How do I drain the oil for the Vortech Supercharger? I need to change the oil, but the instructions from vortech don't tell you how. Someone please help me out...a pic would be great if possible. Thanks in advance
is it a self contained or a tapped pan unit with a feed line? im pretty sure vortechs = yours, is an oil pan tapped therefore a regular oil change will take of it all. you see, it sends fresh oil from teh pan to the Scharger and vice versa so when you drain your pan, you also drain your charger.
on a side note, you should look into one of those cool and handy flip drain plugs so you can just flip it open and drain it out without using a socket to remove plug.. they are only like 15bucks and saves tons of time especially if you do your own maintenance. dont even have to jack the car up to drain.. just slide under and flip it open... and i know what your thinking.. it can open up itself if some road debris hits it and then it will drain as you drive.. no in fact it wont, its pretty safe

Its self contained.
then you have to remove it or just pump it out.. you can use like sprayer nozzle from a windex or similar bottle if needed. i think you only need a few ounces of that stinky stuff for self contained.. i have always used line fed in our cars.
edit---look for an allen headed bolt--thats the drain
here, this may help you with your self contained.. and btw i dont think vortech makes a self contained SC, just a heads up.. i think you have a feed line
anyway heres a helpful link to drain and change. here they use a syringe instead of a sprayer nozzle and cup to hold old oil.

WRONG INFO...
The vortech V3 supercharger is a self contained unit. If you look on the top of the supercharger it is 2 gold screws with allen wrench fittings. The one on the right is the dip stick....The drain plug is on the bottom of the blower..its a brass fitting with a drain hose attached..Mines did not have a hose on it. You can can do this without removing the blower but it is easier if you take it out the car...
Call vortech for replacment oil...its 30 bucks for a pack of 3.

Ah, got it, Thanks alot! That is what I needed. It's a braided silver line on the bottom of the blower, I couldn't see it from the top because it was zip tied to another hose, but when I took off the plastic protector under the car, I was able to see the line and get a set of wire cutters in there and cut the tie. The hose was long enough that I could drain it very easily from there, re-ziptied it to the other hose, refill with some vortech cherry syrup, and I was all set. Thanks guys!

Vortech used to only have SC that had a line to your engines oil, they were kind of known for not having self contained units, but they do have self contained units now...like mine. Believe me, you are not anywhere near the first person to assume it was not self contained and I didn't know what I was talking about. Thanks for your help, much appreciated. :D

[edited by admin] again, was just trying to be helpful.. and not to many folks here even know the logistics of forced induction anyway so i thought i would fill you in on the questions you asked since the room was empty and unanswered. that other guy sounded like he was tryin to be and azzhat and throw me under the bus like i was totally wrong, atleast thats how it sounded and the way i read it. i was just wrong about vortech not making a self contained, right? or was i wrong about somethign else as well?

Glad to hear you got it worked out!
And it looks like this fantastic Charger of yours went from one great owner to another great one. Glad to see you are taking care of it and remaining active on the boards!

LOL, thank God it's fool proof, I used the Vortech oil which is already portioned to the right amount in one bottle, so basically just dumped it in and level was perfect. :rocker:

I just got it out of storage yesterday, I had to put it away until the weather got nice, but it is amazing, way too much fun!! I really need to learn how to launch without smokin the tires though because I can't gun it until about 30MPH without losing the rear end.
