Looking to redo my engine cover. Anybody have any suggestions on the type of paint I should use?

When I paint mine this summer I am going to try that Krylon fusion spray paint for plastics. It is suppose to stay flexable, but I don't know what it can take for heat.

Any of you guys hear about Dupli-Color? What are they like?

How hot can the engine cover get, roughly? Any ideas?

Duplicolor makes the caliper paint kit that most people here have used including myself. Very good paint product for the calipers. I'm not sure as to the rest of their products.

It says they also have Engine Enamel paint, can withstand up to 500 degrees, as well as a High Heat paint that can withstand up to 1200 degrees, I am assuming it's good, but just wanted everyone's opinion.

CDN Daytona 23, I maybe able to help…I just completed my painting (attached Photo). I must give credit to 1BadBanana who sent me a photo of his and I liked what he did. However I am a die hard do it yourselfer and that is what I did. Black I used Dupli-color Gloss Black # DE1613 (12oz. for about 5 dollars). I also used Dupli-color DAYTONA YELLOW # DE1642 same size and price. Both are high temperature paint but it is not necessary. When you take the cover off and remover the Orange cover plate (9 coarse nuts) you will see foam under the Orange plate that would be a heat problem, therefore in the factory wisdom there must NOT be much damageable heat at this location.

The Dupli-color DAYTONA YELLOW # DE1642 looked good but did NOT quite match the car color. I purchased from my local Dodge Dealer two spray cans of touch up paint for about 8 dollars each. This paint, part number MOPAR SOLAR YELLOW- VYH, I sprayed over the Dupli-color yellow and I thing it turned out fine. Lots of tape masking and some fine brush free hand on the 5.7 L V-8 but it only cost about 30 dollars. If you do this TAKE YOUR TIME! Hope this helps.

techman32,
Great job. That engine cover is sweet. Did you use your existing cover or did you buy a new one?

I used the stock engine cover that came on the car. I figured if I srewed it up I could order a NEW one then.

You can use regular automotive paint... But prep work is most important, adhesion promoters must be used and if you take your time you can paint and create anything you want.
