switch lights that tell you how high you have it set are still working, but the backlight that normally lights up the switch is now dead.

Same for the right half of the light behind the right round knob.

Is this something that can be fixed without replacing the control head and the ashtray/switch assembly ?

Sucks to be happy about getting Nav but to be bummed out about 2 problems popping up

If you disconnect the REC are the lights still out? Are the same ones out each time? It sure sounds like a bad connection more than anything else.

Yup, take the bezel back off and recheck the AC control harness plug

Already done that about 4 times ... this morning I took it apart and tapped the hell out of it too and got nothing ...

That sucks. I would have for sure said a connection also. You think you could have blown a fuse?

I highly doubt it .... if a fuse was happy (blown :D ), then the whole thing wouldn't even turn on ...

According to the pic below, it's just a damn bulb ...

Got the pic from another thread on here somewhere ... :)

Buy 2 bulbs. Every time I take something apart to replace just 1 bulb, a week or so later the other one burns out.

Yeah ... the left side outer bulb originally wasn't lighting up when I put it back in, and then I took the bezel out again, checked connections (were tight), put it back in and the right bulb was out, but this one never came back on, like its left side brother ...

So I need 2 anyway.

But,

I have Ted from ALLUSA (vendor on here) looking into getting me a better price on the whole thing ... plus, I apparently made a couple scratches on the ashtray assembly, so even though I ordered a separate switch today, I think that I'm gonna end up ordering a complete ashtray/switches assembly too ...

and how can we replace that bulbs??? I donīt have the tools and the knowledge about reparing this kind of stuff :(

I donīt know if u remember, but I have problems with my a/c lights... started with 1 bulb, and today was off 90% !!!

change all bulbs and the green plate $400 dlls
change all the a/c unit $120 dlls (new, dealer... and I donīt know if gonna work because has the silver rings = newer model).

Look, only works 1 bulb :( looks ugly :(

That sucks Gabe- sorry to hear of the trouble-
Since you are embarking on the bulb change though- are you considering changing the color?

I thought about it but it is WAY too much work.. that's why I stuck with Green Cathodes outside to match the Green inside- LOL
